Milan Jovanovic has confirmed he is on his way to Liverpool for pre-season training, ending speculation his move could be off.

The Serbian midfielder, who scored the winning goal for his country against Germany in the World Cup, will leave Standard Liege and join Liverpool on a three-year contract.

Jovanovic, 29, rejected claims that the departure of ex-manager Rafael Benitez for Inter had ever affected his situation.

"I am going to Liverpool," he told Nieuwsblad.

"I have signed there for three years. I repeat: no pre-agreement - a real contract. And the departure of Benítez changes nothing.

"I have maintained contact with the Executive Board of Liverpool and everything is good.

"Everything is in order since in the last two years I have played 75 per cent of the matches for my national side.

"Next I am looking for a house. On the 14th or 15th July I will join the squad for a training camp in Switzerland. But, as from Thursday, I want start my individual training programme so I can show them immediately that I am worth a place in the side."

At least that looks like a decent attitude. Sort of the anti- Robbie Keane

Agreed. I like that attitude too.

I havent seen much of Jovanovic at all, not even during the world cup. Where is he going to fit into the team? Who will give way?

Probably LW

Based on one or two pre-WC games I remember seeing, plus what he did in S.Africa, I reckon he looks at least promising, plus he covers two squad positions (LW and back-up striker) we badly needed to address. His attitude seems right too, as doc says, and that'll be even more important than usual in these uncertain times.

Welcome Milan Mk.2.

Warm welcome to Jovanovic, we probably could a lot do worse these days.

Fingers crossed he'll click from first match and onwards and turn into a shrewd signing. We need that.

That's a comfortable start for Hodgson.

I presume he will play up front with Torres with 69 goals in 146 appearances for Liege .

Hmmmm a Purslow link to Jovanovic, no wonder he signed

"Jovanovi? quickly became a fan favorite, scoring 14 goals in his first season and earning the nickname "the snake" for his fast movement."

So you reckon we'll revert back to a 4-4-2? Interesting. I suppose when masher goes we'll probably end up with a central midfield pairing of Gerrard and Lucas anyway.

I wonder where Roy will be looking at playing Gerrard.. (assuming he stays).

I doubt it'll be in a CM duo with Lucas. He'll know neither of them is suited to the deeper-lying role which Masher (about whom some on here are going to look a right load of charlies if he does go) plays so well. Besides, Rafa does seem to want Lucas and I can't imagine we'll pass up the chance of actually getting a fee for him. My guess is strengthening CM was always going to be one of the new manager's priorities, whoever he turned out to be.

He's looked really tidy at the world cup don't you'd think? Pacy with a good touch and a good brain. Welcome Jovo!

I hope he's El Zhar's replacement.
I hope you don't mind me asking but who's this El Zhar you are speaking of, who's apparently played 21 games for Liverpool?
I was just thinking that. Wish I believed in omens. (Might Jung have said I should? 😉)
He'd probably suggest you not believe in anything that defies rational thinking. The irrational (synchronicity etc) is beyond belief. It's more a matter of knowing and intuition, a felt sense.

What is a life without meaningful coincidences?

Any dreams about Hodgson lately?!

I did have a daydream that Capello resigned and the FA swooped in to take Roy off the market. It didn't last long unfortunately.

I'd have suggested to Jung that that felt sense passes over into belief when one assents to it and psychologically assimilates it. Happens all the time in a football context, I find. 😉

Nip down your nearest Moroccan restaurant and you'll see half a dozen El Zhars in the kitchen or running around taking customers' orders. There's a factory which churns them out by the thousand. It's probably in China, but there you go. 😉

I wonder how many of us will be "believing"in Hodgson in a years time eh?

None, I hope, because new owners are vital and I'd be surprised if they were to stick with Roy, pretty much regardless of results. If they don't arrive at all - well, again, here's hoping.

Imagine if we got between 10-15 million for him

Promising player with a good attitude, on a free, to fill empty squad positions. We'll need a few more of these before the seasons out.

I sense there's something about him and hopefully he'll prove to be like another Maxi and not another Degen or Voronin.

I.e: Fucking hopeless and a gross waste of time, money and effort.
