OK, conspiracy theory time...
That first goal we scored... it does kinda look like Johnston got a touch on it before it crossed the line.
Hmm...
The club's all-time leading goalscorer, has in that case only scored a total of 345 goals in all comps for us...

*twilight zone tune*

I remember the commentary at the time: "The referee .... (big pause, in which I was thinking he was going to say that the goal was disallowed due to Johnston being offside) ... has been knocked over in the excitement".
Highlights do show that the back-pass rule has improved the game significantly. Also - so few histrionics compared to modern players.
We were close a couple of times to conceding a second goal before Rushy's equalizer, but Jan Molby was superb in turning the game around.

I can remember how this game was billed as a shoot out between Rush and Lineker, and being gutted when it looked like he was getting to win that battle. Then Rush did his thing. Molby had the shape and mobility of a washing machine, but he had the touch of an artist. One of those French impressionist types.

I was gonna comment and say I didn't know how we could replace some of those legends.. Masher, Torres, Stevie, Carra, Alonso, Hyypia etc... then He said Spearing and Doessena... bloody hell!

Last time we won the league. Hopefully there will be scenes like this next season.

If you've not watched the 1986 FA Cup final it in a while ... enjoy the nice highlights package

That was my 11th Birthday. It was a scorcher of a day. I remember me and my Dad laughing while watching some rascal reds bunking in over the rooftop of Wembley!

Thanks for sharing guys. A lot of nice memories there. I was stuck North of the Polar circle for many of those games, and we had one channel on TV through the 80's and early 90's. But we followed as we best could . Our local newspaper kiosk got is Shoot and Match and we got weekly highlights pluss big games as FA cup finals. However, to stay tuned I used to call the stadiums during matches and ask for the score. All the telehone numbers were in a FA yearbook which we got hold of. I guess my parents were pissed off of all those oversea bills. The worst was that game against Arsenal. We were a group of guys hanging around a phonebooth down town. Crazy days.
