I wanNaby (Under the sea in an Octopus's Garden in the Shade) - Deal Confirmed

All this tells us is that we need much better scouts / scouting systems.
There are obviously players out there, like Keita (who no one had fucking heard of last year) who can be had this year too.
But why would we ever think of spending a couple of million to overhaul our scouting network when we can just (a) buy from Southampton, (b) unsuccessfully go after every cunt that every other top 6 team wants, or (c) just spend 60 million on Naby fucking Keita?

Kante cost half that 12 months ago. After proving himself to be an excel DM. In England. For the fucking champions. Get to fuck with 60 or 70 million.
Besides his release clause how much do you think Kante would cost today ? £50-60-70M ? In that range for sure. Just because most people hadn't heard of Keita before last season doesn't mean he's not on or close to that level. Clearly, after all his accolades for his outstanding performance in the BL this past season, he is.

This is exactly the type of player we are able to get .. those not yet having achieved world-rated status but are on their way there. Because we are not going to get established world stars .. even at £70m (which I would still baulk at paying for Keita though). To balance that though he is 22 yrs old and even if he 'only' stays at his current level that would mean 8-9 yrs cemented in our midfield.

Keita is the same as Kante, only with better attacking. If Klopp wants him, pay whatever is needed.

I must say - that is some statement. I've seen next to nothing of this guy, but the little I have and the reports you read state he's clearly pretty fucking decent. To say though that he's a better version of Kante is a lofty declaration.

Reactions: HC
I say he's better because I'm basing it on his all round game from what I've seen (approx 10 games this season). Defensively I'd still rate Kante better but Keita has what Kante doesn't and that's offensive play in his game. Overall I would prefer Keita due to the fact he can do both really well.

Would Manure have been the same club in the 90s had they decided to wait on Roy Keane and not pay the fee?
I'm not saying Keita is Keane, nor am I saying he could be the cog in a long dominant spell for us, but if this is the player that Klopp wants to be our midfield general and he thinks he will take us to the next level, it's better we get him.
We have one of the top managers in the world - let's give him the tools to have the chance to succeed.

Looks a class act here. Don't care how much. If Klopp wants him just get him.

Wow! That's very impressive. Admittedly it's a compilation which only shows his top moments, yet some of the stuff there is mouthwatering.
Our #8 shirt is vacant, and I have a feeling that a certain Steven G, would approve Keita wearing it.

I find it amusing how much gnashing of teeth is going on over the fee.

We want the best players, getting Klopp was supposed to help with that, but that only goes so far, we still can't afford the very very best if we want to build a squad not just a first team, & the elite players want Spain, London, or a huge salary to offset the fact they need to live near Manchester, none of which we can offer.

So we are basically left with the best of the rest, those players that we think are a step or two away from that elite status that would render them out of our league.

Also, in this particular case we're trying to buy from a cash rich club, who don't seem to particularly want to sell.

Doesn't look viable, unfortunately.

'No way' Naby Keita will join Liverpool this summer, but next year ..?

Respected German journalist Oliver Hartmann gives his verdict on Reds transfer target - and it's not good news

Naby Keita is a class act, but Liverpool will fail in their bid to sign the RB Leipzig midfielder this summer.
That's the opinion of Oliver Hartmann, chief reporter and Leipzig correspondent for respected German sports magazine Kicker.
Hartmann watched Keita take the Bundesliga by storm last season and isn't surprised that Jurgen Klopp is keen to secure his services.
However, he explained to the ECHO why he believes the Guinea international will stay put during the transfer window.
Do you think Leipzig will agree to sell Keita to Liverpool this summer?
No way.
There has been some speculation in Germany that it might take a bid of 80million Euros to get the deal done.....
Ralf Rangnick (Leipzig's sporting director) said that he will not sell any major player this summer. And a 'no' from Rangnick means 'no'. Keita can leave next year for approximately 55million Euros. He has a clause in his contract
Is it more difficult for Liverpool to get Keita now that UEFA have ruled that Leipzig are free to compete in the Champions League?
The major point this summer is that Leipzig don't need the money because they have Red Bull. But they need Keita and (Emil) Forsberg for success.
Has Keita himself given any indication whether he wants to stay at Leipzig or pursue a new challenge at Anfield?
Keita told journalists after the match between Guinea and Algeria three weeks ago that he accepted the fact that Leipzig won't let him go. He said: “I know that many clubs are interested. I want to play Champions League and Leipzig will play Champions League.”

  • Verdict on Naby Keita
For those who didn't see him much for Leipzig last season, how good was he? What are his main strengths?
He is with Forsberg and (Timo) Werner the most important player in the squad.
He is technically and physically very strong. Many people were surprised that he played so well in his first season in a major league.
Kicker voted him the best and most important player over the season in the position of central midfield.
What about any interest in Keita from other clubs? Are Bayern Munich still keen on him?
[bcolor=transparent]Bayern were interested and I think they will try to catch him next year. They know that this summer there is no chance.
He's only had one year in the Bundesliga. Would it be a gamble for Liverpool to shatter their transfer record for someone who is still relatively inexperienced?
No, I don't think it would be a gamble. For sure he would be well suited to the Premier League. But Leipzig don't need the money.[/bcolor]

Also, if we wait until clubs are crawling over each other to offer him a contract, his agent will be able to negotiate a massive wage hike on what we'll offer to pay him this year. Over the course of the contract it could add up to a significant percentage of the difference between the cost this year and the cost next year.

Purely wage difference of what we could offer him this year vs next year, assuming an additional 70k per week next year, would add up to only about 3-4 million per year. I believe his real impact would be that he could make us a PL title challenger and that's where his real value to the clubs finances would lie in addition to the sporting aspect of signing him this year. All of this is basis a few highlight clips i have seen of him.

The Germans do love there clauses. We had similar situation last year with dahoud. If we don’t sigh this this this summer, we will miss the boat on this on.

Yeah, 4m a year over 4 years is 16m. That's not far off the difference in 70m this year and 52m next.

I know those youtube clips are highlights but he really does look awesome.
I am well on board the train

Yeah i did not take into account all 4 years of the contract. As for the fee is concerned i believe its 80m this year and 52m next year. The buyout is 52/53m Euros if i recall correctly.

The buyout is 58m euro and the fee is meant to be £70m this year. So as I say, not a vast difference over the life of the contract.
