Av, as i've mentioned Blackpool are 10 points off top at present - how many more points would they have if you added Torres, Gerrard, Reina, Cole, Meireles etc to their squad? Bolton are 6 points off top..........say we gave them just Reina, Torres & gerrard do you not think they'd be even closer to the top?

Our players are easily good enough for a top 4 position this season, unfortunately our manager isn't.

It's not really that simple though is it ?

The dynamic that Blackpool have going is that they're the underdogs, rejected by everyone else and each one of their players has something to prove if they want to remain in the Premiership and get the new bumper contract, probably at another club.

Plop Reina, Gerrard and Torres in there all on ten times what any Blackpool player earns and the dynamic changes.

I do see your point,Sam...but half the team look as if they couldnt be bothered.

We think (or more accurately hope) that it's because of Hodgson's tactics or something; butwe said the same thing at the end of last season too.

And Hodgson is probaby a tenth of the manager Rafa was.

It's worrying.

Blackpool could still get relegated, Pesam. As Burnley might well have done even if Coyle had stayed. The points gap between midtable and the relegation zone is tiny. Remember Paul Jewell taking Wigan into the top 4 near Xmastime a few seasons ago - where is he now?

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, but if it's that Ian Holloway is a better manager than Roy Hodgson, I have to say I'm not convinced. More entertaining and likeable maybe, but no better.

Jack Charlton didn't even do that for Ireland, he couldn't remember the names of the players.
 
Whether you were a fan or not, Jack Charlton had tactics and they often worked very effectively. He didn't know their names but I expect the instructions were more advanced that what's on that board.

There is a natural decline, it set in because of awful decision making over the last three years. I don't see any manager coming in and immediately turning us into challengers because of the financial situation. There's not a huge amount to spend and any spending has to be done in the light that we can't afford to raise the wage bill without being in contravention of the soon to be in place UEFA rules.

No real change and improvement can occur until the wage bill comes down and we offload all the shite. I'd prefer to do that over the course of the next two years with a view to challenging for the league thereafter as opposed to juggling an overpaid, unbalanced squad into the top 6 over the next couple of years and still being no closer to the league.

Spurs were bottom of the league with a similarly bloated squad chock-full of ordinary, overpaid, underperforming players when Harry Redknapp took over.

Newcastle were in the Championship with the most ridiculously over-indulged playing list ever assembled when Hughton took over.

And of course someone mentioned Blackpool.
