Gerrard is holding his own as a new manager, you'd have to say. Exciting.

Villa were in 12th when he was appointed. Currently 11th having played the top teams.

A lot of mid table opposition coming up... could go on a good run.

Villa finished 11th last year, FYI.

But taking off away own appreciation of the man - you'd have to say he's gonna have to get them higher.

Yeah, he's done a good job so far. The 3-1 to 3-3 last night wasnt very impressive mind you.

Wow, what a transformation! Phil’s struggles at Barcelona reminded me of Fabregas, who was not nearly as bad of course, but another example of a player who grew up in a more direct and aggressive attacking culture in England and struggled to fit into the more risk-averse style of Spanish football. He was asked to replace Xavi, actually had the talent to do it, but it never felt a natural fit and they eventually had to stick him at false 9.

Now Phil looks like a fish released back into its natural habitat - no second-guessing himself, just killing teams with one or two sharp touches and turns. I’m genuinely happy for him.

Watched the highlights last night. Is Tyrone Mings really that bad? Or was it just an off game?

He is that bad. If he wasn't their club captain he wouldn't start. The Villa fans are on his back and I think Gerrard is getting sick of him as well.

If only he had ties with club with a 24 year old England International CB surplus to requirements and available for 40 million..

7 great stats that prove Coutinho’s incredible impact at Aston Villa
[article]
Coutinho didn’t manage a goal or assist in any of his seven Premier League appearances against Manchester United while playing for Liverpool (480 minutes) but netted Villa’s equaliser just 14 minutes into his debut for the club. Talk about a dream introduction…

Only three players have scored 3+ goals and provided 3+ assists in the Premier League so far in 2022: Bruno Fernandes, Son Heung-min and Coutinho.

– This means that he already has more Premier League goal contributions this season than he managed in La Liga for Barca last year.

His last performance against Southampton was the most dominant. Coutinho scored highest for touches in the opponent’s box (six), for chances created (two) and registered the equal highest amount of shots on target (two) – one of which he scored from.

– Coutinho came fourth in WhoScored’s ranking of January signings, with only Luis Diaz and Newcastle pair Kieran Trippier and Matt Targett finishing above him.

All six of Coutinho’s goals and assists for Villa have come at Villa Park. It would seem as if the Brazil international has found a welcoming home at last.

– Here’s one that will interest Villa fans – Coutinho has registered more goals and assists than Jack Grealish this campaign. Nobody would have expected to read that particular stat last summer…[/article]
