I don't think anyone is playing down or disagreeing it's filthy behaviour and sure he deserves a ban, even more than 3 games. 10 games however is disproportionate in comparison with other incidents.

It might be disproportionate but it's not overly severe, IMO.

If I bit someone I'd expect something similar. It's sick.

So basically authorities that dish out punishment just put their finger in the air and make shit up ?

Not quite.

But the parties that provide the money for the government/ governing body usually ensure something that is against their interests will have a severe punishment.

Sponsors pay the bills, Sponsors will want anything that isn't in their interests dealt with severely.

Fair enough la, that's your opinion.

Out of interest - as a potential victim of the following incidents - what would piss you off most ?

1- Someone biting you - skin is not broken and no marks
2 - Someone spitting at you
3 - Someone breaking your leg in a footy match
4 - Someone fracturing your skull in a footy match

In order of severity where would you place them ?

So the conspiracy theorists are right ??!!

I don't see why anyone else's career should be affected by what Suarez ultimately brings upon himself. However, I do hope England lose every fucking game for here until the end of time and they get banned from all kinds of competitions because their fans are cunts. Fuck the English FA

I agree with you, but I'm torn on not wanting to see the national team do well long term.

There is just no way of talking sense to the FA about anything.

Will they listen about goal line technology - not even in yet.
Will they listen about refs having televised mike's - no.
Will they listen about having tv replays for incidents - no.
Will they listen about diving and start sending people off - no.
Will they listen about two footed challenges etc getting far more than the red from the ref - no.
Will they listen to a leg breaker getting a smaller ban than an attempted bite - no.

It is a lost cause with them, it's like they enjoy the limelight of being retarded about everything.

And there is absolutely zero anyone can do about it. As they pull the old 'your in our competition so you play by our rules'.

1) disgusting
2) disgusting and cowardly
3) good old fashioned tackle
4) he's a good lad, but he let himself down there

I know what id prefer, but 3&4 can happen without any intent on the part of the offending player. Punishment based solely on the severity of the outcome is arguably more likely to result in injustice.

Every incident needs to be looked at on its merit.

Take for example - Cisse and Carra both suffered leg breaks against Blackburn. Both in wildly different circumstances - if you gave both Lucas Neill and the other fella the same ban , it wouldn't make much sense.

The more severe incidences which you've listed, provided they were deliberate - Roy Keane, Thatcher, etc - should carry longer penalties then the ten game ban handed out to Suarez.

An 8-10 game ban is a suitable punishment for biting

Look, no one is disputing the act or whether it's justifiable, but the reaction of the authorities was predictably severe, they were always going to make an example of him, again and the manner in which they went about it, announcing their intent before investigating is a typical disgrace.

People need to stop getting confused about what get's (most of) our backs up. It's not that he isn't an idiot, it's that the cunts at the top make it up as they go along.

Yea, that's precisely what I was responding to, I don't think there's anything more disgusting about certain violent acts than other, if they result in the same harm, and I think thinking that there is just renders certain types of violence acceptable.

And it's absolutely clear that we aren't disgusted by biting, we are fascinated by it, given it's been shown a billion times in slow mo, and has been a bigger story than a team winning the title.

Surely we're fascinated by it *because* we're disgusted by it?

Mark, it's required by the rules. It isn't made up

It's only a tiny positive, but only the FA could seize on the chance to please a media frenzy and end up alienating many of the people who started such a frenzy. They've gone so over the top they've handed loads of hacks a good reason to attack their long history of inconsistent and illogical judgements, and I just hope these hacks really go for the jugular now. The biter's biter bit.

Can a mod on an actual real pc split the relevant posts into the ten game ban thread & lock this one please?

It's a bit daft having two threads running side by side on the same thing.

If I get the laptop out my 18 month old will end up posting on here. Which may make more sense than posts, but that's besides the point.

And there you have what people are complaining about here. I think Suarez deserved a ban, perhaps 6 games for this. He acted like a complete twat but this 10 games is OTT.

All those other incidents are real and ended in lesser bans:

Viera spitting at Ruddock - 6 games - including the three for the red card prior to the incident
Diouf spitting at a fan - 2 game ban from UEFA
Keane on Haaland - 3 game ban from the red card (he admitted he meant to injure Haaland - albeit later)
Thatcher on Mendes - 8 game ban - plus he had form for doing this weeks prior to this
Chris Morgan on Hume - (which resulted in Hume having his skull operated on ) - 0 game !!!

The problem is there is no correlation between punishment and harm - real or potential. I'd say it was random but the minute it was Luis Suarez we all guessed it was going to be heavy - and that smacks of a lack of impartiality in the 'system'

You're right, of course.

But It only makes Luis Suarez come across as more of a thick cunt, IMO.

if this stays at 10 games, and it will ...thats how many games banned in the last 2 seasons (yes i know this will spill over into a third) ,19 / 20 ? Plus he's got a potential ban for Uruguay looming over him . That's pretty ridiculous , soon enough he won't be able to play anywhere ! So as much as i support him , he's got to cop onto himself or at least find some way of not getting caught . I reckon he really does want to get control of these things but i wonder if he'll be able to. i suspect not .

The wee positive out of it is that Suarez now gets a good break before and after the Confederations Cup. He's been playing non-stop since 2010, save for the mid-season 7-game and 8-game bans here and there.

Played in the World Cup in 2010, the Copa America in 2011, the Olympics in 2012, and playing in the Confederations Cup in 2013. And then the 2014 World Cup and 2015 Copa America swing around again.

He's got a good dose of Kuytamins in his diet.

That is true.

Suarez will come back looking clinical as fuck, as he always does when rested properly.

Well that becomes a circular statement doesn't it ? Suarez is a thick cunt who should know better. Or is it because he's a genuinely thick cunt that he doesn't know better.

I think he'll leave now. Although he's brought a lot of it on himself, it's clear that the FA have it in for him and he's not judged on a level playing field. The hypocritical moral high grounders will have their day of celebration and we'll be a worse team for it. I'm looking forward to 10th place already next season. But, hey, at least we'll have our values.
