Is there a future?

Another big performance with Fener this week and a fantastic game winning goal:

Speed - check. Talent - check. But does he have the work ethic or physical ability to handle the premier league?

I think his work ethic was always fine, both in training and on the pitch. The only question mark for me is the finishing.

One of the most pointless loan deals ever. He got his big money move because he was too good for the Portuguese league. If we weren't going to allow him develop here then send him on loan to another premiership club, don't pack him off to Turkey, to a league similar to the one he left behind in Portugal.

I really hope he gets a preseason and a chance with us/Klopp in the summer.

I read that Fener offered to pay all his wages but other clubs wanted us to pay a percentage so he went there. I'd rather pay some of his wages and see how he gets on at a club like Norwich than pack him off to Turkey and forget about him.

Well, you could make an argument that not many PL managers would have the guts to give regular playing time to a foreigner on loan – exactly what happened to Ilori. Whereas now he is playing regularly for one of Turkey's top teams and getting his confidence back.

That's only his second goal of the season. And I don't think he's been playing regularly.

2 goals in 17 games in the Turkish league, hardly making a compelling case to be recalled. Im not a fan of him, I think hes become one of those guys whose reputation has grown simply by not being in the team. I think hed suit the Serie A but I cant see him cutting it in English football

There are still question marks over the first two for me.

He looked to have pretty average pace whilst he was here and in terms of talent and ability to impact games looked miles behind guys like Coutinho and Sterling.

What am I missing?

I'm sure they could find games for a 20 million rated full international who has played in Europa League with Benfica.

And his only "skill" I have seen is to push the ball forward into space and run as fast as he can.

Yes, he is fast in a Forrest Gump fashion, ploughing along in a straight line and building momentum as he goes. He doesn't accelerate quickly, to take himself away from people in tight situations. I haven't really seen him breaking off the shoulder of a defender either. Here's a great example of his pace. A big fucking gallop in a long diagonal line across the pitch with that ball barely under control.

Indeed, average player. The scout, or the committee, or whoever wanted to buy him should be shot. He is not even the top 3 player in a poor Fener side.
Spot on, he's utter gash and we spunked twice as much as Chelsea could have signed him for.

Yep, I used the same "skill" alot when I was around 12 and I got found out pretty quickly.

I think it's a valid criticism really. He didn't have great pace, he had a kick and run style that was completely unsuited to playing against congested Premiership teams that like to sit back and soak pressure, and for all this talk of him being a play maker who likes to sit behind the attack, his passing is nowhere near as incisive enough to pick open defenses. But he does have moments of real quality in and around the box, he can pop up with a goal, but he is just as capable of hitting a pea roller that offers no threat at all. He just seems a bit too much of a luxury, no defined position, just a player you could probably use at best to grab a late goal.

He's also young with much improvement to come.

Last season, he played like Henderson in his first season here. In his first season under Kenny, you'd see flashes of ability from Henderson, but more often than not you'd see him deferring to a senior player like Gerrard and not daring/willing to take risks or seize the initiative in games. Henderson needed to grow a pair if he wanted to stay on, and I'm glad he's kicked up a couple of levels and developed into a fine player here since he nearly got shipped out.

It's true that Markovic wasn't played in his best position yada yada, but the same happened to Sterling and Ibe. However, while you could always pull those two up for the mistakes in their decision-making in the final third, you couldn't criticize them for being timid. With Markovic though, he just seemed to lack the fight and looked timid. I'm hoping it's just a matter of him realizing that it's okay to push and make mistakes than to sit back and zombie walk through a game.

For me, he needs to work on his heart and head first, then his repertoire of moves.

I'm sure you are right. But there has been a lot of discussion about players taking time to settle, especially young players in a different country and culture. From that perspective Lazar has been poorly handled. Played out of position in a struggling side, then moved to another culture and having to acclimatise again. Many of the 2014 summer buys have shown improvement this season. I have little doubt that Lazar would also have fallen into this bracket without the ridiculous loan.
