Has Salah turned the corner

Selling Mane at his rock bottom value is madness.

Keep them all and win another league title and CL before breaking up the team. They are 30 not 33.

No, accepting rock bottom value would be madness. I don't think there's many supporters who want to get rid of him, but we need a better return than this year and Jota looks as/more effective from the left.

He isn’t at his rock bottom price.

Another season like this and a year less on his contract - what do you reckon happens to his value.

I’d much prefer he stay and turn it around - but history tells us if we want money to invest in new, younger players - it’s coming from selling someone of value.

As things stand - he’s the one we “could” replace the easiest.

I’m not saying we should - but he’s not happy at the minute and something’s not right with him.

Considering selling any of our front 3 before they decline and reinvesting may have been a reasonable approach pre-COVID, but with the declines in revenue affecting FFP and Barca/Real/Juventus finally having their previous poor financial decisions come home to roost, absurd to consider now. We will never get appropriate value for any of the 3, especially Mane and Bobby who have had poor years.

Time is now to invest, like we did with Jota, in another player who can challenge their position. We then hope they return to form and COVID becomes a thing of the past so revenues increase. We then sell from a position of strength, if needed.

It's not time to break up the band yet.

Orrrr. We could sell one of then now, invest in a younger player who will also be cheaper than pre-covid.

It's all relative.

Keeping 3 attackers into their 30s is insane to me.

Or what about keeping all three and the lizards putting their hands in their pockets and buying some big name quality. They owe us one or two.

The compression in prices between the top end and lower end of the market means we will get less out of our reinvestment than if we were getting a stratospheric fee.

I don't think the low end has dropped proportionately the same, given that only a handful of clubs can afford a Salah or Mane whereas many can afford <insert starlet here>

If you were talking 31/32 ya sure but ffs we are talking 29, 28 and 29 to start the season, essentially the prime (sorry Ross) of most players.

Selling them is madness.

That's a bit OTT. None of them are over or even 30 ! It comes down to belief that this squad has another PL or CL in them or not. If you don't you'd want to sell, however winning another CL or PL or more important than rotating out your top stars because they are closing in on 30 and I strongly believe this squad has more trophies in them.

I'd also say that players (and their teams) now tend to take far better care of themselves (and their investments) with the progress of medicine / fitness regimes so that 'finished at 30' is now stretching into at least the 32-33 bracket : Millie, Cavani, Ibra, Ronaldo, Messi .. yes exceptional players but look at how fit they keep themselves too. Vardy is 34 ! J. Evans 34 and Aguero 33 in a few weeks.

With that in mind there are very few in our squad who need to move on this Summer though Gini & Shaq will be on their way for sure (I'd have said Adrian too but maybe he's being held back to assist with training) which will lower the average age considerably.

Clearly for Mane 29, Mo 28, VvD 29, Ali 28, Thiago 30 and Hendo 30 age isn't a concern as yet. Though it could be Firmino is the only one who's drop off may be age related (Millie, at 35, aside).

Fortunately it's not a choice between rebuilding the squad, or keeping it together.

It's perfectly possible to keep the squad together win another couple or more biggies whilst concurrently refreshing and tweaking the squad, so there's no big moment of change, and no drop off in success.

This is the point I'm trying to make. I'm not saying sell more than one. I'm saying we should look to keep it fresh. By keeping them too long they don't only go stale (as we saw this year), but they depreciate in value even in a pre and post COVID market.

I know financially it would be tough to ask. But this is the time to build proper quality depth by keeping all of Firmino, Salah, Mane, Jota. Sell Shaq, Origi, Ox, Wilson, Wodburn, probably some other out on loan players of this season and still sign an upcoming star like Salah/Mane in the region of 40-60m. Best will be get Haaland or Sancho. Knowing our transfer strategy, probably it will never happen. Although I would not completely off knowing we signed VanDjik and Allison both.

We should have then our usual front three; plus depth in terms of Jota, new signing, Elliot, one U23 player trying to push in EPL squad.

Not bad for someone who needed to turn a corner

Potentially missing out on Champions League any given season is worse than depreciation of players. If Salah plays well enough for the next 3 years to help us into CL every year and then walks for nothing he has paid for himself. Who is to say we unearth a star? For every Salah there is a Keita. Salah wasn't stale this year. Mane and Bobby were but still both came up with the good in the home stretch.

Firmino got 9 goals this season, he got 9 last season too. He's not delivering, and he needs to either become a back up player or be moved on if that's not a feasible option.
