Robinson joins Blackpool on loan

Liverpool Football Club today confirmed that defender Jack Robinson has joined Championship side Blackpool on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old will spend the duration of 2013-14 with the Tangerines, who are currently managed by former Reds midfielder Paul Ince.

Since making a senior debut against Hull City in May 2010, becoming the club's youngest ever player at that time, Robinson has played a total of 11 matches for the Liverpool first team.

The left-back spent the second half of the 2012-13 campaign on loan with Wolverhampton Wanderers and travelled to the European U21 Championship with England earlier this summer.

He was good when he first broke on the scene under kk.

Also worth remembering berntrand didn't break into Chelsea squad until 22/23, similar to cleverly.

Lol at Modo... tbh I think this is just par for the course for young players, isn't it? There'll almost always be ups and downs as they make the final approach to the first team.

I think Robinson and McLaughlin will both be fine, they're quality players. Maybe not first team players - time will tell on that - but fairly sure they'll be good backup standard at least.

Yep, good move for him. Hope he develops and could challenge for a place in the first team squad next season. He has regressed a bit but the loan at a struggeling Wolves probably didnt help.

I like him too.

Young, very quick, needs to work on his overall game, but he'll come back to us a better player and a more mature footballer. Good luck to him.

To me this confirms we definitely going to bring in LB cover/competition.

He looks like he'd prefer to be in a band than be a footballer.

And a shit band at that. Franz Ferdinand or some balls.

Decent loan move, he owes his time in the first team more to desperation to fill positions than anything he did to merit it. He's one that could go either way, he's not a stand out prospect like Wisdom or Kelly but he does seem to have the basics right. A loan move is the best chance for him to get competitive football and progress away from the spotlight, in a years time he will either have 1 foot in the first team or 1 foot out the door all depends how he applies himself

I'd rather we loaned out our youth to Premier league clubs.

we all would but with few exceptions young reserve players aren't good enough to get games with premier league sides. The better clubs don't need them and the lower placed teams scrapping for survival wont gamble on them

Exactly. If we was good enough for the first team of another Premier League side then he would be good enough for a squad role at LFC and we would be keeping him.

Young players need games, and there's nothing wrong with going to the Championship to get them. It's a fierce league and it will do any youngster the world of good.

So then he really isn't good enough and should be binned. Why waste the time on him??
Because he might develop into a good player. I'd rather loan him out and see if he can cut it, rather than bin him off. We've lost out long term on binning off youth.

We should let them show how good they are consistently, rather than expecting them to be great when plonked in the first xi

As an investment in the player and the academy.

In the player in that he stands a reasonable chance of becoming a good PL player worth £8-10m. It costs us very little to invest that confidence in him while he's on low wages and on loan at Blackpool.

In the academy in that it would be very bad for us to be seen by prospective recruits that we are unwilling to give players time to develop.

Exactly. It's a no lose situation really, he goes on loan and either develops enough for our first team or develops reasonably enough to warrant a good transfer fee further down the line. We sell now and we'd get buttons, this way it gives us the chance for him to better his experience at a good standard and show what he can do.

Played the entire match in Blackpool's 1-0 defeat away to Preston in the Capital One Cup yesterday.

Seemed like a solid, no-nonsense performance there by the lad though there was a fair amount of hoofing. Cross to Ince in the first half was excellent, don't think Ince was offside too.
