Reports that Lambert is having a medical today at West Brom.

Good move for him, a Pulis team might get the best out of him at this stage of his career (especially if they keep Berahino to play off him ).

2m or so reported fee.

From memory the club sanctioned the sale, but he didn't want to go. In fairness to the club they realised pretty quickly he wasn't up to it and were looking to offload him ASAP.

We made a £2million loss on him, but he did a job at points last season, and scored a couple of goals, hardly a disaster, but Rodgers should never have signed him without a coherent plan. Good luck Ricky, you'll be a great punt in fantasy football at WBA.

A life-long red who got to pull on the shirt and score for his boyhood team. Under a decent manager it might have worked out. Good luck to the bloke.

Meh, I suppose we helped him achieve his dream. Shame he did very little to assist in us realising ours. He's no loss at all.

(4-4-2 with Chester at RB, Dawson/Olsson CB, Brunt LB, Gardner RM, Yacob/Morrison CM, McClean LM, Berahino/Lambert attack)

Lambert fires a left-footed effort from distance which takes a wicked deflection and leaves goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall stranded #WBA

New boy Rickie Lambert is at it again! His second goal of the evening & a well-taken close-range finish from James McClean's cross #WBA

Raring to go.

The romantic thing is: at least he got to wear the shirt. The reality is: he was shunned by the club as a kid, he went off, built a career for himself elsewhere, won huge self-respect, and got an England call up...and then we bought him, treated him like the pathetic loser we'd told him he was all those years before, and then sold him to a shit club run by a character dropped from Full Metal Jacket. It's not really like we were worth it for him, eh? It should have been the pinnacle of his career. I suspect he'll try to wipe it from his mind. And who could blame him.

We didnt play to his strengths and should have used him differently.
But he looked overawed by putting on the red shirt and out of his depth from day one.

I think everyone had that feeling when he missed that penalty. He hadnt missed one in God knows how many years before that.

Good luck to him. Seems like a great lad.

PS WBA paying 8 mill for James fucking Chester. Insane.

Like what was the point in buying him to use him the way we did?

We talk about liking players and not liking players, but what about treating players with a bit of respect by the management?

I thought it was a bad idea from the start, but some cunt decided it was a good idea to take Ricky from Southampton and then basically not give him a chance.

Pretty much this. However the other strikers (and the rest of the team) failing so miserably last season also contributed. If he had came off the bench a few times and the team had been playing well with a decent lead, then he wouldn't have been under so much pressure and he probably would have been able to show off the abilities that got him into the England team.

At 4 million given his previous two seasons at Southampton it was well worth a shot. He was poor in his time here but the team overall were rubbish and it's not like he was missing chance after chance that was served up to him. Ultimately, he was used badly but didn't deliver, but it wasn't from lack of effort on his part. I hope he has a great season at West Brom.

He wasn't overawed. He was just criminally misused. A shameful waste from start to finish. Who bought him and why?

I agree that he was misused and Rodgers has to take a lot of blame here but he did look out of his depth.
Lack of confidence or trying to hard. I dont know.

I think he looked out of his depth because he was used wrong

You don't just forget how to take up goalscoring positions, without someone telling you to play differently
