But surely they couldn't do that if we appeal not against the fact that Cole's tackle was deemed a foul, but against the fact that he got a red rather than a yellow.

I'm not sure you can dispute the referees interpretation of a foul. The other problem is, even if the FA don't add an extra game to the ban the appeal could take a few days to be heard - this could make JC available for the City game but unavailable then against United......I'd rather have him available against United.

I would rather have him for City, I think they are much more beatable than United, at this moment in time.

I'm not so certain that he has proven to be an integral part of our first choice XI, that i'd be sweating his absence in any particular game. We should appeal the decision regardless. It was a very harsh decision and we have every right to appeal.

I think Sagna's ugly mug made the refs mind up.
[/quote]

Which is doubly galling as that f'cking scarecrow was bear-hugging a Liverpool player every time the ball went in their box, and could - should - have given away a couple of pens.

If we don't appeal, is it still a 1 game suspenison? Not 3?

Straight red card, but the foul was nowhere near a long banish type of sending off.
I thought it was only a bookable offence to be honest myself.

Maybe we were the first casualty of the referee's new found protection of Arsenal, due to the horrific injuries they've received over the years. But i'd like a little bit of consistency across the whole premiership. If you take Craddock's challenge on Kenwyne Jones where he scissored him from behind, not only did he get away with a red card, he got away without conceding a foul. And now Jones will endure a lengthy lay-off, while Koscielny strolled out for the second half.

Liverpool will be without Joe Cole for three matches after the Anfield club decided not to appeal against the red card that their summer signing received against Arsenal.

The former Chelsea star's Premier League debut for the Reds was ruined on Sunday when he was controversially sent off shortly before half-time in the eventual 1-1 draw with the Gunners.

Cole was adjudged to have committed a foul that was worthy of an instant dismissal by referee Martin Atkinson when the playmaker challenged Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny.

Replays suggested that the 28-year-old was unfortunate to have been shown a straight red card and Liverpool manager Roy Hodgsonspoke of that belief in his post-match interview.

Hodgson said that the club would consider appealing on Cole's behalf, but the ex-Fulham boss was also wary of their plea being deemed frivolous by the authorities.

The Football Association has since confirmed that Liverpool have decided not to appeal and will therefore be without Cole for their Premier League matches against Manchester City,West Brom and Birmingham.

But the England midfielder will be available for Thursday's Europa League play-off round first leg with Trabzonspor and the second leg the following week.

so we lost points yesterday. and we'll probably drop points in the next three games because of this. it took him less then 45mins to fuck our season

i hope on the way to his next job his fucking blindness causes him to misjudge the position of an oncoming truck. even then the loss of his life would not even begin to compare with the damage he has done and will continue to do.

There is a limit to over reaction.

For fucks sake...

are you talking about me, or the referee, or the arsenal player going off on a strecher, or the length of the ban?

well if i had made the tackle instead, what do you think the referee would do? he'd think about the consequences and whether it was worth taking the risk of even blowing for a foul. never mind a fucking red card

that's why i have serious issues, because it helps the people on my team to win.

Our bad luck with sending offs continues. Karma is fucking us for Alonso's last season.
