Carragher. Mostly because people think he can't do anything wrong, despite numerous own goals and mistakes. To be honest, I wouldn't mind if he's replaced by either Skrtel or Agger during the season.

So barto when exactly did I complain that he scores. Bizarrely if he's IN the box I don't mind a shot, it's when he's 35 yards out and thinks 'my team needs me!' and blasts it high, wide and not at all handsome.
Lads it appears we may have a sheep. Gerrard can do no wrong, lucas is the devil and no doubt believes we shouldn't have sold alonso, regardless of our teams morale. I hasten to add he probably phones up 'jacko' on bbc radio merseyside post match and revels in telling him the bleeding obvious and one sided views he can.
But still, we're not all mean here x

Alonso* for pinging the ball about but not offering much else.
Yes, it's evident that was the case with him now that he's gone.

Babel - I've been sceptical about him since he joined from Ajax and although his first season was probably more hit than miss I still wasn't convinced about his "massive potential" due to his shit decision making, shoot on sight policy and one-footedness.

Insua - for being overrated by many Liverpool fans because he broke through the academy/reserves. He's actually pretty ordinary, fine defender but bar the odd assist doesn't offer much else. I don't actually dislike him that much, I just don't believe that he's our "first choice LB for many years" as some used to suggest.

And the usual suspects - Dossena, Lucas, Degen, Voronin etc.

Goodo. Long as he's gone.

Incidentally I do actually like lucas

yossi, because he has absolutely no clue when to release the ball.
I really don't get that Neil, when you rate Babel so highly. If that's your criticism of Yossi, then by rights Babel should REALLY fuck you off.

I'm ashamed to say it, but increasingly, Carra.

I still rate him highly as a footballer, and think his organisational skills at the back are crucial- I don't think he should give up his place yet, but I don't like some elements of his attitude. His behaviour in the Arby incident was disgraceful last season- he's meant to be a leader, and that was unprofessional in the extreme. I also believe he had a stinking attitude about being played at RB last season when needed. There were rumours he took a few massive hissy-fits about it, and our disastrous experiment with Skrtel at RB was possibly because Carra was kicking up a fuss. As far as I'm concerned Carra is partially to blame for those dropped points. I know he gets antsy about not playing his best position beacause he was fucked about by club and country for years as a utility man, but sorry bud, you do as you're fucking told, and with a fucking smile on your face. For someone who gives it the passion fist-pumping pride in playing in Liverpool, he should do whatever is asked of him, and not with a grumpy huffy demeanour.

Are people actually answering Ryan's original question or just listing minor gripes?

How can you not be a fan of Gerrard?

And your point about Gerrard is ridiculous spidey. How many times have we seen Rooney, Eto'o and other top strikers tracking back and helping out in defence? Just because you're a forward doesn't mean you're *never* allowed to set foot in your own half. What a ridiculous thing to complain about. I mean really...

fuck it, just one more and I'm done;

gerrard should trust his teams mates more, if we are struggling he should hold his position and wait for the ball to come to him, yes yes, he is captain fantastic blah blah but he is no longer a midfielder and should stop acting like one, it leaves torres horrible isolated making it a piece of fucking piece to mark him out of the game

seriously after the game where gerrard gave away a penalty, if carra had looked him in the eye and said 'what the FUCK were you doing in our penalty area?' what would have been his defense?
Utter myopic shite. Why am i not suprised.

I'm sorry but which part of what I wrote is rubbish? so gerrard DOESN'T drop deep to collect the ball when the team is struggling? oncy sometimes you argue for argument sake.

Babel.. his complete lack of effort drives me crazy.

To see someone so talented fail because of his attitude is pretty frustrating.
Ditto.

My daughter met him in a club in London after the match on Saturday (she didn't know who he was at first, she's not a big football fan but supports LFC of course !). Other players there were laughing about how he has got a reprieve from Rafa with the international break coming up.
Double Ditto, the boy is the laziest footballer i have seen in a while!!! His attitude is atrocious, he has the talent, he has the ability but applies like he's had his head cut off!!! A headless chicken one might say. What's more galling is that during the very rare games he puts an effort he plays well and puts in a performance that would warrant his place in the next team only to then throw it back in the face of all that puts faith in him!!!

obviously it helps when people drop deep to help out the defense but gerrard should remember that every minute he spends in our own half is a minute torres is isolated because if torres decides to drop deep looking for the ball then there is ZERO presence in the oppositions final third.

look if everyone is okay with torres being isolated and marked out of the game (which usually makes him moan non stop) then so be it.
simply put gerrard tries to do too much, he takes the responsibity of the entire team on his shoulders and it's admirable but he is a forward now and should act accordingly.

Can't believe all you idiots slagging off Carra and Gerrard. Well, I can believe it, because 6CM is infamously contrarian, but still... it's stupid and wrong.

To answer Ryan's question... for me it's Riera. I don't dislike him exactly, and yes he has a nice touch, can keep possession etc etc. But he's so sloooow, and I'm not just talking about his running ability. His speed of thought, when playing for Liverpool (rather than Spain) is a real liability. Can't disagree strongly enough with spiderneil on this: IMO we function much better and more dangerously as an attacking force when Yossi, rather than Riera, is in the team. Yes, he sometimes tries to do too much, but at least he makes penetrative runs, unexpected passes etc. He understands that, facing blanket defences, the key to making a breakthrough is movement, speed of thought, and unpredictability. Most of our attacks end in dead ends when Albert's involved because he spends so long shielding the fucking ball that all the defenders have time reposition themselves.
Neil. You contend that youre 'just not a fan' of Gerrard basically because he works hard for the team. Because he goes deep to help us when were struggling. Because he tries to be captain fantastic to dig us out of holes. You pick a game against Villa where he had a shocker to highlight that. You ignore the fa cup and champions league finals and the 100 other games where him doing EXACTLY that has saved our asses. You ignore the fact that he and Torres almost always dovetail amazingly together and highlight the occassions when they dont, ignoring the 100 goals/assists they have as a partnership in 2 years.
Its just utter total complete mindless shite neil.
And although you will know this now and realise (wish) you shouldnt have posted it, youre just the kind of cat to keep arguing the toss. So by all means carry on.

This is a tricky question anyway, the only player I can kind of agree on is Ryan's point about Masher.

I know people say he's 'one of the best in his position', blah blah, but for £18m I just seem to think we should be getting something more than what we're getting.

Hamann used to get a hard time, but I think he was a far better footballer, even if he was less mobile, he was certainly more intelligent as a player.

I know people say he's 'one of the best in his position', blah blah, but for £18m I just seem to think we should be getting something more than what we're getting.

Hamann used to get a hard time, but I think he was a far better footballer, even if he was less mobile, he was certainly more intelligent as a player.

mark what exactly did didi do that masher doesn't? hamann was a better passer of the break (argubly) better up breaking up attacks but beyond that they are doing the exactly same job.

I just think he was better. Ok, we had his peak years from him and Masher is only young, but his passing, his ability to score the occasional blinder and just his general intelligence at reading the game puts him superior to our Argie.

didi read the game better, passed better, drew fouls when we were under the cosh better and scored some goals but imho masher covers the ground better and allows us to press the opposition better. I always went on about more mobility when didi was here, well that player is masher.

And he loved (loves) Liverpool. Mascherano will never master the Scouse accent.

Not to mention his love for a sly bifter.

So fundamentally Masher is the better player because of better physical attributes?

I'm not saying I don't rate Masher, I just think that his role, while being very specialist also can be considered very limited.
