This saga is turning me bipolar with the amount of highs and lows I've gotten off every bit of update.

If I'm the shot caller at the next club we decide to raid I'd ask for 60 mill even if it's fucking Conor Coady we're signing

Yeah, he'll be gone next summer for 48 mill £, if he doesnt end up leaving now.

But if his presence secures them CL for next season and helps them progress in a few cups or CL then it has been more than worth keeping him.

Indeed mate, are we packing up the camp site then? Or are we staying a few more days just for the hell of it?

This is the deal I really want this summer, but it's looking like the tide is turning against it. If there hasn't been another serious development by the end of the week I'd say we've walked away.

Surely to keep making offers, we are getting some encouragement from someone, somewhere.
You'd have thought so, the optimist would say this is a game of poker between the clubs, RBL are making this as public as possible to extract the biggest fee possible, using strong language to panic us into launching as big a bid as possible. The realist would say they don't want to sell, and they're using our bid as a way to prove to their fan base and other clubs that they are indeed a big club that won't roll over.

Ok, I hate to say it or suggest they do it, but the only way we're going to get anywhere this summer is if the players we want, turn into cunts and go on strike. I'd be fuming if it was one of ours doing it, but what else can we do, if they do want to come, and the clubs wont play ball with fair offers for them. VVD isn't a 60mill player, and Keita isn't a 75mill one, so if we're offering that then we've done all we can from our end.

Liverpool fail with fresh £66m bid for Keïta

Liverpool have had a second bid worth £66 million rejected by RB Leipzig for Naby Keïta as the German club forcefully reiterated that the player is not for sale.
The club record offer equates to €75 million and would have been five times the amount Leipzig paid Red Bull Salzburg for Keïta last summer.
Liverpool’s previous bid of £57 million had also been rebuffed and the Bundesliga side’s position remains strident over the Guinea international, who is keen to play under Jürgen Klopp.
“We don’t sell any of our players just to get money,” RB Leipzig owner Dietrich Mateschitz told German magazine Sportbild. “Lately we got a €75 million offer for Naby Keïta. No way! He has a contract and he will accomplish it.
“To sell him would not only be a proof of distrust to our fans but also the wrong sign for our players like Timo Werner, who is in demand too.”

Mateschitz’s comments reflect Leipzig’s overall intransigence with sporting director Ralf Rangnick having been similarly vocal in maintaining that the player will remain at the club ahead of a first Champions League campaign.
Liverpool have alternative options to Keïta, but manager Klopp has said he would only abandon the chase reluctantly. In contrast, Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk, another target Liverpool are trying to lure to Anfield, is the only centre back they are interested in.
Meanwhile, Kevin Stewart, the Liverpool midfielder, has left the club’s pre-season preparations in Hong Kong to return to England and sign for Hull City.
The deal is worth around £5.5 million, rising to £8 million, and comes with Liverpool in talks with the Championship side for left back Andrew Robertson.
Stewart, 23, is moving for first-team football having become swamped by the competition for places at Anfield. He made nine appearances last season for Klopp’s side, including four in the Premier League.
The transfer represents good business for Liverpool, who are paying an initial £8 million for the Scotland international Robertson who would provide competition with James Milner.
Liverpool had looked at the likes of Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy and Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon, but the attack-minded Robertson is likely to complete his move over the coming days.
England Under-20 World Cup winner Sheyi Ojo now has the choice of loan moves to Derby County, Fulham and Middlesbrough. Derby manager Gary Rowett watched Ojo in a friendly against Tranmere Rovers last week and wants to sign him for the season.

Indeed mate, are we packing up the camp site then? Or are we staying a few more days just for the hell of it?

The VVD camp is a calling I think. But I'm not sure this is over. The only thing that changes the equation stated above is if they feel Keita is going to be a massive pain in the arse, and make his discontent clear, and perhaps even become a lesser player. For Keita to make this clear translates to us offering to bung his agent loads of cash. If his agent was his mate, he'd tell him to hang tight, and that next season with the automatic transfer clause he'll have his pick of clubs and be able to negotiate an amazing contract. So we're basically banking on his agent being an unscrupulous bastard I guess. And given he's an agent....

There is also the Graeme argument, that Leipzig are engaging in a pantomime for the sake of their fans and the whole thing is a charade.

Yeah, I'm desperate and deluded enough to hang here for a time.

So who are the alternatives? Goretzka? Milinkovic-Savic? Or someone more attack minded, like Lemar?

Like I said earlier in this thread, we have enough midfield options. If the idea was to significantly upgrade midfield quality, and if Keita was the only player Klopp wanted, then it's best to wait a year till his release clause kicks in next summer. No point signing an alternative just for the heck of it. It's not like we have a gaping hole in midfied. Henderson, Can, Wijnaldum, Grujic, Coutinho, Lallana. 6 options for 3 midfield slots. Perhaps none of them are world class, but they're all well above-average.

Meanwhile, go all out for an A grade striker this season. Aubameyang, Mbappe whoever. We'd have a top 5 attack in Europe if we did that.

Yeah, I think a mini camp in both the VVD and Keita site is on the cards.

According to Graeme, the club was encouraged by RBL to bid 66 mill as that would be enough to get him, but it got rejected, leaving them very surprised.
He's either full of shite (very likely), or RBL hav been taking us for a ride while enjoying the spotlight or the supposed Utd interest have changed their minds about what fee they will accept.

Schalke have been adament that Goreztka wont leave, but seeing as they'll lose him for free next summer a deal could maybe be done there.
Not sure about Milinkovic-Savic, as I havent seen enough of him. But Lolito is fucking insane, and they'll want crazy money for him.

Well we've definitely been linked with Savic. What's good about him is that he gives us height. But the extraordinary mobility of Keita is obviously not being replaced.

Aka you need to spend x over €75m to get him.

This is on, it'll be lukaka money me thinks

We score enough goals while conceding too many. Surely spending upwards of £70m on a forward makes little sense when we have a VVD (or someone equally as good) shaped hole at the back.

Keita for 70 million was always being signed in addition to VVD.

I'm simply talking about replacing Keita with a striker now.

We obviously need to sign a CB.
