Henrikh Mkhitaryan - just a smokescreen

Henrikh better be good (if we do get him. If we don't I ain't bothered either).

For that sort of money, we can/could've gotten Paulinho AND Honda.

Think about that.

Report: Liverpool agree £25m deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan

By This Is Anfield on June 28, 2013
Reports from Eastern Europe this evening (Friday) claim Liverpool have agreed a £25m deal with Shaktar Donetsk for midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Russian newspaper Sport-Express report that an agreement has been reached and “the 18-time champions of England will make an official statement about the transaction in the next few days.”
They claim the deal is 30 million euros – £25.6m, and that the player will fly to Liverpool in a few days.
Update: Anotehr Eastern european journalist, Alexey Yaroshevsky, has stated that Liverpool will sign Mkhitaryan with 72 hours. same source broke Fernandinho to Man City.

Alexey Yaroshevsky@YaroLFC
Yes, Henrikh Mkhitaryan WILL be #LFC player within the next 72 hours, pending medical and official confirmation. Shakhtar source confirmed

He writes that he expects Shaktar to announce Mkhitaryan’s departure this weekend.
A report yesterday quoted Russian pundit Aleksandr Bubnov saying “[Mkhitaryan] wants Liverpool.
“The problem lies in the fact that Mkhitaryan has become a hostage in the issue of his transfer to another club. He is unable to decide anything, with the clubs interested doing it for him.”
Meanwhile, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher told Norweigan TV2 this week “I think there will be another 3 or 4 more signings. Maybe a defender and the player from Shakhtar Donetsk.”
Back in England, The Daily Mail, though, claim Spurs have entered the race for the Armenian (their report is likely based upon Sky Italy reporting this last night).
Furthermore, The Independent claim Mkhitaryan “looks likely to join Borussia Dortmund”, completely contradicting all reports. Earlier this week it was reported that the German club had a £19.5m bid turned down, with Shaktar wanting £25m.
So, three completely contrasting reports; Liverpool deal, Spurs interested, going to Dortmund. Perhaps the most important part here is the source of each report, with journalist Artur Petrosyan the source for the Liverpool deal in Russian news and somebody who has been well informed throughout the transfer saga of late.

He looks ace. I hope we sign him.

We have really expanded our attacking threat this summer, which is long overdue. For years and years, we've been too reliant on one or two players.

I'd still like to see someone with a bit of strength and pace come into our midfield and some aerial ability in at centre back, but we are definitely going to be more of a threat next season.

I'm praying that someone we revive the Papa deal, I'm convinced he'd be perfect for us next to Agger. If we signed Papa and Minas Tirith (whilst keeping Suarez) this summer would have been sensational for me.

This is on.

Suarez will leave now I am positive.

Big gamble moneywise but he is a very good player with even greater potential.

This reminds me of the time I thought it would be a great idea to get Baptista whilst he was at Sevilla and scoring 20+ a season from a similar position and who had also played in different positions in midfield whilst coming up. The Madrid move was a bad one, but ultimately I don't think he had the mentality to do it at a top club - something that's probably impossible for an armchair fan to spot!

It sounds like most people who know Mkhitaryan reckon he'll be fine in this regard, which is good because as that random blogger said (probably the only worthwhile thing he did say), we can't quite afford to get this one wrong.

It could be argued that playing at Shaktar who are the top team in Ukraine and regularly play in the champions league, that he's a lot more ready for a big club, I know it's only Ukraine, but he's still used to being top dog where he is.

This lad looks like he's got more to his game than Baptista though.
We cant afford to get it wrong mind.

KHL indirectly makes a good point, does everything think this signing means Suarez is all but gone? I really hope not.

I'm not saying I disagree with the signings we've made, but at the end of last season I'd have said that with the additions of Coutinho and Sturridge and with Henderson not being completely shit anymore all our stark problems were either central defence or Lucas based. So he's gone and bought three attacking mids.

It's exciting but weird. Like being fingered by Stuart Hall.

That's harsh.

We've been chasing Papadopoulos and Llori but they're complicated deals by the looks of it. Rodgers first signing was a centre back..Kolo Toure, yes It was a free transfer but it's not like he's oblivious to our need for new defenders.

His name is Ilori. 😱

When deals are finalized depends on a lot of things. We know we're working on deals for centre backs are monitoring Wanyama etc for DM.

We havent even started pre season so its a bit early to hit the panic Keegan button.

@Zizouology: Mkhitaryan will arrive on Sunday or Monday for his Liverpool medical while his agent Mino Raiola will travel to England tomorrow [FutbolTV]
