The Reds boss, speaking at his press conference ahead of tomorrow's game with Tottenham, revealed that he had never doubted the quality of either player, but says their development since his arrival at Anfield has been a big plus.

Lallana's form since the turn of the year has been particularly impressive, and following a string of good performances the attacking midfielder was rewarded with the PFA Fans' Player of the Month award for March.

Asked if the England man had been “a pleasant surprise,” Klopp said: “One of them, for sure. Maybe I have another few!

“I always knew how strong he was. I knew more about him when he played for Southampton. He wrote a very nice story there, and I am really, really happy that a few more people are recognising what a great player he is.

“I saw the game against the Netherlands this week, and he really is a good player – and a nice guy too.
“It's absolutely deserved. He's won the award for the whole Premier League for March? Congratulations. Hopefully he can win it again in April. That will be good for us!”

On Origi, who has overcome a series of niggling injuries to turn in some fine displays, Klopp added: “He's in a really good way. It was interrupted through a few injuries, but that's how it is.

“When we came to Liverpool, we knew about his quality, but we also saw that he was not full of confidence – I don't know about all the different reasons why.

“But he's still only 20, which is quite young. There's a long way to go, but that means there is big space to improve. That's what we try to do.

“He's made big steps, everyone can see that. When we started here, he tried to do too much. There were not enough clear moments.

“Now, he uses his new physical strength better, and his technical skills better, and what is very important of course is his speed.

“It's quite exciting to think about what we can do together in the future, but first of all it is important for us that he's available. For a young player it is normal to take two steps forward and three steps back, but the main thing is hard work, being patient and waiting for the next step.

“Look around the world at 20-year-old strikers. They need experience to always be in the right moment.

"But Divock is in a really good way, and we're really happy that he's here.”

Origi has all the attributes he needs to be a top player, it feels like how good he becomes will be an indicator of Klopps abilities

Ha ha ha ! There are going to be a few posters on 6CM apoplectic after reading that .. boom goes their hopes of selling him in the Summer.

So Klopp loves him ?

*happy, happy dance*

I think managers say alot of things, and I am a big fan of Lallana, but it's a managers job to talk players up. That said, there's a marked difference in this approach, to his reaction to questions about the likes of Benteke. He's also been pretty reluctant to talk up his defenders too much, so you can sort of get a sense of the players he is looking to protect his relationship with and the ones he is leaving open to interpretation.

I think Lallana will stay, I think he's shown he can be a good asset if only as a member of the squad, he's hardworking and can make things happen if he's more direct, which he seems to have finally started realising (maybe it's coaching). I think we need more goals and we'll see other attackers come in, which may see his opportunities lessen, who knows, but he's been one of the big pluses under Klopp. Same for Origi, people have written him off already but he's got 7 years on Lallana, he's in a very good Belgian setup too and was highly regarded by Klopp before he came here. There's alot more to potentially come from him, but yes, he needs to show more ruthlessness infront of goal.

Echo writers also chose Lallana as the top player from Liverpool & Everton for March. There were 7 Liverpool players in the March 'Everpool' team. See the Echo for details.

I don't think Origi has much chance to improve if he keep taking two steps forward and three back,

I'm not what the issue is with his shooting (not enough for a start) and goal-scoring but there is for sure more to come and Klopp is the man to extract them. That said he is very obviously a 'Klopp-type' player with his determination and running and technique. He won't be a guaranteed starter next season, but as you said, a great option to have on the bench and he will certainly get plenty of game-time.

When has he? He was playing well then got injured, he's come back and still had a niggling injury but has done ok leading the line. He came off the bench in the cup final and changed the game for us (we scored two minutes later and looked more threatening than we had done for the previous 80 minutes). He's done ok in the last few games too. I don't think he can really be blamed for the dire second half against Southampton.

Like I said, he needs goals but his progress has been pretty good this season. When he looked good he looked really good, I don't think he's had many bad games since when he first came into the side last year and looked out of his depth and overawed.

It was Klopp's comment - in your opening post 😉

Relax Mark.
I am only gently taking the piss out of Klopp mixing up his metaphors.
Nobody progresses taking two steps forward and three back
🙂

We are not looking for another goalkeeper. We have enough high quality goalkeepers, I’ve had a lot of goalkeepers over last few years and Simon Mignolet is one of the smartest I have ever had.

Jurgen Klopp is adamant Christian Benteke has a long-term future at Liverpool FC as he hailed the Belgian as “the complete striker”.

Well, Klopp's had another few months to look at them both since he said those things. In any case my guess (and I admit that's all it is) would be that he said them as much with an eye to possible future fees as to anything else.

Lallana gets stick from Liverpool supporters, primarily down to his price. But I like him.

I don't get some people who want us to sell him. Have they no idea about the concept of a squad? We're not Bayern Munich. We can't have 18 world class players. Lallana fits in perfectly on the right, left or centre of a 4-2-3-1 that we play. He's also picked up the Klopp way of playing quicker and better than anyone else, arguably. Very handy player to have around.

On Origi, he's looking very decent lately. But like all strikers, he'll ultimately be judged on goals. The question is whether he can be a regular goal scorer.

In theory price just went up 😀

Lallana still has a very long way to go to justify his signing. We've still a great brilliant games from him but we need to start seeing them more regularly.

Origi has good potential, but his continued selection says more about our lack of options than anything else. He offers hard work and alright link up play and movement, but his goal threat is minimal and I always feel we're more likely to score when he's on the bench or coming off it. I think he can be happy with his first year here. It couldn't have gotten much better for him if you discount a few injuries. Hopefully this year will prove a significant year in his development in England and we reap the benefits later down the line.

I know what the issue is, it's quite obvious. He isn't very good at shooting and goal-scoring.

And neither is Origi

Maybe we should better define that as goalscoring rather than shooting per se. He scored 48 goals in 235 matches for Southampton (0 in 21 for England & 8 in 51 for Liverpool). Which suggests that either his responsibilities have been altered restricting his goal threat or that our style of play doesn't cater to his particular skill set. I think it's the former, especially when watching the clip below where he often gets into the box and beyond the backline, it seems to me he doesn't do that nearly as much for Liverpool.

Agreed, I'd certainly keep Lallana as an option, but he's an expensive option to have.
Wouldn't mind if he's sold either, primarily to get some of the money back.

We shouldn't give a shite about money, certainly not with Lallana when dongs like Balotelli are on the payroll.

We're not going to get that much money back on him though, due to his age, so we may aswell get our money's worth instead.
