How do you solve a problem like our left back?

What is everyone's thought on our bogey of a position, we havent had a solid dependable LB for some time. Do people want a left back brought in? Or would people be happy to give Johnson the spot as he has played very well there under Kenny? A Johnson and Robinson 1 and 2 would save money and help blood a potentially very good youngster in, or would you rather we spent £7-£10 million on a new left back a la Enrique or Izaguirre?

Kelly is injury prone, Aurelio is a waste of space and neither Flannagan nor Robinson are really ready yet.

I don't think we can really go into a new season with one recognized senior fullback. We need to buy a LB (but hopefully not from the names you mentioned).

Is Kelly really injury-prone? I know he's out at the moment, but I'm not sure he's earned that tag yet (though Aurelio certainly is an absence waiting to happen). Flanagan and Robinson are good enough as stand-ins IMO.

Incidentally many seem to assume that Magic can't be a long-term solution on the left, and I don't see why. Of course we should improve in any position if we can, but Magic's done really well at LB so I reckon that's a pretty big "if". Put it this way - we have FAR higher priorities elsewhere.

Buy a new one muthafucka!

The man who will solve our LB worries for years to come.
His name starts with "F" and his surname starts with a "C" and it's not Fabio Capello.

I think Kelly has had long spells out in 3 of the last four seasons. Something like that. It may be a growing pains thing as it was with Gerrard to some extent, but do we really want to take the risk?

Either way, going into the season with a CB/RB playing at RB and a RB playing at LB with your only alternative options being two kids doesn't fill me with confidence.

What if one of them gets injured for three months through a bad tackle? We're forced into playing Flannagan for that period?

I know he's come in and done okay in the last few games, but I don't think he's ready / good enough to hold his own.

Cissokho for me. Strong athletic and capable

Good shout.

I'd have no problem in trusting the young lads who's already shown what they are capable of in that position.

Perhaps get in Oscar Wendt on a free transfer. He's a footballer and would enjoy Kenny's style and approach.

Done.

Mavinga will be back in the summer. Not saying he's the answer but he's a good prospect. I say buy a shit hot one, Contrao is my shout.

No way.

The logical thing to do is to sell Aurelio and bring in a new LB to compete for the position.

I no longer think we should spend too highly on the position any more, because it's not a big a priority as it used to be.

I just think we need a quality left footer there.

Flanaghan never kicked it once on his left last night, he always kept coming inside

Enrique will do me or Aurellio with someone elses fitness coach

I hope Aurelio is ready for it.
Tag-teamed by Enrique and the fitness coach.

If we're going to buy an LB then we need to geta top quality one; there's no point getting in someon who'd just 'improve' us since it's doubtful how much more of a improvementi t would be over the status quo.
