Just for one fucking second.

What do you want from these players? This isn't just Roy here, ignore the fact Konchesky plays. What do you want Torres, Maxi, Kuyt to do or change?

This can't all be the manager, the players must take some of the blame. Naturally some deserve it more than others, but who? Before you all do a 'Lucas is shit' post, he wasn't worse than Skrtel was last night, ditto Kuyt, Maxi etc.

So what blame do you lie at each single player, and why?

Torres lack of interest was a disgrace yesterday, he should have scored but you can forgive that if he looks like he can be arsed.

Kuyt has been terrible for a few games now and needs taking out the firing line for a few games, give Babel a run on the right or something.

The only bright spot is Raul Meireles is the main man.

I assume it's a 'how can the players improve' thread?

Hmmm, I'm still a bit lost to be honest.

I'll play;

torres - stop thinking you will be given the same time and space away as you are at home, fight for every ball. be honest with yourself nando, are you fighting as hard for the ball now as you did when you first arrived?

kuyt - stop taking so many touches, moves are breaking down as a result, if you can get away with a single touch before passing then do that. also stop running around like a headless chicken wanting to be involved in everything, all that's happening is there is no passing option in the wide position you are supposed to occupy.

maxi - when you have a sight of goal - SHOOT!

lucas - get down the gym and put on 20 pounds of muscle as you are currently easier to shrug off the ball than a 10 year old boy.

I think Skrtel deserves a mention - against Newcastle he inserted blind panic into the heart of our defence.

what can you say to skrtel though, 'learn to position yourself better'?
it's like he doesn't understand the basics.

It was yeah.

It's a criticise all you can not mentioning roy bit.

Its also dead vague, admittedly.

also, see Spidey's post. I'd imagine that should help no end.

We lost because we failed to convert our chances once again and Skrtel was the chief liability.

Nothing new there.

I've for some time been of the opinion that before we address the lack of quality in central defense it's extremely hard to start building anything.

If Ferguson or Mourinho were managing our current squad we would be in the title chase - the problem is not the squad (although it could be improved upon) the problem is we're not getting the best out of our players.

Manager: Jose Mourinho

Riena

Kelly Kyriakos Skrtel Carra

Johnson Gerrard Meireles Babel/Maxi

Cole Torres

That side with that manager would be top 3 by now.

I really don't think so. Our squad is nowhere near of a title winning quality no matter who the manager is.

You do realise that this would be the slowest defensive line to have ever entered a football pitch, right?

Micky Quinn NOW wouldnt sweat giving them the runaround.

Ignore the manager who this weekend stated "If we have ambitions of being in the top half, our away form is unacceptable."

Well lets drop those big hairy ambitions and relax with the current awayform then....

How the hell are you going to ignore the manage?

Admittedly I would prefer a bit more pace and if Agger was ever fit he would replace Skrtel but pace has never been a pre-requisite of a top defence. One of the best defences in EPL history was; Dixon - Adams - Keown - Winterburn, 2 of whom were quite slow and 2 were of average pace but they handled all types of attackers due to their organisation.

For too many years we have been weak in either or both full back positions which make our centre backs look worse than they are because they're plugging gaps all over the place. With the solidity of kelly & Carra at full back this problem might be temporarily redressed although the longer term plan would be for some new faces.

I think aside from the Chelsea game Torres has largely been an embarassment this season, some of his displays make Berbatov look like a hard working player. He really needs to cop the fuck on, hes had this huff on for the best part of a year at this stage and if a decent offer came in for him im not convinced selling would be a bad thing, his injuries mean he cant be relied upon for a whole season and he just doesnt appear to have his heart in it anymore

Maxi can fuck right off

Our defence has been a nightmare this season, with or without Carra

I don't think it's that wild a statement. The top 4/5 have been dropping points like nobody's business this year. It's wide open. Another 10 points and we'd be joint top of the league. I'm not saying we have the quality to maintain a challenge but at this stage, I see no reason why a much better manager couldn't have earned us enough points for a top four position.

Quite agree. If that squad and Pesam's team were playing to its full potential, which the likes of Mourinho or (Heaven help us) Ginsoak would make sure they did, we might not ultimately win the title but we'd be a f'ck of a lot closer to the top of the league.

This, this, this.

One of the main problems we have is reliance on Skrtel. He's just fucking shit. At least when Lucas is fucking shit it usually doesn't lead immediately to a goal or a pen. OK Wigan a couple of seasons ago it did. And then giving that free kick away against Everton and Cahill scored the header from it. And then getting sent off against Everton and costing us the game.

OK, when Lucas is shit it often costs us the points too, but Skrtel is even worse. He's fucking hopeless. He's a penalty waiting to happen. I want him dead.

Newcastle was there for the taking, thier defence was shit scared, the whole team looked shakey.

The manager picks the team, if something isn't right the manager does a tactical change (Moureen does them 1st half if neccasary) to fix the problem.

It usually takes a serious injury before our tactical genious Roy makes a change, or as in the Northampton game where we was being over run for 90 minutes, wait for extra time to make your first sub.

Roy Hodgson is a clueless mid table manager, who will never win anything.

He has his current team playing exactly like his managerial abilities Clueless and mid table.

Of course its the fucking managers fault, just look at the teams just above us and around us, and tell me we are that level?

Bolton 17 26
Sunderland 17 24
Newcastle 17 22
Liverpool 17 22
Blackpool 16 22
WBA 17 22
Stoke 17 21
Blackburn 17 21
Aston Villa 17 20

There's a lot of delusional stuff flying around at the moment. How many players from our squad would get into the teams of United, Chelsea, Arsenal or City? Torres, Gerrard and Reina. That's about it. Certainly not Joe Cole on current form. No other team in the Premier League has a player as poor as Dirk playing wide right.

Hodgson has been dealt a very bad hand. He was foolish to accept the job in the first place.

*repeats that stat about LFC having more players at the world cup than any other club side*

A lot of clubs in the Premiership is chock full of internationals. It doesn't mean much any more.
