According to Mike Jeffries on Twitter. He also says that we failed to land the chosen target, hence turning to Ian Ayre.

Bit worrying if we couldn't attract the candidate we really wanted.

Yes, very.

as a Headhunter myself I can assume it was because:

Salary was not enough

Position was not right.

If it's salary then that's worrying, as if we can't stretch the budget to get the preferred CEO candidate then where does that leave us for transfers and player wages.

If something was not right with the position and the candidate preferred to stay in the security of his current role then that's also worrying. Maybe he was concerned about owner interference? Could be a whole list of possible reasons

Anyone know who it was that turned us down?
[/quote]

QUADRASPAZ.

Apparently David Dein is one of those approached who turned the job down.

Along with Quadraspaz.

I'd say number one is the more likely reason. That and the person was probably already in a good position that he didn't particularly need to leave

Or he/she just couldn't be fuckin arsed with the hassle. Cos lets face it like it'd be a fuckin nightmare if it was just a job or career for some southern bellend with a bad tude, that needs a few slaps, to bounce in an be like 'eyar lad sort this shit out' so they should look for a beasty Liverpool based business bellend that gives an actual shit abaa the job instead becoming a supporter during his/her probation period. Like John Moores or something.

Every single person I approach for the vacancies I fill (all six figure) is in a "good position". They're all extermely ambitious individuals that will look to further their career and advance as quickly as possible, if that means changing employer then so be it. If they're 100% happy with their current role/employer then I wont put them forward regardless of how suitable they are for the position. It's the people that have concerns that I shortlist.

My concern is that the chance to work for LFC was not enough to entice external candidates away from their current employer, reasons why raise alot of questions

This.

🙁

I hope someone or real quality is brought in though; FSG cannot afford to be penny wise but pound foolish.

Say you were a top jockey in business and also a passionate red - and you were offered you this job, you'd ring Parry and Purslow and ask what it's like, and they'd say 'The fans are a bunch of cunts and hound you out of your job from day one. I don't even want to go back and watch the match there now'.

Most people at this level have enough faith in their ability not to be daunted by the challenge....

The guy was keen on the move. One of the biggest movers and shakers in the game from one of the biggest clubs in the world but the package wasn't enough.

Bean-spillage is required, sir !

Was he being exceptionally unreasonable with his demands?

Shame if he was our #1 target and a genuinely top candidate.

you can't penny pinch at that level, especially if we want to move forward.

We could have used this to show intent, for the owners of their intentions to compete both on and off the pitch.

Poor decision if true.

That's a bit of a meaningless thing to say. Going on that theory, there'd be no ceiling for wages at all - and there always is, everywhere, in every job.

If this is true then it means either:

a) His demands were unrealistic (ie "I'm on £3m a year, I want £6m" - clearly that's an unrealistic jump to expect)

b) His demands were reasonable, but it was the club that refused to meet him

So we only had 1 specific target with no other candidates/options? Or Ian Ayre just happened to be the one 2nd in the running?

Unlikely. He's hardly a mover and shaker these days.

No he werent that's why he's temping. Think he got the job thru Reed.co.uk

DBP should well let Henry Cigar Massive Baseball Ring Finger know he's a headhunter. A real headhunter that hunts for 6 figures. An get this shit headhunted and sorted.

I've yet to see Mike Jefferies being right about anything, and wouldn't have belived any of it until I saw Seans post.

Still, it sounds very strange if we only have one candidate for the job. That part can't be right.
