Friday night lights: Wolves Away

🙁

*whispers*
We just need to find a stronger wizard.

If there was a Liverpool Magi at the level we needed we would have won the league a hatful of times in the past decades. No, the most powerful lords of Necromancy support our rivals. The slip. The beachball. Macheda scoring crucial match winning goals in 2008-9 season (and then not scoring for literally years afterwards). These things require powerful lore beyond my cunning.

I've made a deal with the devil to forget Christmas was next week and suffer the hell of Liverpool one on Christmas eve. We'll win. Hope that helps

No wonder, all of the magic from all the LFC magi was spent in six crazy minutes in Istanbul. It took years to recover.

Not sure where to put this, but it looks like we are in a decent position re: rest days this Christmas.

The Magi worked overtime with Dudek in 2005, so I reckon we can see him get back to his cauldron in 2025 at the earliest.

Dejan Lovren says Liverpool can go through season 'unbeaten'

We’re going to get beat.

Lovren is such a massive dickhead. Just keep your month shut and dont give stupid interviews.

Getting beat tomorrow, guaranteed.

You would imagine that someone at the club would have, by now, told Lovren to just stop it . Just fucking stop it Dejan!

I appreciate that he is going to do interviews, and will face loaded questions but surely to fuck he could be taught how to best answer those questions.

I'm gonna be watching this in The Dubliner in San Diego at noon. Which doesn't make up for the fact that I'll be watching us play Arsenal on my laptop in bed at 7 on Boxing Day.

Finally realising why I've never gone away for Christmas before.

Fuck Dejan the Dipshit. But we'll win 2-1

A propos of nothing & to stop the Lovren whine-in, here is a picture of the King's genitalia ... or at least the bald patch on the bottom of his sack

As we get closer to the Kick-Off time - for some reason I feel like we will absolutely smash this lot. Don't know why but for the first time this season I feel confident enough to say we may put five/six past this lot. I am buzzing still by the manner of our win against United on Sunday; this match just cannot come sooner. I realize I could be doing a Lovren here, but I cannot help myself - I know Wolves are a good side and my earlier post warned against their ability against the bigger side, but I just think the way we have been playing this season in a more pragmatic yet pseudo attacking way - just makes us different from the other top sides they have faced.

Yer man on TAW made a great point, that the whole Friday night under the lights with a pissed up crowd might actually help us. As Rurik has pointed out very well, Wolves have performed really well against the top teams by curbing their footballing instincts, and played in a very controlled manner. With a raucous home crowd, they may well be encouraged to try and take us on. That suits us very well.

Nah, sorry – they are too disciplined for that. Take the Chelsea game for example – the crowd was great and they played with great intensity throughout, but never once lost the shape. Even less likely to do so against us, knowing our quality on the counter. They are well-drilled; you can see for instance that every time someone crosses a ball, there are at least 2, sometimes 3 players legging it into the box – a sign of a well-coached team. One weakness I did notice though was offside trap – they defend in numbers and sometimes one of them forgets to come out...

The crowd might help us just because our players will enjoy playing in this atmosphere.

Some stats from Sporting life site:

[bcolor=transparent]
  • Wolves have won just one of their eight Premier League meetings with Liverpool (D2 L5), winning 1-0 in December 2010 at Anfield under Mick McCarthy.
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in each of their last five away trips against Wolves (W2 D3), keeping a clean sheet in each of the last three.
  • Wolves won their last competitive match against Liverpool in January 2017 in the FA Cup fourth round – they haven’t won consecutive games against the Reds since November 1980.
  • Wolves have lost their last 11 top-flight games played on a Friday, including both such matches in the Premier League. Their last such win came in April 1965 vs Sunderland – since then P12 W0 D1 L11 F5 A26.
  • This will be Wolves’ 10th Premier League game against sides starting the day top of the table (W2 D1 L6). Their most recent win in such a match ended the longest ongoing unbeaten run that season (Man Utd in 2010-11).
  • If Liverpool win this game, they are guaranteed to be top of the table on Christmas Day. Each of the last four sides to top the table on Christmas Day have gone on to win the title, though Liverpool themselves were the last side to fail to do so in 2013-14.
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in 18 Premier League games – their longest ever run in the competition, and longest run in the top-flight since November 1990 (23 games).
  • Wolves are looking to win four consecutive top-flight games for the first time since January 1972.
  • Wolves will be the 27th different side Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has faced in the Premier League – he’s beaten all previous 26 sides so far.
  • Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has been directly involved in 10 goals in eight Premier League appearances against newly-promoted teams for the Reds (5 goals, 5 assists). The Egyptian has scored in each of his last five Premier League appearances against newly-promoted teams.

Reading all of those, you can't help but feel we are winning tonight.

How have you fared in the past with these predictions?

Sometimes i get it right .... sometimes i get it wrong. This is the first time this season i have a confidence feeling about our team ... it looks like we have now actually come to the party.
