Yes, he was. Most of us despise the little sh!tehawk because of the way he behaved to get his move, but trying to convince ourselves he's cr@p is doomed to fail. He's not the finished article but he *is* already a very good player and has years ahead of him in which to improve further, though he's got a sod of a lot of growing up to do in order to achieve that.

Stunning Potential is a bit OTT Doc. We have been seeing this for the past 2 years, he has one real move (pace) and no other 'tricks' (a la e.g. Hazard) to get by his man and his finishing is still abysmal. He's not a natural in front of goal and that's not something you can teach, improve on perhaps but he'll never be a natural and score loads. He's going to be a good PL pro, somewhere long the lines of slightly improved Lennon, but I doubt he'll be at a Top 4 club 3-4 years from now.

I think he has loads of attributes beyond pace, personally. He's surprisingly strong on the ball and a great passer and defends and presses well when his team isn't in possession. He is also a natural at finding space between the lines, especially when he plays centrally. As to his finishing, I fear he may learn to do that too. There is that old idea about being in the position to miss them, and repeatedly he does find himself in scoring positions. That doesn't just happen, he gets himself into those positions. I can still remember an U18s game a good few years ago where he scored 5 goals and was absolutely unstoppable (I think he was 16). So far he hasn't managed to find his composure as often as he'd like when in scoring positions, but you know, I don't doubt he has the self-confidence to attain it. I don't like saying this, and I still think the price they paid remains a gamble because his attitude is suspect, but I'm absolutely happy to stand by the idea he is a player of stunning potential.

Agree with the doc. Look at the way he took to playing the #10 role for us, and to a slightly less effective degree, as a lone forward. He has that game intelligence that Ibe doesn't possess atm. His technical ability, while sound, isn't world class, and we know about his finishing, but at 20 and with all the top-class coaching he's gonna receive and learning from the best around him at City, there's every possibility he'll improve on them.

I don't get this world class potential I keep hearing about. He's a winger who can't cross, an attacking midfielder who has poor decision making or a striker who can't shoot. What he can do is beat a man with pace and trickery....that's his game. He's poor at everything else. Oh sorry credit where credit is due he does work hard for the team and isn't scared to tackle. But he will never EVER be a world class player, not even close.
