We can't bid for VAn dijk unless invited to by southampton and we've already bid 70m for Keita and told to piss off. So selling coutinho this window would just be plain foolish.
So we write to Southampton and say:
We note from the various media reports and public statements from the player himself that VVD wants to leave. We are happy to enter negotiations should you wish to accede to his transfer request.
Shithouse trick this by Coutinho so close to the season starting but I guess this is what happens when you don't invest seriously on the playing side - players will want to leave

Indeed. But it was in response to people getting worked up over Barcelona tapping up Coutinho. Not meant as some sort of defence in court.
True (my mistake) but it amounted to the same thing in the end, in that (a) they reported us for something which everybody does and (b) we apologised to make the whole thing go away.
Get the most we can for him and move on. Not a shock he would want to go there really, is it? Was hoping he'd give us this season, but fuck it. Not cared about a player staying or going since Torres fucked off.
