Sport.co.uk understands that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is leading the chase to sign Lille’s Belgian international Eden Hazard.

The 19-year-old is held in high esteem by a number of Europe’s top clubs with the Premier League quartet of Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea also thought to be monitoring the talented forward.

Spanish giants Real Madrid have also been linked with the two-time Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year, with Bernabeu Special Adviser Zinedine Zidane personally recommending the striker to the club.

While interest mounts in the forward a move during the January transfer window has been ruled out, however the heralded starlet is expected to seal a move away from Les Dogues when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

“There is a lot of interest in Eden currently as you would expect,†a source close to the player told Sport.co.uk.

“Which top club in football wouldn’t want to be interested in such a fantastic talent?

“But obviously one must look at the situation from the perspective of Lille. It is impossible to talk about a move in January even if the player wanted to leave.

“Lille are leading Ligue 1 and they want to finish the season competing at the top. However a move in the summer is possible, but we will have to look at what offers are on the table. “

When asked which club was leading the chase the forward, the source intimated that it was the Gunners who were currently showing the biggest interest.

“As I said many top managers and clubs are interested in Eden. Arsenal have a lot of French players, and Eden is from Belgium, so language would not be a problem. He is a talented young player like many of Arsenal’s players, but we will have to wat and see.â€

Skysports.com understands Hoffenheim are trying to lure Ryan Babel away from Liverpool.

The Bundesliga side have held a long-term interest in Babel and have made moves to sign the Dutchman in the last two transfer windows.

Babel's future at Liverpool has again been the subject of conjecture with the 24-year-old failing to establish himself in Roy Hodgson's plans.

The former Ajax man has made just one Premier League start this season and Liverpool are thought to be open to offers for Babel.

Birmingham are also keen on Babel and are believed to have had a loan bid rejected for the forward.

Hoffenheim are thought to be ready to make a bid to sign Babel on a permanent basis as doubts surround the future of Demba Ba.
Any move for Babel depends on Liverpool being able to bring in a replacement as Hodgson does not want to leave himself short of options with the under-fire Reds boss already lacking strength in-depth in attack.

Come again? He's hardly ever played Babel (not that I'm complaining about that).

Why would anyone sign Ryan Babel?

What for exactly?
Goals, rhymes and shit.

So with Roy gone, can we expect to see some new signings and a statement of intent from FSG?

Signings certainly. That's Comolli's main job and he'll make sure at least one or two come in, if only to justify his position. There won't be many though - NESV have already made a number of statements and this is one thing they've (rightly) made clear. January isn't a good time to buy big if you can avoid it.

JJ I agree that January isn't ideal for big buys but we have exceptional circumstances.

Do you honestly think that we can afford not to bring in a few big names?

We're crying out for a pacy left winger and a striker to help Torres. There's also the matter of LB but Aurelio is fit, so I'm sure that it can wait for the summer.

I'm convinced we will sign one or two players, but we won't sign enough to plug all the gaps, because we need a LB, CB, CM, wide attacker and a striker.

And we won't get all of them

Shouldn't Wilson be getting a chance at CB by now before we buy one? He has champions league experience for Rangers (I know, I know), yet I don't think he has played a single league game for us?

I can't believe that we're looking for a centre half when we bought Wilson who is supposed to be such a huge talent.

With Kenny at the helm, he'll get some game time now. Didn't Kenny get push for his signing?

Attacking talent should be a priority.

Kelly can cover both fullback positions. Aurelio should be first choice LB. He is fit. Wilson is good enought for centre half cover. Defence is sorted.

Hazard to Arsenal is almost a cert then. Fuck! He would have been perfect for us.

Hopefully we'll add a couple of quality signings. A winger and a striker would be excellent for starters.

Does that mean bye bye to Walcott?

I wonder if we were ever in for him ...

I would say its a goodbye to Arshavin.
Good call Paddy ... Yah, he's gone ... and they've replaced a solid player with a potential world class player ... Great

Maybe we still have a shot:

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed his interest in Eden Hazard and looks set to make a move for the Lille star.

The Belgian winger is one of the most highly-rated players in France and seen as one of the most promising prospects in world football today.

The 20-year-old has already made over 100 appearances for his club and been part of the first-team for over three years, and appears ready for a new challenge after being voted the French Ligue 1 player and young player of the year.

Hazard has already stated his admiration in recent times for Arsenal and Wenger's ability to bring on young players, but also was attracted by a move to Liverpool.

I love the way everyone thinks our defence is fine and that we need to concentrate our transfer funds on attacking players, despite the fact that our defence has been SHIT all season.

agree to an extent though i also feel there is no support from the midfield since mascherano left so they are much more exposed

I don't think anyone thinks it's fine, but we have options to try before splashing the cash, whereas it's been obvious for years that we need to spend attacking wise, and haven't done it.

Linked with Lukaku and Pablo Hernandez today. Both would be excellent.

HA HA ... no chance man ...

Newly installed caretaker manager Kenny Dalglish and Director of Football Damien Comolli have reportedly been busy drawing up plans for the January transfer window and are keen on making moves for Benfica full back Fabio Coentrao, Stoke City centre back Ryan Shawcross and Utrecht striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel.
Portuguese international Coentrao is attacting a lot of interest and is thought to be a player that Comolli rates very highly and given Benfica’s poor showing this season, eight points behind leaders Porto, Liverpool may feel they can persuade the 22 year old wing back to push for a move.
Dutch international Ricky Van Wolfswinkel is a player that has interested the Merseyside club for a few months now and some sources suggest that an offer of around £8.5m was made for the Utrecht man and Liverpool appear willing to up that original offer in order to beat off interest from Napoli in the prolific Eredivisie striker.
Liverpool had been strongly linked with Stoke City defender Robert Huth but apparently his team-mate, and former Man United player, Ryan Shawcross is also a player the Anfield side is keen on bringing in to help stabilize an error prone defence.
Dalglish and Comolli will be looking to find ways to bring in realistic targets in January so as to help the club salvage something from a season that has been truly woeful but they will also be looking to bring in players who are there for the long term and will therefore only be looking to buy players in the relatively early stages of their careers and these three fit that bill and would not require the club’s owners to fork out excessive amounts of money in the process.
