Im trying to think of the last season where we didnt end up on the list of 'Worst signing this season'?

Summer 2010 - Jovanovic and Cole

Summer 2009 - Aquilani

Summer 2008 - Degen, Dossena, Keane

Summer 2007 - Voronin, Lucas (on the plus side we got Babel this window)

Summer 2006 - This one was ok..

Summer 2005 - Morientes, Pellegrino

Summer 2004 - Josemi

We're shit at being good at signing players who arent shit.
summer 06 wasn't ok! you're forgetting about the worst one of all, jermaine pennant.

and 04's worst signing was cisse, by quite some distance.
I dont think Pennant would have made the 'worst' transfers of the year list? He wasnt amazing or anything but he was ok. There are bound to be far worse signing that year.
And Cisse scored in an FA cup and Champions league final. You could hardly call him a flop? We havnt won a trophy since he left.
A penalty in the CL Final doesn't really count mate. Although it does in some way I suppose.

Did you mean the World Club Final?
No i know it doesnt REEAAAALLLY count, but ya know. Part of the great good and all that. Christ we even credit Pongolle and Mellor with some of our success.
Yeah yeah true. Don't worry mate, I'm with you on Cisse anyway.

Didn't he score 19 goals one season too? Hard to class a striker our "worst signing by some distance" after scoring 19 goals.

Also, if he'd managed to actually lob the ball over Cech in injury time in the semi-final instead of flopping it into his arms, he's have made a real hero of himself.

I remember drunkenly arguing with him one night over who could run quickest out of me and him.

I think we were supposed to stage a sprint down the street somewhere to settle the bet but it never materialised.

I'd have skinned him, obv.

Suarez and N'Zogbia would be a very decent transfer window. If we picked up a defender who could like, actually defend that would also be boss.

Suarez lines up Anfield move after telling Ajax he wants to join Reds

By Rory Smith
Tuesday January 18 2011

Liverpool target Luis Suarez is believed to have made it clear to Ajax that he would be prepared to leave the Dutch club for Anfield should a suitable offer arrive in the remaining two weeks of the January transfer window.

The Eredivisie side's new boss, Frank de Boer, has stripped the Uruguayan international of the club captaincy after a number of controversial incidents and is thought to be resigned to losing the striker in the coming weeks.

Liverpool have emerged as favourites to secure Suarez's services after Tottenham chose not to further their interest in the 23-year-old, who will only contemplate a move to England should he be able to join a club with a core of Spanish-speaking players.

Though Ajax are prepared to listen to offers substantially below the £35m valuation they placed on the striker after an impressive World Cup, the Dutch club will not countenance selling the player for less than £18m.

Whether Liverpool match that fee will depend on whether the club's owners, Fenway Sports Group, believe Suarez's age, potential and marketing power make him a worthwhile investment.

Manager Kenny Dalglish and director of football strategy Damien Comolli will doubtless attempt to convince the group's principal backers -- John W Henry and Tom Werner -- of that in the coming days.

Dalglish and Comolli have also scouted Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia intensively in recent weeks, and the Frenchman may prove a cheaper alternative to another long-term target, Aston Villa's Ashley Young.

The England international would cost around £15m should Villa choose to release him, roughly twice what N'Zogbia may cost.

Another Villa player, left-back Stephen Warnock, is also being monitored. Dalglish may look to bring the 29-year-old back to the club he left in 2007 on an initial loan until the end of the season.

When you take probable price into account, N'Zogbia would be a better option than either of the Villa players IMO. Young at his best is probably the most talented of the three, but he's not at his best consistently enough for the silly money we'd be charged.

I agree. In fact, I think N'zogbia has more flair and skill than Young though he's not as consistent.

Enquiring is good. Buying is better. This Lukaku does look like a serious prospect, but I'd like Suarez because I've actually seen him play and been impressed. Which isn't the best of reasons.

I'd love us to be in for Lukaku.

He'd be a real handful up front and has acres of potential to fulfil. I've loved Drogba (as a player, not the man) ever since he arrived in England and this las the potential to be every bit as good one day.

Even if we don't sign Lukaku, it's great to be linked to the premier young talent in the world.

Definitely. We haven't signed anyone yet, but it's good to see in our current predicament that we're still being linked with quality. Hopefully that says alot about our stature as a club and what people think about the longterm. Also, it's important we attract players of this quality because it might convince others to stay.
