It takes one follower (e.g. Mohammed Merah) to take 4 innocent lives.
You don't need 47M. Not even 47K.

I really can't see the point of your response, @Rosco.

Here's what my cousin in France wrote to me:

Dieudonné is a well known french "humorist". You never heard about him before Anelka 's quenelle?
He made shows during 10 years with Elie Semoun, an over very known humorist, but jew. The black and the jew...
Dieudonné is cleaver and perverse... He is incomprehensible and abominable, he is an anti-Semite...
data: he have 35000 subscribers on twitter and 400 000 on facebook and a big success on youtube...
The french home secretary Manuell Valls just ask to the local representatives not to authorize his shows, but its no easy (free speach lows).
The anti-Semitism is discreet in France but as usual, with the crisis some assign blame...
Manuel Valls's action should make become aware of the reality to a lot of people but not to all...

35K & 400K are not numbers you can just waive...

I see your point but Piers Morgan has a large amount of followers. I'd imagine that more than a good few of them follow him so that they can abuse him at every avenue. Others because they want to spread the word of what a nob he is, others cos they just want to see what he's saying and follow the crowd and some because they actually like him.

Sometimes, you let people spread their shit so that the vast majority can see what cunts they are. There will always be fanatical idiots and stoping free speech will not stop these people from doing what they do.

Spion, my point is that among those 35K and 400K followers there will always be those fanatical few (dozens? hundreds? thousands) who will translate words into violence. Free speech should not be stopped, but should be controlled as there are always those who abuse freedom of speech and democracy.
I don't know who Piers Morgan is so I can't comment to your comparison.

"Controlled"?

What would you suggest Jimmy?

There is only so much that can be done if someone has a willing audience.

I knew "controlled" wasn't the most appropriate word, but couldn't find any better...

I suggest putting red lines which if crossed had criminal consequences.
Do you want to live in a country in which every moron can just go our and preach for whatever he wishes to?
Looks like the French authorities are acting against that guy.

I'm sure I read that some people protested when one of his shows got cancelled by the authorities.

The problem appears to be more that there is a willing audience than some guy spouting some nonsense about a Jewish conspiracy amongst other things. And if it's not this chancer, it'll be another one about this or something else.

I guess that's harder to analyze and solve though. In the meantime, what do you do? Hard to say, particularly when he can reach a large audience off the Internet. I don't know enough about this guy to know whether it borders on criminal activity. The whole "incitement of hatred" thing has always seemed very wooly to me.

So are you suggesting to just let him do his stuff?

I think the way to handle these issues (like it is with many other issues) is a combination of education and enforcement. Education is the long term solution, but for the short to medium term a state has to take some measures to protect itself and its citizens from such people.

Can't agree with that.

Free speech is free speech.

Whether 9 people hate it or 9m people hate it, it matters not.

Sure, I hate the fact that the EDL & the BNP can openly spout their bigoted shite, but they have to be allowed to do it.

The alternative is to give control of what people can say to the government, which is a horrific idea for obvious reasons. I heard a debate about this a while back & someone was saying their should be an independent body setup to decide what can be said publicly with representatives of all kinds on board.

As was quickly pointed out, that would include people from the groups you're trying to stop, so wouldn't never work.

You simply can't do it. In my ideal world I'd ban kids from attending churches, make all schools secular & make Sunday schools illegal, all for pretty obvious reasons, but many people would make teaching evolution & similar illegal for opposing but equally obvious reasons.

Let everyone have their say & allow the state to spend money educating people as best they can.

@moron

Seriously this thread is such a fucking downer, can someone move it to the general chat forum?
It was wrong and stupid to do that gesture, especially if he didn't know what it meant.
He might be an anti-semite which wouldn't surprise me but let's just move on.

