Absolutely.

Worryingly that shit's come back into his game lately; Tonight's elbow, berating teammates, the V-sign at the ref, throwing the head up, the tackle on Pienaar.

We could do without that shite.

Brown deserved it because he is a dick and was kicking him all game but still, you expect better from gerrard

If Gerrard is suspended then Lucas/Aquilani dilemma resolves itself. Both should start in Manchester. Kuyt will probably start in place of Babel.

All I can say is TIT! And if he does get a suspension (which I think he should and will) then he should be fined by the club.

don't see how he can get suspended when the ref saw it and gave him a talking to. seen and punished, further action will undermine the ref.

Steive acted like a child and should really know better. But;

1. Brown raises his arm when Stevie is trying to run past him, so he could argue he was trying to run past him. (vague I know)

2. The ref saw it, gave a free kick and gave Gerrard a talking to. The FA surely can't give him a ban after action has already been taken. That would mean the FA can change a refs ruling every time they feel a need to. If he hadn't seen it, then they would have a case.

The ref will have to say he saw it (he was only 3 yards away) and hence the case is closed. But the club also saw it and should punish him.

I thought the referee handled the incident well. He was close to it and saw it all.

Brown deliberately ran across Gerrard's line to obstruct him and pushed his arm across his chest.
Gerrard's reaction was pure frustration at similar tactics all game.

The referee recognised it for what it was, a cynical play causing a reaction borne of frustration rather than malice.

Indeed, the ref saw it and saw no reason to further punish Stevie. To change his mind the ref would have had to have said he gave the foul for something else. Which in this instance would be very worrying.

Ferdinands challenge went unpunished, hence the ban.

Browns face as he walks off the pitch is fucking deadly, he looks like he wants his mammy.
If ever a player deserved to get his wages paid late its that player.

Youre all a bunch of wooly fucking liberals. Michael Brown is a fucking thug and a cheat and kicked and hacked our lads all night and not for the first night either, and our captain smashed him up. Brilliant i say, echoes of Souness.

We're all so quick to say the right thing these days 'Oh i know isnt it terrible' fuck that!! the lads a cunt and got a good ole smash for his troubles.

Good on yer Stevie lad.

I'm very happy he fucked brown up, BUT is it worth it if he gets a retrospective ban? Especially considering we're at the 5th pivotal moment of the season now. Ideally we won't fuck this one up

+1.

I hate Brown. Biggest thug in the Premiership.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is confident captain Steven Gerrard will escape retrospective action for a clash with Portsmouth midfielder Michael Brown in the 4-1 win at Anfield.

Fernando Torres scored his 14th and 15th in the Premier League this season with Ryan Babel and Aquilani - registering his first goal for the Reds - also on target before Nadir Belhadj's late consolation.

The victory was overshadowed slightly by Gerrard's apparent forearm to the back of Brown's neck in the second half, after which the Liverpool captain was immediately substituted by Benitez.

"I don't think so," said the Spaniard when asked if he was worried about retrospective action against his captain.

"I haven't seen it but I was asking and I think it was nothing."

Benitez also played down the immediate substitution of Gerrard, adding: "We were thinking of changing Torres, Glen Johnson and Gerrard and we did it."

Only a week ago Gerrard found himself in a similar situation for an alleged v-sign made at referee Andre Marriner in the defeat at Wigan.

That went no further as the official said he had seen the incident at the time and decided it did not warrant any action.

On Monday night, referee Stuart Attwell was very close to the incident but took no action but it remains to be seen whether he will be asked to look at it again by the Football Association.

Portsmouth manager Avram Grant said he also did not see the incident but felt Attwell should have spotted it.

"I didn't see it. I will speak with Michael Brown and then I will tell you," he said.

"They told me the referee was four metres away from this so I think the referee needs to see from four metres what I didn't from 40 metres," he said.

"Personally I like Steven Gerrard. I think he is a good player and a fair player."

[/quote]If he does he does. I can live with it. Fans queuing up to lay the boot in to probably our greatest ever player who did something Souness would have done and been applauded for 25 years ago saddens me. Its not something he should be proud of of course, but i am. Thats my boy.

And it is worth our captain getting suspended for? Fuck that.
It was a cowards challenge, smashing him in the back of the head like that.
At least Brown knows he is a thug and goes face to face with a player, see the headbutt on Alonso for proof of that. Echoes of Souness? I never seen Souness act like a coward and hit a guy from behind.

since when did thugs deserve a fair fight, anyway?

I seem to recall that Souey got his retaliation in first from any angle, back, front, side; he didn't seem particularly fussy.
