Favourites for the Title

Today is the 28th anniversary of the last time Palace beat Citeh away. The last time we were this far ahead of Manure at Christmas was that same season. The last time we won the title was that season.

Just sayin'.

If we emerge from the City game still top of the league I think alot of people will start to make us favourites, but until then its still City.

We are not favs, not by a long shot.

They have the depth, the quality, the manager , the experience of a title run in, the ability to invest in Jan and have their best player back as well as Aguero.

Only 4 points behind with the injuries they’ve had and playing most of the top 6 away already and us to go there.

City are massive favs but it’s nice to not be 25 points behind.
Don't forget, with that 25 point advantage you gave them, we are really still 21 points behind them now.

Last time Palace won away at city was 1990. league winners that year were............

We're fucking winning it chaps

We defo aren't winning this like Sturridge isn't only scoring vital goals and DB ain't cashing out and like the pope doesn't fuck kids in the woods and like I'm not shitfaced and forgot how to punctuate.

Fuckinf love Hodgson me

City are still easily the favorites as far as I’m concerned. They’ve been so ridiculously consistent for so long, they’ll hardly drop too many more points and they normally don’t face teams that score 3 from 5 shots on goal.

BTW wasn’t @RedNinja calling for Klopp’s head last year?
Whoops, was it Modo?

I think its worth you all remembering that we have played 2 more aways than City.

Considering they have dropped 7 points in 8 games away and only 3 in 10 at home it tells you where there weakness is (if there is one). They are much stronger and more consistent at home, before this weekend they hadnt dropped a point.

So the fact they have to play two more aways than homes is good for us.

I think we might be 6-7 points clear after the Christmas period/City game.

Favourites indeed.

City will go close to the same points total this year so for Klopp to improve us by that many points is insane.

He deserves full credit, regardless of the luck we’ve had along the way.

I still don’t think we can maintain it til May but it’s incredibly exciting to be in the mix

Let's ask a different question: what factors will be key in keeping title-winning form till May? I think the following:
  1. Key players staying healthy, obviously
  2. Us being eliminated in 1/8 or 1/4 in the CL. It will also help us immensely if City progress deep in the CL.
  3. The adrenaline and belief from everyone once we realize this could really happen – this could really carry us over the line, a bit like Leicester who all played out of their skin in the 2nd half of the season once they realized they had a real chance.
  4. An added attacking boost from either Keita acclimatizing, Lallana rediscovering his form or someone else (Brewster? Ox coming back early?).
  5. Anything else? Don't think Klopp will make any January signings for the fear of messing up the chemistry and wasting time waiting for another player to acclimatize.

City are already off the pace they set last year. At this stage they had dropped a grand total of 2 points.

I doubt they will get 100 points this season; us on the the other hand ...

My West Ham mate at work keeps saying that if we go onto win the title - it will be the greatest PL win of all teams ONLY because of the City team and what it represents in terms what they achieved last season and the expense of their squad. But I tell you what - there are no easy games for us - we have to maintain 100% focus, as nothing comes easy for our team.

But we have some tricky fixtures even after the City game: United (A), Chelsea (H), Spurs (H), Everton (A), Newcastle (A) - any one of those fixtures could screw us up big time.

Doesn't go in this thread, don't care.

Went out last night to see Cast, stayed behind in the lobby with loads of others all singing Liverpool songs for about half an hour until security kicked us out!

Goes into town & again there's groups singing & chanting everywhere you go. Amazing atmosphere. You wouldn't know there were any blues in this city based on last night!

Go to teach a load of lads the VVD 'dirty old town' song as well, boss.

Three teams getting cut adrift at the foot of the table would help too as relegation battles always elevate teams ability and cause upsets.

Hopefully the way the fixtures fall we will get teams either in shite form or already safe when we meet them.

It’s so fragile still as an injury to Allison/VVD/Salah and we are fucked imo

True but not by much and have had a brutal run with injuries to key players who are now back.

I can’t see us getting 100 points but anything over 90 would be fantastic
