Jan transfers (all other clubs bar Liverpool)

Arsenal bid for Ollie Watkins
Yeah it was rejected.
Think Arsenal hope that Watkins will push for a move since he's an Arsenal fan.

They've also received a bid for Duran from Saudi.

Villa can't sell both.

Would make sense to sell Watkins though. Considering his age and the size of the bid.
They won't get that much for him again I think.
Arsenal will use the money on someone else in the summer.

I'd be selling Duran. If villa have aspirations, then they should see arsenal as a rival and refuse based on that

Duran is the future. He's only 21
True, but do you strengthen a rival? It's a trade off. Clearly villa have decent scouts, and they want João Felix. Felix and another young striker for the price of Duran, whilst keeping continuity with Watkins?

I didn't know about Felix, in that case you're right.

60m for 29 year old Olly skews another wide Watkins? Mental…

Could've had 117m in the last 48hours for their strikers. Perhaps a case of poor timing, clubs don't tend to let first teamers leave this late.

& Villa aren't exactly a sell to buy club either like some out there, so under no pressure to sell.

I got a coach from Liverpool to visit my parents in Berkshire on the day of the shooting. My old man was meeting me off the bus & we were to go for lunch in a country pub. His idea had been to go to Hungerford, but my bus was late so we went somewhere more local. If we had stuck to his original plan we would have arrived into Hungerford high street, just as the lead started flying.

There, but for the grace of Robbie ...
I was thinking, Hungerford was nearly 40 years ago, yet people still know about it. In America that's just a regular Sunday afternoon in town, and two weeks later everyone will have forgotten about it as it would have been repeated in 10 other places in the meantime. Thank fuck everyone caries a gun to protect themselves

I saw an info-graphic the other day re. school shootings. World's worst 10 countries by number of fatalities over the past 10 years : China was 2nd with something like 45 (with x4 the population), USA 1,165

Its because the 6 year olds don't always arm themselves,. That's just looking for trouble

If we’d had that offer from Saudi for Nunez, would you swap him out for Felix and Tel?
Potentially. Tel has a high ceiling and Felix, for all him failing to live up to his hype, absolutely has talent and could play the false 9 better than anyone else we have (should we try that)

No to Felix. How many clubs and managers does he need to fail at? At a Cheezy-type price to be a sub, maybe. But not with any hopes of actually being a star.

Brighton have rejected a significant offer from Saudi Pro-League club Al-Nassr for Japan winger Kaoru Mitoma.

The bid was believed to be worth €65m (£54.42m) but sources with an understanding of the situation say Brighton have no need to sell and dismissed the offer out of hand.
However, it is anticipated Al-Nassr will return with a higher bid.

While Brighton are confident in their position and believe Mitoma has no desire to leave, the sums involved are bound to at least be considered seriously by the 27-year-old and it cannot be completely ruled out that a deal will go through.
Mitoma signed a contract extension in October 2023 that runs to June 2027.

That's crazy from Brighton.....imagine what they could do with that 55m. I don't even think Mitoma is that good. Play Adingra and Minteh on the wings. You got March and Gruda there as back ups, take the 55m and do what you do best.

With all these bids being thrown around I'm pretty confident a bid for Nunez also was made and it wasn't bull.

The Watkins bid seems to me very much a 40 million plus a penny, but even more bullshit. Do they want a striker, or do they want to look like they want a striker? Seems to be the latter.

Also, if they want Watkins enough, a player right at their ceiling right now, then why bid now?
it was a show for the fans

Simeone was never going to get the best tout of him, Barca are a weird freak show ATM, and Chelsea it's impossible to know who the manager will be one week to the next.

Bit of time working with someone like slot might help him
