A man arrested over an incident of alleged racist abuse at Anfield towards Oldham Athletic defender Tom Adeyemi has been bailed for further inquiries.

An investigation was launched after Friday night's Liverpool v Oldham match in the FA Cup third round.

The 20-year-old man, from Aintree, Merseyside, was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence on Saturday.

Adeyemi appeared close to tears during the game, which Liverpool won 5-1.
Club investigation

He appeared to be comforted by team-mates and Liverpool players Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard following the alleged abuse.

There was reported to have been a discussion between police and the game's fourth official after the incident.

Liverpool said they would be investigating the incident.

A statement said: "We take this matter extremely seriously and have provided the police with the evidence we currently have available to us.

"This includes CCTV coverage and still photography of what we believe to be the relevant part of the stadium, statements from matchday stewards in that area and full access to all the footage captured by the cameras filming the match for our in-house TV operation."
Kop section

Gordon Taylor, chief executive of the Professional Footballers Association, said on Sunday that he had discussed the incident with Adeyemi.

"We can confirm that he was the victim of racist abuse towards the end of the Liverpool v Oldham FA Cup tie last Friday evening," Taylor said.

"This abuse came from a spectator sitting in the Kop section of the ground.

"Tom has given a full witness statement to the Merseyside police regarding the incident and will continue to assist the police fully in their enquiries."

The investigation takes place as Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is serving an eight-match ban for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

I can't find a link for it online but the Oldham chairman was very positive in the Sunday Mirror about the way the club handled the incident:

'I cannot praise Liverpool officials highly enough. They are a great club and were mortified about the incident and very helpful to us. None of the Liverpool people I have dealt with - players or management - have a racist bone in their bodies'

Shame he hasn't been more widely quoted.

Our stewards are a fair bit more proactive than evertons. Evertons usually stand there & do precisely fuck all.

Now apparently we have some stewards who do both grounds, but I've been to loads at goodison as well as Anfield & find it hard to believe.

'Racist/Indecent Chanting'

Those arrests weren't *all* for racism.
Oh yes they was! Oh no the wasn't , rscist indecent listed, those stats above are the RACIST incidents

http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/publications/crime/football-arrests-banning-orders/fbo-2010-11?view=Binary

Weirdly we also have 8 arrested for missile throwing, while Everton have ZERO, which is strange because they was fucking lobbing all sorts at us at the Derby Match.

Infact only Fulham Spurs Liverpool ManCity Newcastle and Sunderland had zero Racisit and indecent Arrests last year!

They way the papers are piling this shit on, you'd think it was only LFC that ever had a fucking Racist or indecent idiot in the ground ever!
Whilst it's great that we had no arrests for Racist or Indecent Chanting, I don't see in those charts where the clubs that did have those issues have broken the figures down into which was which.

It was a guy (one of the LFC fans who is in the press) on Twitter that did the in depth shit, but I forgot to credit him, and can't go back that far to get his name, why didn't any Everton Fans get done for the coins and bottles at the Derby?

There was loads of footage and loads of the fuckers was throwing them.

Gordon Taylor, chief executive of the Professional Footballers Association, said he had spoken to Adeyemi about the incident.

He said: "We can confirm that he was the victim of racist abuse towards the end of the Liverpool v Oldham FA Cup tie last Friday evening.

From alleged/suspected to 'confirmation' ... I wish they'd give the police a few days to actually do their job ...

Let's stop being so fucking precious here.

If the last months 'racist' goings on had happened to Man Utd or Chelsea or whomever, we'd be all over it like a fucking rash and no doubt heaping it on them in exactly the same way the tabloids currently are with us.

We've fucked up. Wear it.

That's extremely true.

I'm glad to see a grown up response from the club about this. It's better than the hormonal rant we got before.

Maybe because here there will be conclusive evidence (there's plenty of eye witness reports) - one way or another. We didn't, and never will, have that in the first scenario ...

The club went on the offensive, started attacking Evra instead, despite never lodging a formal complaint.

To call it misguided would be too kind, IMO.

They did the right thing. They did it the wrong way.

They made their share of mistakes, but they got caught up in a witchhunt. The process which "convicted" Suarez had more holes in it than your average Swiss cheese, but it had establishment backing so there was never going to be any trouble-free way to challenge it.

In the feverish atmosphere that's been created around LFC for the moment, that is both a brave statement and a generous one. Well in the Latics.
