Oh I see your point now. So let's focus on the black people who died. I still can't get my head around how a black person can today feel offended. He didn't die, it's like he'd be trying to worm his way into the suffering in some way. The comedian is a dick and should be jailed or fined, as should Anelka. Bringing that about is a good thing, and for me a funny thing to watch. But to say their actions or jokes caused you to be offended, I think causes even more offence to the people who did die.
I am not black (well, I am below the belt but that doesn't count for skin color), so I don't know what would offend them or what wouldn't. I'd be interested to hear Henry's take on it based on his family's history ....
The comedian shouldn't be jailed. It's just one of the major issues facing Western Society and 'freedom of speech.' When is the slope too slippery? Is he inciting against anyone? I don't think so but he's encouraging something that will lead to violence one way or another (it did last week, but it was the 6 Jewish kids who were arrested for beating the shit out of people doing the signs).
I didn't say ignore it. Justice should be served, that comedian seems to have been fined for defamation more times than Anelka has transferred clubs. That's good, and I'm hoping he continues so that more justice can be served. He holds those views, the more times he is punished for it the better. You would have him shut up? Free speech is constrained by defamation law, public order laws, discrimination, and so on. Most people are too dim to properly understand the meaning of those laws so have no idea about the limits to their free speech. UK Justice is awesome in that regard, it's like a game of Russian Roulette with poor hapless people on Twitter getting picked off like flies.
The question is always where on the slope to you remove freedom of speech.