@jimmy I knew Dieudonné when he started his shows with Elie Semoun they were very good. Then they split when Dieudonné started to lose the plot with his anti-zionist agenda.
I'd not heard about the Quenelle untill a few weeks ago

Would you be so quick to dismiss it if the gesture was anti black? I seem to remember you were all over Suarez? Or have I not remembered correctly?

If he's an anti Semite, then it's not acceptable. But yeah just move on, nothing to see here.

Probably, I actually didn't have much to say on the racism issue, because I've lived it and it's got boring and repetitive.
Regarding Suarez? That was about him wanting to leave, giving an exclusive to a British paper, citing broken promises etc, acting like a proper cunt. That I take issue with.
Have I opened my gob when people on here complain about former black players using the black card? Or Piara Powar? Or the Society of Black Lawyers?
No!
So I think I'm being consistent.
Like I said, I don't see why this is being discussed in the football forum. Anelka apologised and said that he won't do it any more.
Are any more players in the premier league doing it? I mean on the pitch?

Move on.

If that's your view then fair enough. But I can tell you that there would be more of a furore if this was racism rather than anti semitism. See the whole Suarez affair for reference.

Would you say move on if it was racism towards a black man? I'm not so sure.

Oh and by you commenting on ?Suarez I meant regarding the Evra affair.

As for Piara Powar, well that's a weak argument for me. When he's been brought up it's to show the hypocrisy / inconsistency of the man who's leads an anti racism organisation yet has used a racial term himself towards an Asian. Not to mention his stance on sectarian chants by RAngers fans whilst ignoring anything to do with Celtic. The same club supported by his wife and prominent media person Asmah Mir.

Anelka has used a gesture that could be considered anti Semitic. People went mental went Suarez used a term with racial connotations. Why are people not bothered about Anelka in the same way? Is it because he's black and Muslim? There, I said it.

But my feeling is that there is an element of that currently. Wrong is wrong, no matter what creed or race.

By the way, I'm not Jewish. It just bothers me that casual anti semitism gets brushed under the carpet whilst racism or islamaphobia is jumped all over. It should be a level playing field for me.

I get what you're saying and I agree there should be a level playing field. I'm not sure I totally agree that anti-Semitism is being swept under the rug considering the FA's clamping down on fans using the word "yid".

The reason why people aren't so bothered by Anelka making that sign is probably because it's unknown in England (until now) and also because it's not universally recognised as a nazi salute.
The man doing it says that it's anti-establishment, but at the same time he's an anti-semite.
So to me it seems that it's a case of connecting the dots.
I'm not gonna be daft and say that it isn't a reverse Hitler sign or whatever, it could be, but until that's established it falls behind other known racial slurs.

Not having a pop at you personally by the way...

@Modo, just a reminder - Hitler did not "like" black people.

I can't see how black footballers can make this salute. Is it ignorance? brain wash?
Nazism is a bad thing for everybody - Jews, Muslims, Black people, White people. It should be kicked away.

You know how you know it is anti-semitic? Check out all the pictures floating of it around the internet ... Around synagogues ... Near the school in France where a few kids were gunned down by that cowardly fucking twat ... Auschwitz ... Around religious Jews ... in Israel ... near a sign saying 'Juif' ... It's obvious what this is ... [you don't see it around churches, or mosques etc, or at least I haven't]

I don't know what Anelka thinks, or Nasri, or Parker etc ... I honestly don't care - this has only giving this comedian more air time, when a few minutes with an Israeli commando would be far more entertaining to be honest.

I've only seen the pictures posted here. But if what you're saying is true, then that sign is wrong and should be banned.

I don't know what they should do to be honest Modo ... I just wish there was a way to deal with this without making that comedian even more popular. The reaction has only given him more popularity and air time, regardless if it's negative or positive. I dunno ... We live in a messed up world ... but at least it still has Liverpool.

I sense that you have the same frustration towards anti-semitism as I have towards black racism.
A long time ago, I came to the conclusion that there are good people and there bad people and there always will be and I can't be arsed going about changing bad peoples opinions.
