This morning the press are prepping him for a big night tonight, which could well be give his obvious talents.

But how much longer does he get? At this current rate surely he's the most expensive failure ever but in the eyes of the press it's all good as it's inevitable that he'll come good.

So whos that player who you've willed on to come good more so than any other?

For about a week I was utterly convinced pennant would step it up here..

Since then it's been Lucas and Aurelio (more so fit than actually good)

You mean Torres?

I hope he does it tonight...

Regards players for us, probably Vlad and then Kewell. Both were what I thought would end our wait for a proper number 7.

Moreientes.

That's not how to spell his name but that's as close I'm going to try and get.

obviously for me it's babel, but I knew the score (he wouldn't come good) very early on as he failed to get even the basics right.

I do have sympathy for players that have very little playing time and are then thrown into a match that we're losing or drawing and asked to perform a miracle, I also have sympathy for players asked to perform in a position that doesn't play to their strenghts. it's like we 'want' them to fail, this isn't just about babel but players in general, like wilson for example.

knew he would be shit. I remember guillem balague saying why he thought morientes would fail and he mirrored what I was thinking exactly. can't believe we went for that old duffer rather than bringing in nico.

Ha, yeah mark I meant Torres.

( my posting ability goes from poor to dream believer when on my phone)

Morientes is a good shout.

As a kid it was defo Karl Heinz riedle- I was always him in the play ground, Partly cause no other Fucker had heard of him..

Riedle played well alongside Owen, he helped bring out the best in him really. That partnership and the Heskey one are probably the best two that Owen has ever had.

I think he'll score tonight. Just has Torres goals written all over it, and its about time to this will be his 11th match without a goal (club and Country)

I was pretty sure Vlad would make it, was very confident that Cisse would make it until I realized what sort of manager Rafa was and I had not a shred of doubt that ALT would be a great player and I still find that one of the most puzzling failings of all.

I said from the day we were linked that Morientes wasn't right for us or this league - he was a strong man in a tippy tappy league. Never going to make it here.

As for Torres - he'll score tonight IMO and I think this is exactly what he was bought for. I doubt Roman gives a toss if he ever scores again in the league - he's here to add the final touch for Chelsea to bring him Big Ears. I personally think he'll do it as well - would be a good final to see them up against Barca.

Ones I knew wouldn't come good: Cisse, Pennant, Diouf, Baros, Crouch, LUCAS and many many others.

The ones I thought would improve and could have under different circumstances: Aquilani, Litmanen, James, Kewell, Smicer.

You've obviously got one glaring error in your first list ??? but lets not go there.

Smicer, despite him being a player I mentioned as sure he would make it, wouldn't have made it in this league under any circumstances short of it being played in a different country.

Don't know how I forgot Litmanen - I thought he would wonderful for us but then I didn't know his knees were basically shot.

There's quite a few players, I'm a believer, I was wrong so many times though. Nunez, Josemi, Kewell, Baros, Cisse, ALT, FSP, Babel, Aquilani, Pennant and I think that's it off the top of my head. I usually realised the error of my ways quickly though!

The two Robbies. Fowler's second coming was like a dream, i thought he would re-create his old magic. I was gutted when he left the first time. As for Keane, I didn't think he was going to be a hit but I really wanted him to succeed.

Hmmmm... I get your concerns about Vlad, but when Ged had the balls to play him behind the front line for a couple of games (Newcastle and Basel?) he was excellent and we looked a real threat. Then we started to concede a couple more goals as a result of being a bit more lightweight through the middle and Ged bottled it, instead of trying to find a way to tweak it.

Jari was excellent, I think we just bought him too late and again, Ged bought another 'hole' player and then didn't have the balls to use him, as that would mean sacrificing his beloved 'big man' upfront.

Yous know how much i love flogging a dead horse.
Tonnes of players have had my patented 'give him time, hell be a superstar' treatment.
Babel, Le Tallec, Pongolle, Kewell, Baros, Cisse etc
Its a rare talent who i think is muck and have no hope for eg N'gog, Poulsen.

Aquilani too, you were delighted when we signed him.

I've always been a fan of Kewell and Aurelio. I'm also ashamed of a brief period (about 3 weeks) when I actually thought Pennant would step up

Other than that, I was convinced we had our CB partnership sorted for the next 5-10 years with Skrtel and Agger

He showed us he was class, and then we fucked him off.

He didn't quite come good though, did he?

I'm actually convinced if we sign anyone who's forged a reputation before they sign for us, then they're going to be muck.

Bellamy, Kewell (being the main one), Morientes, Cisse.

The only exception really is Torres, but even he was a bit of a gamble.
