Liverpool Midfield Solution #1
Liverpool is in desperate need of midfielders right now. The failure of the club to replace Gini Wijnaldum is coming back to haunt the club. Wijnaldum was a workhorse. He was defensively secure and always available.

Liverpool’s midfield currently has some of the most injury-prone players. It is hard to expect consistency from a midfield where players struggle to contribute 15 full nineties in a season.

So, in this article, we will look at André Trindade da Costa Neto. Yes, he is as talented as the name sounds.

The 21-year-old is one of the best defensive midfielders in the Brasileirão.

But what are the qualities that make him a good fit for Liverpool? Let’s have a look.

Availability
One of the qualities that Wijnaldum possessed was his ability to stay injury free. You can call it luck, but he played 30+ nineties in 4 out of the five seasons he played at Merseyside.

This is one of the things that Liverpool still needs to replicate. Thiago and Naby Keïta have not contributed 30+ nineties even once for Liverpool.

André, on the other hand, played 33.5 out of the 38 available nineties in the league last season. It should be kept in mind that he is a defensive midfielder who covers a lot of ground and constantly indulges in duels.

His fitness is one of the primary reasons Liverpool should be looking at him. He provides quality as well as consistency, something that Liverpool desperately needs in their midfield right now.

Excellent Dribbler and Press Resistant
André has the Brazilian flair in him. He is excellent with the ball at his feet. He uses his dribbling to evade pressure and progress the ball.

The 21-year-old was the most efficient dribbler in the league. On average, he won 2.18 dribbles per 90 and had a success rate of 69.5%. He is a good ball carrier and has good ball retention as well.

Ball Winner
Recovering and winning duels is another excellent trait that André possesses. He was one of the best and most consistent ball-winners in the league.

Averaging 7.55 ball recoveries per 90, he was one of the most proficient in the league. The heatmap above shows the areas from where he recovered the ball. It can be seen that he can do it all over the map. Liverpool midfielders are good at recovering the ball, but the issue comes down to availability and consistency in the end.

Passing
It is very rare to find players who are good at progressing the ball using both their passing and carrying abilities. André fits this rare profile.

One of the most impressive things to note is that he attempts more than 70 passes per 90 and still manages to keep a passing accuracy of 92.3%.

His progressive passing numbers might not be that impressive, but if we look at his progressive passing map, it will give us a better picture.

One of the major takeaways from the above map is that he is very vertical with his passes. He is also able to penetrate the penalty box with his passes.

Final Verdict
André is still a relatively unknown talent. Liverpool and Barcelona have recently scouted him, but a possible move looks unlikely.

He is extremely talented for his age, and a move to Europe might be due soon. Liverpool should move for him now, as there is a chance the situation becomes identical to the Enzo Fernandez situation, and the club would have to pay a hefty fee to get him.

I'd be much more comfortable defensively if we could get in a really pacy and aggressive young CB, who is comfortable playing both RCB and LCB.

Not sure what the club's thinking on this is - but I wouldn't necessarily prioritise a left-footed CB.

If you can just get someone who is fast, aggressive, can cover large spaces and is good at one-on-ones, that's good enough. Basically look for a Rudiger type player who can slot in across the defence and use his top class athleticism to snuff out attacks.

One player I'd like us to look at in that profile is Tiago Djalo at Lille. Not just because he fits that profile, but also because he has 1 year left on his deal.
Actually scratch that - discovered that Djalo is out for a year with an ACL injury. No wonder no one has gone in for him this summer.

At 20m i think we should be signing Dre, even if we have to pay now and wait for him to join in January.

I would be quite happy - actually ecstatic - if we managed to land both Lavia and Andre 3000 to replace Fabinho and Thiago. Yes, both players are quite raw and we would have to live with some mistakes through the adjustment period - but I’m far more willing to be patient with players who obviously have the talent to reach world class levels because the journey will be fun and the payoff worth it. In fact seeing a top-class talent develop and grow in your team is probably the most fun part of football.
No, the most fun part of football without a shadow of a doubt is seeing your team win trophies.

No, it's seeing that big greek dickhead break fellaini's leg. It's looking at the Everton mongrels walk back down Stanley Park looking like a funeral sponsored by sports direct. It's corner taken quickly. It's beating man u 7-0 when you're shit and they're meant to be good. It's Luis Garcia wanging one in from forty yards when he's been complete shit for the last three matches.

Ok, it's also winning trophies, but I hope I've made my point. It's the moment when you find yourself laughing your head off.

Yeah, but Dreamie has had to watch his favourite team get smashed 7-0 and watch Fellaini play for them, all the while winning fuck all and having nothing other than an increasingly distant memory of Roy Keane’s playing days to bring him joy and comfort.

Absolutely great moments too but none top winning the competition these moments happen in.
These moments are always elevated when there is a trophy at the end to talk about.

Agreed, would the "you beauty" goal be as memorable if we didn't win the CL?

Also why I don’t rate the Dortmund win as highly or the run to the 2017/18 final. If we had beaten Real that would have been my fav trophy run ever even surpassing Istanbul. Of course still love those moments and relive them, but the ones linked with a trophy at the end are the ones I cherish the most.

Dortmund was on the way to the Sevilla final in Europa League. Point still stands.

The semi finals against Dortmund and Barca are the most ecstatic moments we've had as supporters since Istanbul.

One of my favourite moments was the last minute Allisson header against West Brom.
Totally pandemonium in the Count's household.
We won top four that season too so it made it all the more special.
Yep that’s a huge one and we missed out on fourth it wouldn’t have been as good after the fact for me

That moment was a precursor to winning the CL so yes it is.
It wasn't.
We were beaten by Real Madrid
But seeing that it's big day for you I won't argue the point.
Happy birthday mate.
Welcome to middle age

True enough! Certainly takes the shine off that moment, although that stage the best we could achieve was fourth so it’s a little different. Great moments in cup or league runs where winning the comp is a real possibility because of the outcome and we subsequently don’t always tarnish the excitement of looking back at that result for me.
The original point being winning trophies is the best part of following a team which I’ll stand by. Every single other thing is secondary.

I was going to suggest attacking the man city bus was one amazing moment that stands on its own, but we won the CL that year so we'll never know if it would pass your tests regardless.
Ha ha. The exception that proves the rule.
Maybe stealing the passwords to their scouting super computer is also up there!
