AC Milan apparently have offered him a 3M€ salary. Now I believe it's possible to get him for cheap, otherwise Milan would not get involved.

Maybe it's worth it to sign someone like this, just so that people finally realize that Lucas is not so bad in comparison.

Di Marzio claims we're after him, which is the best source out there.
Napoli, Milan, Inter and Liverpool are talking to his agent about a move. Loads of other clubs are probably interested aswell.

I think its a summer move though as Porto want a fair bit of cash for him now.

He's better than Lucas!!

I'm not sure if I'm missing your point, but do you want Liverpool to sign someone worse than Lucas to prove that Lucas isn't that bad?

No, I don't want us to sign someone worse than Lucas. I just think many people have this fantasy that someone like Reges or M'Vila would instantly be a big improvement over Lucas and I think they are dead wrong. We might get a marginal improvement, at best, after the settling-in period.

It might be still worth it, if the price is right. Just don't expect miracles or instantaneous impact.

Napoli have missed out on two targets now, Gonalons and Nainggolan. They'll probably go all out for the next few targets.

I dont agree. Firstly it will also mean that Lucas finally has some competiton which might see him push on a bit aswell.
Secondly, both M'Vila and Reges are much more physical and quicker than Lucas. Which is what his game is lacking at the moment. He's fine against most mid table and lower placed teams in the league, but he struggles big time in every top match. You'd have to wonder if he'll ever return to full fitness after his injuries as he's still slow and is usually knackered when we've played 70-75 mins.

That was my thinking too. Still, it baffles me that a number of in-demand players still head to Italy.

He's just a very average footballer. Not sold on M'Vila as such but Reges definitely would be an improvement.

A marginal, at best improvement? Just what the club needs.

Sure, we do need to improve. But some people seem to think that signing a physical and athletic DM in January would almost guarantee us a top-4 finish. I don't see it that way. I think it's difficult to integrate a new CM into a team and I see the improvement of our midfield more as a long-term project rather than falling into the trap of magic bullet thinking, as if buying one player will instantly solve all our problems in defense.

I agree - I think buying attacking options that will help us breakdown stubborn defences (and we have a lot of big home games in the 2nd half of the season) is more critical.
