I am the same guy who nearly won us the league, but better

Agger was a moany gobshite anyway, every time he spent months out injured, he'd get a pissy on and threaten to leave because he didn't get straight back in the team. The same player who's barely pulling up trees back at Brøndby.

I'll forever be thankful for him elbowing Torres, but he's one of the most overrated players to ever wear a Liverpool shirt. Thank fucking Christ we don't have to listen to idiots pouring adoration over his forward play, because he scored a great goal once against West Ham.

I really miss watching those raking 40 yard Hollywood passes going out of play.

Overrated eh, yeah right. Agger and Skrtel didn't lose a single game when they started together the 13/14 season in the league. They started something like 15 games together. Dropped only two points.

You can draw your own conclusions but since Agger left our build up play from the back have been shit.

The defender that tried to make a lot of Hollywood passes was Carragher. Agger was a master at the short passing game.

Agger was only ever good enough when he had Carra or Sami next to him. This applies to Skrtel too.

Our defence only looked good enough under Rodgers when he bombed Agger out of the side and recalled Carra. It hasn't looked good really at any other time in Rodgers time as manager.

I doubt that it is a coincidence that Chelsea started to play a lot worse after Mourinho benched Terry. Terry isn't a brilliant player but no doubt he is the boss in the dressing room, not Mourinho.

I doubt that Rodgers is the boss in the dressing room and probably never been that.

Chelsea have played like shit this year - w or w/o Terry. Crap against Swansea, City and Brom.

I'm baffled by Rodgers and his man-management skills. Some players swear he's great at that, but to have one player claim he's 'lied' to them is not too surprising, but to have two (Suarez, according to Gerrard's book), or three (Carroll, according to that interview he did), or maybe even four (Gerrard, sort of?) is getting a bit, well, iffy. And for a manager with that reputation for being a great man-manager, Rodgers seems to have alienated quite a few. Has he been advised to take a step back, give his staff more of a hands-on role and be more, well, 'managerial'? I guess that's a possibility this season, which could perhaps tie-in with the stories of him seeming more aloof and coming into the changing room fairly late. He certainly needs the players on his side, so if I was him I'd plan a bit of bonding asap.

Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, believes the injuries to Daniel Sturridge cost his club a top four place and a trophy last season.
• Rodgers is wrong - former players support him
Amid the contentious remarks regarding the ‘hysteria’ surrounding the Merseyside club this season, Rodgers made a salient point about the availability of the England striker. Liverpool have won less than half their Premier League games played without Sturridge since he joined the club two and a half years ago.
The performance against Aston Villa on Saturday – when Sturridge scored twice in a 3-2 win - underlined how much the 26-year-old has been missed and how different the last 16 months would have been had he been available.

Sturridge scored a blinder on Saturday
Rodgers agreed it cost Liverpool a Champions League place and a cup. “Yes. Because he is in that elite band of player that we’ve seen here,” said Rodgers.
“We’ve seen here the brand of football we can create when we have that talent available. He played a massive part in that, so if he stays fit and others come into the reckoning we can piece together an exciting team again. Those players make the difference.”

For Rodgers, losing Sturridge so soon after the sale of Luis Suarez is the equivalent of Barcelona being deprived of Lionel Messi and Suarez for a year, or Real Madrid being expected to perform to the same levels without Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
“We haven’t scored three goals since he (Sturridge) last started a game,” said Rodgers.
“He gives you a big opportunity to win games and compete at the top end of the table. He is a fantastic talent and now the job is hopefully he can stay fit. It's not rocket science.”
The statistics underline the point.

Since Sturridge joined Liverpool in January 2013, his side has won 61 per cent of the fixtures in which he has played. In fact, in his 57 league appearances he has been on the losing side just eight times. Most of those occasions he was alongside Suarez.
Contrast this to Liverpool without the 26-year-old.
Liverpool have won just 20 of their 43 league games when Sturridge was injured, equating to a win rate of 46.5 per cent. The Suarez and Sturridge partnership yielded such a goalscoring rate, Liverpool struck 131 goals in the England man’s 57 appearances. In the 43 fixtures he has not played, they’ve managed just 66.

Sturridge's return offers Rodgers hope, but the Merseyside derby will offer a greater clue as to whether Liverpool have rediscovered their form. They must face Sion of Switzerland in the Europa League first.
Rodgers has a selection dilemma. Sturridge’s importance could see him rested again, but Danny Ings has been just as important in the last few fixtures.

So what's his reason for putting out a shit team for the Madrid away fixture and treating it like a carling cup game? Prick

I can imagine spending time with Rodgers would be painful. Like David Brent...the more time he spends team building and socializing the more annoying he becomes. Respect would evaporate quickly... Imagine...regular self indulgent 'witty' quips, overly enthusiastic high fives and inappropriate touching and stroking followed by awkward close talking and intense eyeball fucking. His best chance is to go full blown Mr fucking T on these overpaid immature shitheads. He's the boss... He doesn't need them to be his buddies...just play football and win games.

