There are actually some tasty looking games tonight. Argies v Spain. Brazil v Germany and some other game with Italy I think.

It's because they don't intervene. It's just witnessing what's going on in a few corridors.

...hold it...hold it...hold it...

Is this going to take much longer?

Yup. Hold it...

How much longer?

Until someone invents editing! Hold it...hold it...

John Stones is atrociously sloppy. He's like some cartoon version of a ball-playing CB, pointlessly trying to embarrass an opponent on the edge of his own area and promptly tripping over his own feet. Great job, Guardiola, if THAT is an example of you 'improving' a player. Stones was doing that when he was at Everton.

I was wondering if the fact England had defeated the Dutch who got the better of Portugal, the European champions, perhaps meant they were better than I was giving them credit for.

The answer is no, theyre still shit and this match is terrible.

Good goal that actually. Doubt they'll let a free kick be taken so quickly at the world cup.

Referring it to VAR?

ITV are so neurotically positive about Engurland it's a joke. There's just a few months before the World Cup and still these witless unforced errors at the back are being explained away as some kind of sign of positivity.

Weird that Lallana is only just coming on now with 30 minutes left. If there's one player who needs the minutes on the pitch it's him.

Sterling getting praised for his movement, while the fact that he STILL gives the ball away regularly and his shooting is still all over the place gets ignored. You don't win games with good movement.

Defoe:

If it wasn't for the injury, Adam Lallana would be one of the first names on the team sheet, a top player, brings goals and assists. All he needs now is a run of games. If he gets that, someone like that should be on the plane.

People moan about VAR wasting time, but there's a classic example of chronic time wasting - a player (Young) runs off the pitch and falls over, so he rolls back on in the hope of stopping the game. Players these days try that all the time - the mancs did it over and over again when we played them at OT - when they lose the ball they just fall over and stay down and more often than not the ref stops play. It's a massive farce. When did it start? If a player isn't badly injured, leave them to it.
