He's absolutely fucking nothing like Suarez. Even when Suarez was missing loads of sitters he was doing that crazy cutting inside and making people fall over and generally doing shit with a footy that I'd never seen before. Firminho will never be in that league. But he looks decent.
Yeah. Plus suarez could do that incredible striker thing where he would always, always know where & how to hit it, & use the outside of his foot equally as well as the inside to bury it. I've only seen Fowler hit shots with that combination of control & power under pressure as well as him wearing a Liverpool shirt.
Yes. He obviously forgot he was talking about one of his precious England players. The number of times during a game that Tyler seems to get bored and starts referring to England never fails to amaze me. There can be a fast counter-attack, full of promise, and he'll suddenly break off to ponder the next England game. He's really weird these days.
Towards the end of the match when Hart made another boss save he suddenly said "Hart does well again, he's a tremendous ambassador for England".

I actually think he meant the back heel directly for firmino. If you look at where he's looking it's towards firmino rather than coutinho- even after he passed it he turned the other way. It's like he slightly mishit the back heel and it rolled to little Phil. I'm pretty sure he'd have had to have magic vision to see that pass as it turned out. Credit to him for trying though and I still think firmino would have got it just would have been running away from goal.
The whole false 9 stuff has me completely baffled. What the fuck is it, exactly?

I was quite fascinated by Can - he seldom looks up before he passes but he played some really clever, or at least clever-looking, passes. I don't quite know if he does it as a trick, like 'giving the eyes,' or he's just eccentric. Or maybe he's able to glance once and have an amazing sense of where players are.

Yes. He's actually had two good games in his entire Liverpool career so far. Needs to be more consistent and score more goals, otherwise he won't have a Liverpool career.
It does seem as if Klopp is willing to give him every chance and be patient, so that's a positive for the player concerned.

I was listening on the radio as I had other things to do that day, and the commentator was totally stumped for what to say. He couldn't make out what Suarez had actually done, nor could he figure out how it was even possible.
I still make the King our greatest ever player, for a whole variety of reasons, but if the question were to be "Who's the most talented footballer you've ever seen play for LFC?" I'd vote for Suarez now. There were times when the only response I could make to what he did with the ball was to LOL.
It fucks me off that we're not good enough to have players of Suarez's ability stay with us for any meaningful length of time.
Yeah, but I suppose there will always be a threat if a team like Barca, Real or Bayern want your players. There are some clubs and managers that, for most players, are hard to resist, for various reasons.
Real and Barca are - and have been for some time - considered the pinnacle and the ultimate "I've ARRIVED IN THE BIG TIME!" destination. We've seen plenty of our top talent go that way: Owen, Macca, Suarez, Masher, Alonso. And lots of other big clubs have also seen that migration.
But that's understandable and unavoidable. What really gets me agitated is the transfer (nearly or otherwise) of our top talent to clubs that aren't at that level, but are better than us. Especially domestically.
Sterling to City, Torres to Chelsea, Gerrard to Chelsea, Suarez to Arsenal. Now, the last two didn't happen - but very nearly did - and that sums up our standing in the game these days more than anything: the very best players do not see us as a club at which they can achieve all of their goals; the trophies, the glory, the fame, the money.
We'll have to get used to it, because under FSG that isn't going to change, even with Klopp.
No, if a player wants to go to City or Chelsea we need to worry about the reasons why, because quacking on about "money and greed" is ignoring the bigger issues and reality of the situation. If I was Torres or Sterling, I'd have left too.
What reasons are there beyond more money and likelihood of trophies? That's it.
We know we're not going to run at a loss so we're always going to lose players to those who can pay more. They've brought Klopp in to try to sort the success issue out, which of course brings more dosh via CL money and better sponsorship if it works. It's the trophies bit that is important. Nobody believes we can win one, largely based on the fact that we haven't won anything worthwhile in a decade and have challenged for the title exactly twice in 15 years.
