Jamie Carragher = Carlos Alberto?

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson believes the Blackburn performance has set a benchmark for the rest of the season. He even said in jest that Jamie Carragher‘s performance at right back could draw comparisons with Brazil’s legendary full back Carlos Alberto. He said to Liverpoolfc.tv:

“We were much more incisive, we got behind them more, we got behind them down the flanks, and Jamie Carragher was bombing down there like Carlos Alberto of old. We didn’t concede too much space either and were winning the ball back quickly. It was the right sort of performance but we’ve got to give another 29 of those. If we can do that, we won’t go too far wrong but there’s a lot of work to be done here – everyone knows it. We’re working in adversity but sometimes work done in adversity can be beneficial in the long-term because when you come out the other side you are a much stronger team and much stronger people.â€

Ha ha!

That's Glen Johnson beeing told he can find himself a new club then?

Can we please get someone else in charge of this club. Thank you.

NB On a sidenote I actually though Carra had a great game too but let's not pretend he's going to play as good everytime he's played out of position.

Precisely. He's too good a pro not to do his best, but he doesn't want to play out wide and it'll shorten his shelf life if he has to.

He's a fucking card old Budgie, isn't he?

If by card, you mean blind, then yes.

Thought Carra played welll too, but he didn't have much to worry about down his flank defensive wise so had the chance to go forward. He won't have that freedom in every game. Carlos Alberta, not so sure though! Still though, his link up play and delivery were very good.

Shame our other full back was so shit. Every time Konchesky got the ball he seemed to give it away.

I'll be starting to if he isn't given his cards. He's already finding the pressure hard to take, and I don't think he's capable of improving our position much, so the pressure's not going to lessen much either.

I agree, and I'm being dead serious. I think it's a high pressure situation for anyone to be in, and particularly someone of his age, it's not unthinkable to think that he might not be coping with it.

If Johnson, at 60% had the 50 acres of space Carragher was afforded, he might actually have looked like Carlos Alberto.

Blackburn did absolutely everything wrong, for most of the game.

People are reading way, way too much into every comment he makes.

He's made a shit load of blunders, sure, but this is just ridiculous, and boring.

Yeh, I actually like Roy being a bit positive - we need more of it. This is over analysed and I can't really see how he's getting criticism for this particular comment other than baseless conjecture.

Roy got it right for once and the players played for the jersey. We got the result that we deserved.

I don't want him here as much as the next person but while he is here, let's get behind the team.

He won't be here for much longer. He'll either get the boot or leave because of his health. This is a hazardous job and Ged is testament to that.

It's good to be positive, but I'm just wondering whether Hodgson thinks it's a formation that will work over the long term.

I dont think Carra should stay at fullback.

That's my fear anyway. 🙁

If Hodgson says we need 29 more such performances you'd assume he'd go out with the same formation, attitude and tactics going forwards. So he probably won't

Roy has clearly decided that Carra isn't his CB.
[/quote]

That's a pretty expensive contract he has secured for a mediocre full back then. I think he's just had to use him there, and is trying to make him feel good about it, because Carragher doesn't like playing there anymore.
