I wonder how much it would take to turn his head. You'd like to think he's another Gerrard but they're few and far between 🙁

He wasn't born in the City, he was bought from another club (QPR) so its hardly right to even start comparing on those factors.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Liverpool halted Michael Owen's potential as a footballer, suggesting that the Anfield club played the forward too often without allowing him to develop technically.
The Stoke striker joined the Red Devils in 2009 after his contract at Newcastle expired but his three-year spell at Old Trafford was dogged by injury problems.

And the United manager feels that the 32-year-old could have been a better player had he been given the chance to develop as a player without the demands of constant games at Anfield early in his career.

"You can play too much football, particularly young players growing and developing physically," he told reporters.

STOKE CITY LATE
"That's exactly what happened with Michael. He would've been a far better player if he'd been allowed to improve technically and develop rather than playing all the time."

The former Liverpool fan favourite scored 118 goals in just 216 league games at Anfield, yet managed just 31 Premier League games in three years for Ferguson's side.

Ferguson used the 1997 World Youth Championship in Malaysia as an example of pressure put on Owen's shoulders as a 17-year-old, telling The S*n: "When the England youth team played in that tournament in Malaysia we had two players in the tournament at the same time, [John] Curtis and [Ronnie] Wallwork.

"We gave them a month's rest after they came back from the tournament but Liverpool put Owen right back in the first team. And then the following season he played in the World Cup so he never had a summer break.

"I don't think he was allowed to develop technically, as he himself said to me when I discussed it with him.

"It's maybe a bit churlish to say that's the reason he wasn't better. I think he would have been better technically but he was still a fantastic player."

I love the "It's maybe a bit churlish" line. Well spotted, Ginsoak, and in THAT paper as well, you old charmer, but a bit redundant seeing as everything that comes out of that gob of yours is churlish. Sadly, though, he's probably right, and I do hope we give Sterling enough chances to rest and get refreshed. What Ginsoak ignores about Owen was he'd fight against any attempt to rest him, and Sterling is probably the same, as at that age they think they're indestructible and they love every minute of it, but they do need a break.

Fergie is right on this occasion, we massively over played him & it cost him.
Indeed, but Michael Owen was a lot more important to Liverpool than Ronnie Wallwork and John Curtis were to Man U.
The resting of those two players was obviously a great boost to their careers.
And how did he manage Rooney when he was still in his teens by the way?
He doesn't miss an opportunity to have a knock at our club, the obsessed old cunt

He's right.

Many of us have said it many times down the years. It's fairly naff to suddenly say it now, though, but typical of the man. But I posted it because we do need to remember this when bringing on Sterling.

We should have kept Collymore around for two more years.

So John Curtis and Ronnie Wallwark developed into better players than Owen thanks to a months rest in 1997 is it?
So Balon D'ors a plenty for those two then? Musta missed that.

So that comparison works a treat.
What about the too much too young comparison?

Owen @ 17 - 29 appearances
Owen @ 18 - 33 appearances
Owen @ 19 - 33 appearances

Ronaldo.C @ 17 - 31 appearances
Ronaldo.C @ 18 - 29 appearances
Ronaldo.C @ 19 - 33 appearances.

Is it possible that Wallwork and Curtis got a months rest because they were shit?
And that if you have a world class player you probably play them as much as you see fit given you pay then 50k a week.
How about Fergie and Owen fuck off and bum each other.
Cunts.

YAY, Andy posted! Woop woop!

*happy*

In 1998 Owen played 44 games in total for us 36 league games.
During the same year he played 12 games for England and played in the world cup. That makes it 56 games at 17/18 years old. Source Wiki.

I'm not trying to defend Fergie but Owen himself complains now that he was over played. I bet he didn't complain back then though.

Which is pretty much what I said! We have a duty of care with Sterling and we really need to monitor him carefully and err on the side of caution.

Playing him for 80 mins + in a meaningless friendly against Sweden was one of the things I'd let him sit out tbh.

Liverpool FC, Raheem Sterling
LIVERPOOL FC’s teenage superstar Raheem Sterling was interviewed by police over an alleged attack on a woman.
The 17-year-old LFC winger, from Woolton, was quizzed by detectives under caution following reports of an assault on Friday, November 2.
Sterling, who made his England debut against Sweden last week, has not been arrested and Merseyside police said investigations were continuing.
A spokeswoman said: “Merseyside Police can confirm that a 17-year-old male, from the Woolton area was interviewed under caution, following a report of an assault on Friday, November 2.
“A 27-year-old woman received slight injuries during the incident in the Liverpool 8 area.
"At this time, the investigation is ongoing and no formal action has been taken.”

This morning Liverpool FC declined to comment on the police interview of Sterling.
The winger, born in Kingston, Jamaica, was signed by Rafael Benítez in February 2010 from Queen’s Park Rangers, for a reported initial fee of £600,000.
Sterling’s stunning form since making his Liverpool debut eight months ago earned him an England call up by Roy Hodgson.
He is the youngest international in LFC history.
