I agree with Brendan in that money and success are far bigger pulls than the manager; Robinho didn't turn up at City to work with Mark Hughes.

City, Barca, Bayern would attract the players with or without Guardiola. Or whoever. I think the manager may make the difference between clubs on an equal footing, but otherwise the club foodchain will reign.
Which is similar to my overall point

If clubs were on equal footing, then yes, the manager could make the difference. But we're so off the levels of city/Barca/Chelsea/real/united, in financial and recent success, that I don't think the manager has that big of a sway.

I honestly think people come to us as a stepping stone sometimes

Yep. I definitely think this is the case, whether it's a conscious thought at the time or not.

Yeah, I think we're all sort of agreeing in general.

If Liverpool was exactly the same club right now, but instead of Klopp being the manager it was, I dunno, Eddie Howe or Marco Silva, then we'd find it harder to attract players. He's the biggest name, highest profile and most successful manager we have attracted to the club......possibly ever, actually.

Agree

But the original arguement was klopp was the PRIME reason people came to us. Which I just can't agree with

Actually, the original argument was top teams wanted our targets, but didn't actually bid for them.

Rafa Benitez was shit hot in 2004. Just won the La Liga/ UEFA cup double. Won the La Liga twice against Madrid, Barcelona. The footballing lessons his Valencia team gave us.

Rafa was bigger than Klopp.
Obviously the trophies he managed to win also show that.
And as I've said before, after Klopp, Rafa would be the first guy on my list.

Yes, but Klopp won two league titles in Germany and was, for whatever reason, possibly more well-known and high profile. I have never doubted how great it was to get Benitez either, along with Mourinho he was the most sought after young manager in the world at the time

Perhaps it's about equal.

Mine too only because there is actually no one else i would trust. With Rafa we would get defensive stability along with clever forward play. With Klopp we get proper all system go to the point where players have regular brain farts.

I think klopp gets viewed more impressive because we were all well aware of his exploits at Dortmund manager, as he's such a character

Rare seems to have the personality of a slightly wet shovel

I'm not sure what 'magic' Klopp brings to player recruitment, but I'd daresay it's a little more strategic than begging Gerrard to ring Toni Kroos and get him to turn down Real Madrid for us.

I think it's because apart from Klopp's hugs, he individually kitkats his favourite players in the team bath after the match. Naturally this puts some players off, but appeals to VvD, Keita etc.
