I made no secret before Kenny's appointment I'd love Boas in the hot seat... However if the powers that be give Kenny a 2 year contract with an option to extend I wouldn't be too disappointed.

Villas Boas vers Liverpool?

Villas Boas to Liverpool?

La Gazzetta Dello Sport reports that the coach of Porto, Andre Villas Boas, met Franco Baldini (Roma) and told him he had a pre-agreement with Liverpool. The Portuguese 33-year-old has made ??no secret either that Mourinho told him it was too early for him to go to Italy.

It's all ver Twitter that Boas has been quoted talking about a pre-agreement with LFC. Interesting.

Gabriele Marcotti - On twitter breaks it down:

Plenty asking about Gazzetta dello Sport line about Villas Boas + pre-contract with Liverpool. Will do my best to sort through it. Gazzetta reported Villas Boas/LFC in context of story about Roma's future. Said Baldini went to see Villas Boas and talked abt Roma job. According to Gazzetta, Villas Boas interested initially, then said had pre-contract agreement with LFC. Couple of things to bear in mind 1. Baldini still works for the English FA, not Roma. And new owners have not yet taken over club. So if I was Villas Boas, I'd keep cards close to chest, wouldn't go so far as to tell Baldini I've committed to LFC. 2. According to story, VB told Baldini that Mourinho had told VB that "he wasn't ready for Italy". Could be VB's way of politely turning down Roma. Could be untrue. Doesn't sound like something VB wd use as an excuse. He's keen to show he's his own man, wouldn't hide behind JM's opinion (based on what I've been told by those who know VB). 3. Some of the other stuff in the story- which is mostly speculative -is patently untrue from what I've been told. Doesn't mean VB line is wrong, of course, but does suggest source may have told journo stuff to serve his purposes. 4. Story also damaging to Baldini. After all, basically says he's working for Roma or Tom Di Benedetto when, officially, he's not (or isnt' supposed to). This suggests to me source of story might be somebody trying to depict Baldini in a bad light. And if meeting was between Baldini + VB, how wd source know what was said? That said, IMO, VB wd be progressive, smart choice for LFC when Dalglish goes. Sorry previous tweets have been speculative, just trying to piece together what I know. Third-party quotes always tricky. Also, VB on record saying he'll stay w/Porto another yr. Not sure it's in his interest 2 make leap now. Cd be LFC sounded him out 4 future

Exactly what my first thought was, why the hell would he announce thsi to the Italian media?

This is what my Porto mate says

He is being hyped up as the new Mourinho. The thing is though, it would have been impossible for any manager to NOT win the league with Porto this season. I can assure you even a monkey would have won the league this season with Porto.

His success has come from inheriting a top quality Porto side, that just needed a bit of tinkering to make it work.

I dont think he's the new Mourinho. I mean, last season it was Domingos Pacienca (Braga's manager) being talked up as some super-manager, and he's had a faily average league campaign this season.

He'd be sacked within the year - at most - at Liverpool IMO.

Let's see how he does in the CL next year.. He's probably the closest we've come to getting a "new Mourinho" though, but right now he is vastly overrated...

I'd much rather we keep Kenny on, as long as the other option is not us getting someone proven like Jose Mourinho and back him up in the transfer window. As it is safe to assume we won't be spending mega-bucks and we are more likely to get an unproven young manager like Boas, I'd much rather we keep hold of some stability in the managerial staff till we get up to speed. Currently we are far behind.

Yep their main competitors Benfica sold 2 or 3 quality players and Porto have Hulk and Falcao who are far too good for that league. If he wins Europa it'll be a decent achievement but the Portuguese league meh.

There have been a number of statements by FSG since they took over about the need to spend wisely and to generate much of what we do end up spending. They'll also be aware of the impending Fair Play regs, and the consequent need not to put ourselves in a position where we have to get rid of a shedload of players in two or three years in order to keep within the rules. I reckon KJ has it pretty much right - we'll spend, but not like there's no tomorrow.

The amount of what we spend will be directly linked to how much we can reduce the wage bill this summer.

Cole, Jova, Agger, Maxi, etc should be shown the door.

Well it depends on how you classify 'spend'. We spent over 50 mil on two players in the January window. Granted, we sold 2 for the same amount but that's just good business.

The issue is we've got nobody we can sell for a high price and improve upon.

Liverpool Agree Deal With FC Porto Boss Andre Villa-Boas as New Manager for Next Season

FC Porto manager Andre Villas-Boas has agreed to become the new Liverpool manager next season.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports the 33-year-old rejected a move to Roma because he has already signed a pre-contract with the Anfield club.

The Portuguese is regarded as the hottest prospect in football management and has been labelled the ‘next Jose Mourinho’.

Villas-Boas worked under the ‘Special One’ at Chelsea but the pair fell out over the differing views on style of play.

He has just won the Portuguese first division title, breaking many of Mourinho’s records at the club.

Mourinho’s right-hand man at Chelsea, Steve Clarke, is already the number two at Liverpool and is known to be an admirer of Villas-Boas.

Many clubs have been after the Porto boss with Inter Milan and Roma said to be at the head of the queue.

Reports suggest Villas-Boas met Franco Baldini, who has strong ties with Roma, and told him he could not take charge at the Stadio Olimpico because he already had a pre-agreement with Liverpool.

Mourinho has also told Villas-Boas it is too early in his career to move to Italy and that going to the Premier League would be more beneficial.

edit.

caughtoffside.com so probably bollocks but I thought I'd post it anyway.

I find it hard to believe that people opted for other than Kenny after what he's done barely 4 months in charge considering where we were. The King ticks all the boxes for a Liverpool manager and has prove that his time out of the game, which was the only negative, has proven not to be an issue.

Truly amazing.

I'm a bit shocked myself.

I think the reason is many people have earmarked him as the next big thing. he is jose's understudy and his teams plays with attacking, aggressive football.

That story appeared over the weekend and, I think, has been rubbished.

If it is true, why hasn't it been reported on 5Live/Talksport/Sky ?

Still- Kenny has taken a struggling, injury riven squad, and turned them into the PL's form team, coping with a massive restructuring of the team in the process. That's proven, a matter of record. Give him the job already.

i voted for boas as i want long term appointment. I know kenny could easily have a good few years, but i want long term options sorted

Although out of those 3 i really don't mind who is given the job. i'll be thrilled
