It's kind of surprising that the Aquilani thread is so much longer than the Dirk thread, given that Kuyt is a far more important and reliable player for us.
Personally it's an age thing. I mean Kuyt is 30 and Aquaman is 26.
Don't get me wrong Kuyt is one of my favourite players but if the money's right...

I really couldn't care about the money, he's a proven player who's worth his weight in gold, he's one of the last players I'd like to see leave, regardless of age.

It's always about making the team better for me...

if he leaves (which he won't) we would have to use the funds to somehow better the team overall, be that signing a better right midfielder or one of similar ability and upgrading somewhere else... whatever. I don't see any way the fee we would receive for him would allow us to do that.

Exactly, and while I hate going all 'statto' it's debatable whether we'd find anyone who would offer us more in terms of goals and assists. I'm sure loads of people will say that we can go and buy a more natural wide player who will change the dynamic of the team, but for the price we're going to receive, and what we're allowed to spend from that, I doubt we could find anyone in that price range who could make such a significant impact.
Egg fucking sackly.
If kuyt and masher are gone and Babel and Lucas are still here I'll be fucking sickened!

Come on, if someone offered you £14 Million for a 30 year old Kuyt, you wouldn't take it?

Let's say that we're bringing in Lavezzi to replace him. Is it tempting?

Ok, ok let's be real Roy is probably moving Babel to the right and buying Matthew Etherington Simon Davies as his replacement.

I'd love to see our starting eleven in the second half of the season when everyone is injured:

Reina

Kelly Carra Skrtel Konchesky

Lucas Poulsen
Babel Dunn Davies
Toivonen

Well I know many on here don't particularly like him,and he's certainly not a CF, but Van de Vart is a versatile forward who can play on either wing or in the hole, scores as many goals as Dirka Dirka and would cost a lot less than we are likely to get for Kuyt IF he goes. On the other hand I'm quite happy to see Kuyt lining up on our RW on Monday.

Mod> I would take 14m for Kuyt, but you would have to worry how much of that OUR would get to spend, and which ancient clown he'd buy anyway

Not a lot of grey area there
I hate myself for believing that he will one day come good for us. I can't help myself though.

I like kuyt and appreciate that people like him because he does so much for the shirt............but i've not been keen on him for a while so if we can get a good fee i'd sell.

The fee quoted is in excess of £12M. I'd grab it with both hands!
I think what it all boils down to is how much of the money we'll get and what we can get for the money.

I'm not sure I trust Hodgson's buying so far, and further I don't think we'll see half of that money go back in to the team. Selling anyone right now seems to be a losing proposition.

If we can get £20 m for Dirk and Babel that would be very good business. As regards if we would see the money from the sales we will have to see . Broughton and Purslow said we would so we will have to see. As regards Rons buys. Poulsen is the only actual buy Roy has made, and he was just a bit of an insurance .

I very much agree, VDV was the next big thing before moving to Réal. I suspect any dip in form has more to do with Réal's ridiculously overpopulated squad and swapping managers every 2 minutes, as opposed to a lack of ability. I would take him for under £10M, or I would also be happy at keeping Kuyt.

Nope, did I miss a smiley there Neil ?

Dirk is what Dirk is , likeable and hard working, with a manager who has supported him through thick and thin, has been a moderate success , he is neither a great striker nor wide player. He has periods where he punches above his weight, and long periods of mediocrity, but always during that time working hard. If I had to compare him to a dog it would be a golden Labrador all bouncy and tail waggy.
I would be sorry to see him go in some respects and in an ideal world would like to see him in the squad, I thought his chances this year could be limited , as we were/are going to bring in another striker and there are better choices for the right.
If he goes I wish him well and good luck.
If indeed an offer of £12 was on the table we will have done well.

regards

Kuyt : I don't think there is any way in the world that Hodgson would sell Kuyt if he didn't have a replacement already lined up .... if he is in anyway considering selling him, which I really doubt he is. The season has already started and we are not going to be making wholesale changes now.

Aquilani : well he hasn't been really involved in our competitive matches so far. I'm sorry to see him go but I assume Roy has take a good look at him and decided he's not ready / not suitable for us.

Babel : I thought he'd be on his way but it seems Roy sees him as a squaddie so I'm losing hope there.

Masherano : it's looking more and more likely that, unless Barca put their hands into a deep pocket, he's staying. I'd say his odds of being sold at this stage are going out faster than the Liverpool to London express. Damn good !

So 2 players to come in, as Roy has already intimated, and it's looking like Toivonen and an LB (and he's looking all over Europe for that one). Plus IF Kuyt goes a suitable replacement.

Anyway it seems that Professor Moriarty has very garciously assured Roy he will not nick any of our players , at least for the time being

don't really mind kuyt, my main problem with him (an it isn't his fault) is under rafa he was picked regardless of form. no point having a squad if you are going to do that.

Liverpool striker Kuyt ponders £15m move to Inter despite Hodgson's plea to Italian club

Rafa Benitez is ready to make a £15million bid to wrest Holland striker Dirk Kuyt from his former club Liverpool.

Benitez, now at Inter Milan, sees Kuyt as just one of the Anfield charges who he wants to join him in his new job.
Something to think about: Dirk Kuyt (right) is aware of Inter's interest in him

Something to think about: Dirk Kuyt (right) is aware of Inter's interest in him

Liverpool remain firm that Kuyt is not for sale. Their new manager Roy Hodgson, also a former Inter boss, is satisfied after a conversation with the Italian club's owner, Massimo Moratti, that the European champions will not attempt to take either Kuyt or Javier Mascherano from Anfield.

But Kuyt says he has been told that Inter faxed an offer to Liverpool and he now believes he has the luxury of choosing between two of Europe's top clubs.

The Dutchman is expecting to play in Liverpool's highly-charged Premier League clash at Manchester City tomorrow night but is likely to be rested if talks between Inter and Anfield resume.

He was reported to have told a newspaper in Holland yesterday: 'On Thursday night, during the Europa League game against Trabzonspor, the board of Liverpool informed me officially that they have received a fax from Inter. You can call this a luxury situation for me now.'

Inter are understood to have offered a cash-plus-player exchange deal for Kuyt which has been rejected, The Italian champions would have to come up with a cash-only deal for it to be considered by the Liverpool board.

Meanwhile, Alberto Aquilani, who arrived at Anfield last season as the midfield replacement for Xabi Alonso, is heading back to Italy for a season's loan at Juventus after his disappointing and injury-ravaged season.

In what is likely to be a busy last 10 days before the transfer window shuts, Liverpool have also been linked with PSV Eindhoven's Sweden striker Ola Toivonen. PSV manager Fred Rutten yesterday said: 'I can't block the transfer.'

I love Kuyt, but if he was going to leave 15 mil would be a fantastic amount.

I'd consider him a serious loss though and we'd need to sign a very good player with that.
