I posted this elsewhere but thought it made sense to keep a thread on them.

2013/14 (player days injured) : Arsenal 1,716, Spurs 1,441, Everton 1,367, United 1,146, Liverpool 997, City 929, Chelsea 556.

Thru August.
2014/15 (per player absent = one point per week) : United 31, Liverpool 22, Arsenal 21, Everton 14, Spurs 12, City 6, Chelsea 4).

You've got to wonder how Chelsea have so few injuries.

Martin Skrtel and Glen Johnson also both ruled out of Villa game.

Rodgers: "Emre Can could be out for up to six weeks with an ankle injury. Joe Allen has an issue with his knee."

So Sturridge, Skrtel, Johnson, Can, Flanno and Allen all ruled out for Villa. Good job we have a deep squad now.

"Young Jon Flanagan, unfortunately, has just had an operation that will probably have him out for a few months - which is disappointing," the manager told Liverpoolfc.com at Melwood.

There was positive news, however, regarding two more members of Rodgers' defensive contingent, and developments on a potential timeframe for striker Daniel Sturridge's return.

The Northern Irishman added: "Martin Skrtel is back training with the team, which is great news for us. Glen Johnson should be back training over the course of the weekend.

"Daniel Sturridge should hopefully be back training at some point next week. Joe Allen is still out and he'll be out for a few weeks yet."

And again in case you didn't hear it the first time :

Daniel Sturridge is on course to be fit for next Saturday’s Merseyside derby at Anfield.

The Liverpool FC striker has missed the past two matches with the thigh strain he suffered on England duty but has responded well to treatment.
Sturridge won’t be considered for tomorrow’s trip to West Ham but is expected to return to full training next week.

“Daniel is doing well and is out on the field doing some work,” boss Brendan Rodgerstold the ECHO. “He should hopefully be back training at some point next week and will have a chance for the derby.”

Liverpool duo Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson will be assessed this week after Brendan Rodgers confirmed today that the pair have picked up groin and hip injuries respectively.

The former was not included in the matchday squad to take on West Ham United on Saturday due to a groin problem and is 'highly unlikely' to feature in the Capital One Cup against Middlesbrough.

Vice-captain Henderson, meanwhile, will have a hip strain monitored as the manager prepares his squad for the visit of the Championship outfit for a third round tie tomorrow evening.

"We just need to assess one or two," Rodgers explained to reporters gathered at Anfield for a pre-match press conference this afternoon. "Jordan Henderson picked up a knock so we need to assess where he's at. And Philippe Coutinho is highly unlikely for tomorrow as well."

Continuing his update on the options available for selection, the boss outlined how the current situation could provide an opportunity for a number of young players.
"We haven't got any guys returning," he said. "Glen Johnson is still out. Joe Allen and Emre Can aren't fit. Daniel Sturridge won't be fit. Young Jon Flanagan has obviously had his operation.

"So we've got a few injuries to cope with but it'll always give a chance to one or two of our younger players, who are doing very well at the Academy, to get a chance to be in the squad. That's my first look."

Can out for 6 weeks is a major blow - means we're stuck with Gerrard at DM for a fair while.

When is Allen back?

The silver lining I guess is that these guys will miss the international games in the first couple of weeks of October. Hopefully they'll be ready at the end of that break or shortly after. The tricky one is Sturridge - you just know that if he misses the derby but is available for the Basel and West Brom games next week, Hodgson will not hesitate to call him up to "test his resolve" again.

Explains why Suso wasn't on the bench last night. Really really shitty timing for him after playing so well when he came on last time out.

It certainly appears that players are increasingly becoming. More injury prone, I not sure if it's the boots, the regime or the intensity or What..

We were just fairly lucky with injuries last season.

One journalist in attendance at the club's training complex pondered whether the absence of Allen, who is out with a knee problem, had shown how important the Welsh midfielder is to the side. Rodgers agreed and provided a positive assessment of a projected comeback for the No.24. "In this period it certainly has," the Northern Irishman answered. "He's a player that never gets mentioned, or very rarely.

"He's a player that very rarely turns over the ball, he always loves the football and he gets other people playing. The key feature for Joe on top of that is his intensity and pressure - he presses the game really well. "He is a very intelligent footballer; tactically, he's outstanding in the game. And we've really missed his energy and quality since he's been out injured.
"He'll be back after the international break - it's too soon this weekend. But hopefully he'll be back for the Queens Park Rangers game."

Also out through an injury sustained during the last fucking international break. Playing on an artificial surface if I remember correctly.

Jordan Rossiter: From the joy of making his first-team debut at Anfield to the heartache of limping off for the under-19s in Switzerland seven days later. Unclear how long a groin strain will keep him out.
