and the 18 million on sakho'shit ... and we know illorisorous will be shit too ... at least we got ming and toure!

Signings like Ilori and Alberto are always exciting imo. Tomorrows talent we hope.

Aspas is another potential shrewd signing. Not a major fee and with luck a sound investment.

I have no problem with this what baffles me greatly however is how we have seemingly completely overlooked the fact we lack creativity in midfield. We simply doesn't have a balanced enough squad to spend close to £20M on development players and cheeky bets alone.

I think it is a massive mistake no matter how good Ilori, Alberto and Aspas turns out. Hope it won't harm us too much before Jan where this must be assessed promptly imo.

Wasn't it more like £14.5m? Not that it matters like. Aspas annoyed the shit out of me last night, he's lazy. Alberto hasn't exactly had a chance yet.

Aspas needs 6 months in the gym. His lack of strength is embarrassing.

Aspas, yes. Alberto still hasn't been given a chance.

In fairness, it's still very early days for Aspas too.

He should be nowhere near first team for the time being though.

Moses, Sterling and Ibe should all be ahead of him imo.

Uh oh I think this is about to turn into another Bramble thread.

Nope, let's be honest, I think we've already given it long enough to decide conclusively it's shit!

Aspas, Alberto ... whoever. Aspas was shite yesterday but he hasn't been in every match. Seriously ... after just 4 matches ? FFS.

Make up your mind. Are we going to win the league, or do we need to gut half the roster and the front office?

I hate to do this, but Ericson looks like he cost £25M more than Aspas, but he actually only cost £5M more. Definitely signed the wrong player there.

The time being invested in them whilst they are shit and weak is not going to waste. You can see that they will both improve. Then next year when we have champions league games to deal with, Aspas and Alberto will help the squad more than a completely new signing.

dont be afraid to state the truth.

Yeah but it's like four games in. Now, I do realise that you're renowned for being a bit of an impatient, ultra critical poster, but they have time to come good. People said the same with other players like Henderson, perseverance & patience eventually paid off, so sitting here four games in and being all smug about it and final in your damnation of the player is a bit premature.

He does look shit though.

the original question was whether we should have spent the 13m on one good player and not whether either player was good or not. I am not dismissing either.

impatient, ultra critical? moi? think you got me confused with someone else. I have in the past defended aspas and likened him to potentially being like David Villa (how wrong I seem to be), so let's not get carried away.

What fucked me off most last night was he looked out of his depth, but he was doing nothing to help the team, he stood in the defensive positions but did no closing, no hassling. Compare that to someone like Sturridge coming on late and chasing down everything (as he did last season), that's what he should have been doing. It's forgivable having a slow start, it's insulting coming on and looking disinterested.

Yes. Personally I thought he looked quite promising in the pre-season games and then the Stoke game, but last night he was utterly bewildering to watch.

Yes, great thread. 4 games in to the season we decide they arent good enough. Whatever happened to a bit of patience.
Aspas hasnt been good enough after a pretty good game against Stoke. Yesterday he was playing in a position he shouldnt be in. Get him on the wing or as a striker. Not an excuse mind but let them at least get a chance to adapt.

Spot on - I was fucking livid at his lack of aggression/closing down.

I know you're not addressing me, but I've always given Henderson time because he had youth on his side as well as a commendable attitude. Aspas has neither - so it's fair enough to judge him straight away. More often than not the players we're told 'need to adapt' are playing for Sunderland or West Ham 12 months later.