Of course missing Studge was a huge loss, but it's unfair to lump it all on him. When you have a defence as tight as a cheap colander you'll never win anything of note. And that, dear Mr. R, is down to you and your team.

I think he will survive this season and possibly leave under the guise of 'mutual consent' next summer. I can imagine hes the type that will want to leave in his own terms, heck he will probably take a hit on the compo just to say it was him needing a break

Sadly I see this happening too if the current pattern continues. We'll have a decent run but stutter like last season again but judging by the owners lack of noise, he'll most likely stay.

*As the Tony Barrett chat shows though, the baseball season is up this Sunday and FSG might have more wiggle room to think about us after that so things could change soon too. At least I hope they'll rethink the administrative side of things (club ambition. DoF, CEO,MD etc) even if they don't sack Rodgers.

Bringing a DOF in might well end up seeing him off anyway, if he maintains his previous response to the idea.

I'm not convinced that the lack of public reaction from FSG is significant. They don't strike me as public washers of dirty linen and I don't think we (or Rodgers) can reliably read anything into their silence. If, as has been suggested before now, they were expecting a strong performance from the start of this season and would not be prepared to accept Rodgers' previous pattern of only getting the team fully up to speed in the New Year, streaky victories like last Saturday's aren't going to be enough even if we start seeing more of them.

I still think Rodgers and the club could have bought him some time wth the fans in the run-up to this season if they'd just shown a bit of imagination. For all of Jen Chang's ignominious downfall, he was the last PR person at the club who actually showed a bit of nous in this social media era. The last time the club (at Chang's suggestion) arranged for Rodgers to meet some forum organisers and fans, he charmed them - most of them - and made many of them disciples for quite some time. I bet, if the club had done something similar this time around, Rodgers would still have won round quite a few, especially the Anfield Wrap-style nerds, who love having their egos stroked, and the mood, going into the season, would have been much better. A bit of humility, a bit of candour, and plenty of passion and positivity with the fans about the future, a deft mixture of vulnerability and conviction, and, buoyed by a plethora of upbeat 'we're all in this together' podcasts, forum articles and tweets, he could have gone into the season with his head down and his mouth shut, knowing he'd have a few vocal supporters urging faith and patience. As it is, nothing was even tried, Rodgers was just told to be more aloof, and now he's snapping back into the old garrulous mode. We're so amateurish it's laughable.

It's not laughable though is it. It's a fundamental need to get right for a high profile organization. Americans can be very good at PR, it's a mystery that we seem unable to get the basics right.

Yep. One of the things we surely expected of American owners like FSG is that they'd be great at PR. They WERE for a couple of years - they were always savvy with appearances and announcements - but then they went quiet. It seemed symbolic of a general loss of interest.

I don't think the end of the Baseball season makes a difference for a couple of reasons. The Red Sox season has been over for a while now and they've made their changes.

Also because Henry doesn't have a day to day role in the Red Sox.

And he's the only one with a bigger FSG shareholding than Mike Gordon who has a day to day role in LFC

Mmmm get your point but in the aftermath of a 3-1 defeat at home to CP and a 6-1 defeat I am not sure a meeting with the fans would have been such a great idea. That and the fact that Rodgers doesn't really do humility does he.

Well, as the cliche goes, at least he can fake it sometimes. I think those occasions with fans are him at his best - he's enthusiastic, he's eager to explain, he engages with them as equals, and he becomes, in effect, the positive forumite par excellence. For all the hardened cynicism of many fans, being brought inside and chatted to by the manager is still quite a high, and it personalises the issues - it makes Rodgers seem at his most human, his most sympathetic. He might have needed to bite his tongue and take ten minutes or so of criticism, before starting his mea culpa and statement of fresh intent, but it would have been cathartic. True, this time it might not have worked well enough, but was there a better option? His image was really awful. His standing with fans was at a very low point. Why not try it? Or why not try something? I guess the only other option the club would've considered was a big interview, but fans don't buy that any more. In terms of making Rodgers' position genuinely viable at the start of this season, I just think they needed to act and encourage the fans to change their mood and alter their perspective of him.

Take the awful Balotelli leaks. Instead of doing that directly via the media, if Rodgers had sat with the fan reps, mug of tea in hand, sat back and said, 'Let me confide in you a bit about some of the stuff we had to put up with last season behind the scenes...' Then a few Balo stories, a few Sterling snippets, a bit about injuries, a bit about transfers, etc etc... The fans then go back to their sites, loving the fact they've been privvy to such gossip, and start tapping noses, saying, 'Can't tell you lot everything, but...' It boosts their egos, changes the arguments (slightly? significantly? who can tell) and almost certainly makes Rodgers' perspective - to some extent - easier for the fans to identify with, or at least sympathise with. And all of that accomplished for some purpose, under the official media radar, instead of the club planting stupid stories in the Echo that don't help anyone and probably alienate supporters more than ever.
