Did people really say that?
a smattering of knobheads
Where’s his wheelie bin ?
And two years later, when we were 1-0 down in Athens, the crowd was calling for him to come off the bench … fickle? NahI think Kewell just was such a tremendous disappointment. We wanted him to be great, and after a good half season, he was shite. Not fair on him, because it wasn't a matter of him not trying, or feigning injury, it was just so fucking frustrating. I wouldn't have booed him, but I can understand why a smattering of knobheads did.

Cheeky one - 3:10 into this video
I think it didn't help him that he was signed by Houllier when he was in his 'mad' phase, when he seemed hyper-paranoid and often wilfully contrary in terms of tactics. Instead of playing Kewell on the left, where he had performed well enough to attract us in the first place, Ged insisted on playing him on the right, where defenders knew he was much more predictable, and his runs would have to be checked so that he could cut inside and shift the ball to his left foot. We signed him because we lacked pace and width, and then we played him where he'd not solve those problems.
He's brilliant at that. But he needs to work at his all-round game before he comes back to us.
He seemed to play a number of nice through balls too, so lets hope he is becoming more generally influential. Worst case scenario, the guy is going to bring some money in if we don't think he's going to cut it. With Lallana's powers on the wane, I wonder whether there might be a role for him in that AM berth next season.
Yeah, that was actually a part of his game that helped us on many occasions late in games. He was very good with the ‘keep the ball, draw 3 defenders, flick the ball, get throw-in, rinse and repeat’ thing. The way Kewell came on and held up the ball during those 6 minutes of injury time against Chelsea in the Champions League semi will always be remembered by me with fondness.
"Famously, Wilson’s grandfather, Peter won £125,000 following the game, as he had placed a bet on his grandson to play international football for Wales when he was just 18 months old."
He still won that much, even though he was at least 15 years out???
One assumes holding that the interest accrued in 'holding' that money (from multiple punters) for 15-20 years or more, is easily more than the actual payouts too.I've always found those long term bets odd. Heskey and Chris Kirkland's parents had similar stories of being paid out due to their respective sons playing for England.
I presume the bookies are happy to pay out for the publicity. It'll lead to loads of other parents losing money betting on their kids to get an international cap.
When does his contract expire?
Even if he's not going to end up at Liverpool, we should be able to get a good fee for him if he keeps this up.
Success for the Academy either way.
We got 15mil for Jordon Ibe. Sure we can get something like that at leastIn this market, 8-10 million at least.
Wilson is equally home grown thoughIbe is English therefore would have been more expensive
