Re: Kahn Fight Tonight...

just shows - roach can take any wanna be arrogant chump and make him into a decent boxer. all i want to see now is roach slap khan in the corner when he reverts to type as an arrogant cunt in the ring.

i don't get think anti arrogant thing - many of the best boxers of all times weren't exactly shrinking violets about their ability and place in the sport?

Re: Kahn Fight Tonight...

His name is KHAN, for KAHN, for flips sake!

I thought it was a very disciplined performance from Khan, he looked comfortable at all times. Well done lad!

Nice to see a British Muslim in the media doing something positive for a change; that's why I like him.

Punching people in the face?

I know what you mean Anita. But just because hes a British Muslim doing something positive doesnt mean he isnt an arrogant annoying little wanker.

Definately, that's what Brits muslims need, more people punching others in the face.

I don't particularily think Amir Khan is arrogant, there are far far worse boxers. The couple of interviews I have heard of his have been pretty good comes across quite well.
If people hated/disliked him for the reasons Sheikh does, I would get it a lot more.

Re: Kahn Fight Tonight...

I thought he spoke very well after the fight. Maybe being with Roach (and getting knocked out) has matured him a little bit?

Oh yeah, I know mate. There are tons of them out there, trust me, I've met loads of them.

I agree Rafa, I think Roach is a genius, Khan would have never been capable of a performance like that this time last year. Also, he is only 22, so naturally signs of immaturity have been there in the past, I think he's got the best people around him now and with age, hopefully he'll go the right way.

But as boxers go, I don't think he's overly arrogant really.

Re: Kahn Fight Tonight...

It also seems from the outside that being around Manny has helped him as well. For a boxer like Khan it must be aces having someone like that to look up to.

Back to the boxing though, with Khans fights they are great to watch from a pure entertainment point of view. I find myself on the edge of my seat however well he's doing, purely because of the fact, that however well he's going you always feel that one punch could change everything.

If he stays around the sport for a while, he should be involved some great fights.

Glad he got the win, Roach got the tactics spot on, and Khan carried them out perfectly.

Interesting to see if the talk of a Hatton fight amount to anything.

Could Hatton make the weight?
interesting thing is that khan has got the height and build to go up at least two weight classes I think.

He should fight Prescott again before any of the big boys.
You just want to see him get knocked out again 🙂

Not a hope in hell of it. Unless it's a mandatory challenge.
In that case he'd be better off giving up the title.

I wouldn't write Khan off yet. He had far too many easy fights prior to that and got caught out against the first good puncher he faced. He'll be better in the long run for it, and he certainly has the right coach guiding him at the moment.

I know Khan boxed very well indeed on Saturday, but one thing that struck me was that allthough he dominated the guy, he didn't seem to hurt him much with his punches (Khan through over 900). If Khan went in with a big banger who can take a whack or two, I'd still seriously worry about his prospects.

I read an article about this hard hitting Argie lad Khan is likely to have to face now that he's won the title........Roach is already talking about giving up the title so that he can pick his own targets.

That's Hatton to a "t". It'll be very interesting to see whether Roach lets that fight happen. If he doesn't, he clearly still has his doubts about some aspects of Khan's skills.

The talk is of Erik Morales next mate. Personally i hope Hatton retires, hasn't he been in hospital with health problems recently? Roach is still concerned about Khans chin.

Amir Khan will be urged to give up the world title if he wins on Saturday and is then ordered to make a first defence against Marcos Maidana.

Five years after winning an Olympic silver medal, the Bolton boxer steps up a division to challenge Ukrainian Andreas Kotelnik for the WBA light-welterweight title at the MEN Arena in Manchester.

Khan's trainer Freddie Roach is confident he can win his first world title, but does not want the 22-year-old anywhere near Argentine Maidana, who won the WBA Interim title last month by stopping American Victor Ortiz.

Instead Roach would rather see Khan beat Kotelnik and then fight Mexican legend Erik Morales in Las Vegas.

American Roach said: "Someone mentioned fighting Marcos Maidana next. Why? Let's build that fight up.

"Do you fight that guy in your first defence for a little bit of money or do you make that fight down the road for a lot of money? Take the belt back if they order Amir to fight him next. Belts are fun to win, but they don't make you money.

"Manny Pacquiao hasn't fought for a major belt in a long time. You fight the right fights at the right time.

"I am not keen on Maidana yet. I'd like to see Amir make his American debut next. There is a November date open.
"There is a possibility we can fight Erik Morales who is making a comeback. It is a good name. It is timing and I think we can beat that guy.
"There are some good fights out there for him.

"He hasn't even fought in American yet. "He will be a hit in America because he is a good-looking kid and his style is fun to watch."
Khan admitted: "I'm going to have to do something special to KO Kotelnik - and I will.
"I saw the Maidana-Ortiz fight and it was an impressive victory, and shows just how good I need to be if I am to become a world champion."

Maidana won a slug-fest against Golden boy's top prospect Ortiz a few weeks back. Looks abit of a banger.
Maidana also lost to Kotelnik pretty recently.

I can see Khan fighting Morales next though, as with Barrera it will be another legend on his CV, although it wil be a legend who has lost his last 4 figts, and been in-active for 2 years!
