Konoplyanka 3.0

The Ukrainian league has restarted this weekend. Dnipro won their game 3:0, Konoplyanka bossed the game by all accounts and scored a nice goal (video below). The owner, Kolomoyskiy, is surprisingly active in club's affairs, despite his new responsibilities as governor of his region. He is persuading coach Juande Ramos and is reportedly offering him an improved contract.

The club that lost the most during the period of political upheaval is Metallist Kharkov - their owner simply ditched the team after new authorities in Kiev opened 11 criminal cases against him for various corruption schemes. They had to sell their best player (Marco Devic) to Rubin Kazan in Russia in order to pay salary to the remaining players. The manager left the team and most of the players will leave soon too. That's too bad – they had a decent team in Kharkov and were on course for Champions League qualification.

Nothing of this sort will happen in Dnipro, it seems. Konoplyanka almost certainly be sold in the summer, but he won't go for peanuts like Metallist players.
