Kuyt

I think Morph points valid, TBH.

He was only debating the theory that Kuyt scores more goals up front than he does on the right, and with things like goals off set-pieces it shouldn't really matter where your 'position' is, because you'll be in the box anyway.

He never said Kuyt's goals were irrelevant per se.

What about a goal like last night then? How would you categorize it?

What about it? I think it's the dullest debate of all time personally, and don't really wish to get involved.

Kuyt did have more attacking freedom and was told to get up with N'gog whenever he could, because we'd be fucked otherwise, but, yeah, it'd be a goal from RM.

I guess my beef is that his labels are so arbitrary.

Like the game against Stoke, he was clearly playing as a wide player, yet he deemed it a "forward" goal, or the one against West Ham, where all of a sudden his position became irrelevent.

I'll give you a tip, Squigg, if you don't want to get involved in the dullest debate off all time, then don't contribute.

Dirk should never starts every match..he is at best a very average player. Play Benayun there.

He was excellent yesterday, for someone so "average", again.

Mark - when he's good, and again, I saw this 'hot patch' coming, he should be in our starting 11 and playing as he contributes as much as anyone (bar the 'big names'). But when he's bad, like he was MOST of the season, he should not have his name as a permanent fixture in the starting 11. That is the issue here. I'm at least relieved that some of his most stubborn fans, like Brendan for example, admit he should be dropped/rested when his form is as bad as it was before this hot streak (that will hopefully lead us to 4th place) began.

Maybe Rafa wanted to play Kuyt into form, Letal?

Like he's done with Aqua? and Lucas?

Has Kuyt ever been dropped to the bench for more than 1 game since he's signed for us? I just wonder if Rafa goes, will he a) follow him or b) will the next manager give him the same treatment.

I was suprised that some people nominated Dirk in the "man of the match" thread. Dirk was pretty awful and he even did his best to miss his goal, which was a complete mis-kick.

I accept that there is a case for playing Dirk because of his heart and perpetual running, and he took his first goal very nicely against Spurs, but his general skill level is poor.

I have no problem with you disagreeing with my 'labels'.. neither do I have a problem conceding that the goal against Stoke, on reflection, was scored from the (left) wing.. but I do have a problem with you completely & quite deliberately misinterpreting my post, or rather, surmising it to simply 'all his goals are irrelevant' to suit your own agenda. Leave that nonsense to Brendan.. he's actually good at it.

I didn't watch the game yesterday. But I trust in Squiggles that it was a goal scored from the wing position (seemingly he actually understood my original point). Wahey.. chalk it up to another goal scored on the wing. Now what? I've never said he's never scored from the wing or couldn't.
Vlads asked for a breakdown of his goals (and where he played). I gave it to him. The evidence, at the time, showed he scored most of his goals irrelevant of position on the field or as a forward.. he could go on to bang another 10 goals as a bonafide winger.. and i'd love that.. so now what's your beef?

Your evidence is flawed and misleading. That's my beef. You keep twisting the facts to (would you believe) suit your argument.

Against West Ham he was playing as a winger, but "NO!!! It's irrelevant where he played! It wasn't a winger goal, cos he could've scored that goal from any where"

Maybe he could've but he didn't. He scored it when he playing as a right winger, so wear it!

He tapped the ball over the line from half a yard, from a goalbound Gerrard header from a CORNER. His striker's instincts would have had him score that wherever he was on the field. If you can't accept that (as I have conceded the Stoke goal), then i'll debate no longer as you're clearly not after a debate rather an argument.

Such a goal is hardly proof that he's a good right winger or he gets goals from that position. If that's your black and white logic, I suppose the penalty he took against Spurs (which I labelled irrelevant of position) would go down as a forward's goal because he was a centre forward in that game? Which would be BS in my opinion, and not worth the effort.
