His reputation preceedes him!?

What I don't understand is this, the linesmen are not linesmen any more, they are called assistant referees , presumably to reflect their increased responsibilities of not just worrying about lines and offsides, so whilst I agree with Ryan - if he is saying it is just human error and to err is human, which is correct, but there are far too many errs, and it seems to me to be getting worse. That could just be technology getting better that allows me to see it.
Anyway, I digress, the ref is not out there on his own, all three of them should have seen Suarez getting raped in the box so why did they not pipe up? The answer is they hardly ever do. Just like those two extra useless fuckers they have on the goal line in the Europa League, what do they ever do.
If it is a case of give a dog a bad name and they are having a go at Suarez, even sub-consciously surely that is not right, if he simulates he gets a card so that is the punishment not deciding to turn a blind eye as they think he cheats, that is worse than that which they accuse him of.

A great point actually.

They've got away with doing fuck all for too long and I'm surprised this hasn't been picked up upon.

* No linesman on that side
* players possibly blocking refs view.

It's a difficult decision. That's my verdict. Also it would have possibly been given if there was a fifth official close to the goal.

The linesman on the other touch line would have had a completely clear view of it

Not sure if it was that clear to him since the other Norwich defender seems to be blocking his view as well. Anyway, you win some you lose some. I'd rather we didn't win games on penalties.

I don't give a fuck how we win games, sadly I am not a football purist like you Modod
heh...
I'm not gonna hide the fact that I'm loving the way we're playing nowadays and that someone finally listened to my constant harping about acquiring creative and technical players. When we scored that second goal against WBA I was ecstatic.
Was also delighted to see Pacheco and Assaidi feature in Soccer AM's latest showboat compilation.

Every Tom, Dick and Modo want's us to sign creative and technical player's. It's not as if you've stumbled upon some mystifying revolutionary idea.

I've been harping on about us playing with a goal keeper and ten out field players and finally someone listened.

Just joshing Modooooo.
Yeah I know.
I'm not really sure how to put it though, I guess I wanted more dribblers and less Downings, Hendersons and Carrolls. So to see them replaced with Suso, Sterling and Assaidi is just fantastic.

And Fabs your love for Downing has not been forgotten.

I'm sure Brendan Rodgers and his staff are on here daily hanging on Modos every word

Then you're missing the point Modo, where's the fucking linesman? Whether he sees it and doesn't give it, or isn't even there equates to the same thing, he's not doing his job.

No, because flash football bollocks is everything. Neil would love our new regime of attacking fullbacks on the halfway line, and would probably come to a similar conclusion, that he'd rather see us lose that way than win ugly. It's a moot point, United have been garbage so far but have still done everything they can in games to win. While I don't particularly want to see anyone have the influence they do, their the ones who'll be in the top three and thanks in small part to a few dubious decisions, no question.

You've made some strange statements but this one is right up there. Are you telling me you are happier we lost to utd than perhaps drawing had we got the penalty?

Surely he isnt there (on that side) because he was running the line for the Liverpool half of the pitch. The linesman on the nearside probably was "there", out of picture, but may well have had his view blocked by covering defenders by the time the assault happened.

Only playing devils advocate here, as I am a fully paid up member of the conspiracy theory group, and did once own a Corrs CD

I don't think it's unreasonable for referees to allow factors such as past behaviour to come into the decision making process. After all, the human eye has it's limits.

The problem is that there seems to be no decent feedback loop or lessons learned. The media and popular opinion do play their part and rather than try and suppress that we should try and work with it. Referees should get together as a group regularly and re-evaluate their decisions, the process behind them and question any biases they have.

I'm sure that if that feedback loop was fair (and even better public) then in cases such as Suarez we'd be able to counter popular opinion with evidence that he has cleaned up his act markedly and defenders are taking advantage of his 'reputation'.

The problem with the 'Respect' campaign isn't the players or the managers. It's the lack of transparency and accountability of the refs. The best way for refs to get more respect is to stop hiding behind excuses and create a public forum in which it's accepted that mistakes get made, things don't even out over the course of the season and grievances can be properly aired.

It will never happen though for the same reasons the football associations are resisting the introduction of technology - the drama and injustice is good for the sport and openness will make it harder for them to fiddle things behind the scenes (which we know happens in Italy and Spain and would have to be incredibly naive to think doesn't happen here in England).

Halsey hasnt gotten any punishment for his performance I'm guessing, and neither has Mike Jones for some of his decisions.

The quality of the referees in the Premier League is horrendous though. It beggers belief that in the worlds richest league assistant referees are still part timers that earn 600 £ a game.
600£ for a few hours work is fucking great.

I'd take it of course, but I'd rather we play them off the park and not rely on reffing decisions.
Also....what GK said.
