I'd be delighted if we could sell him for £10m. I'm not a Johnson-hater at all, but I think cashing in on him is a no-brainer:

- on big big wages
- surely the last year we could get any decent fee for him (is it not perhaps even the last yr of his contract? Signed 4 years ago...)
- not a bad player but has plenty of faults; not sure the benefits are worth the costs he brings
- Wisdom and Kelly both reasonable back up
- McLaughlin is a very promising right back, still only 18 but shouldn't be more than a year or two away from coming in, if he proves up to it.

I'd spend a few £m on a decent reliable right back around the 29-30 age, should be a few available at reasonable prices. Reinvest the rest of the fee and his wages saved on some other position that needs strengthening. Then in 2 or 3 years, if McLaughlin doesn't look likely to come through, deal with the problem then.

Tbf I meant to put this in that first post but forgot: I've been calling for this for about 2 years, at which point it really would've been the time to sell. I still don't think it's completely too late though.

I've been wanting to cash out on him for quite awhile now, since around January(Before his Form dropped). I just don't see it making a whole lot of sense to keep him around, especially since we aren't struggling to score goals, but are rather leaking them. We have four young players(Flanagan, Kelly, Wisdom, McLaughlin) who are all vying for top level minutes, and even if a couple inevitably burn out, I think it sends the wrong message to keep playing Johnson ahead of them, especially considering how poor(And ironically expensive) he's been.

No offence, but I'd leave Flanno out of the discussion.
He's a championship/league one defender at best and Brendan doesn't even rate him.

Remember this?

To Flanagan, in a quiet voice during training, with Flanagan’s face cupped in his hand: ‘Just make sure with you, you play to your strengths, right, and your strengths for me are simple. Play behind the ball, win it, give it, get on with it. Do you know what I mean? Your strengths is your reading of the game, staying behind the ball. I don’t need you to be [gestures attacking] … it’s not your game, you’re not the one that’s bombing on for fun – Cafu – you’re the boy that stays behind, serves the ball simple, gets organised from behind. Get possession, fine, do you know what I mean? And it simplifies your game then.’

That doesn't mean Rodgers doesn't rate him. After all the likes of Carragher and Gary Neville didn't have bad careers playing that way.

Sure, but that doesn't mean that he rates him either. Rodgers wants attacking fullbacks.

Not saying Rodgers does or doesn't rate Flanagan but you intimated he doesn't and used that quote as evidence to make your point. Innit 🙂

Like I said, I believe Rodgers prefers attacking fullbacks. By telling Flanno that he isn't Cafu he's pretty much saying that Flanno is a limited player. "Play to your strengths"? Come on...

He looks a little hefty to me

Also who the fuck does stuff like this:

Neville overlapped pretty much every time scum went on the offensive. Carra wasn't doing anything at right back, was moved to the left, then finally found his role as a centre back towards the end of Ged's reign.
Flannagan is shite.
