He'll be 28 this year, plays for City, and has missed 32 games in the last 2 years.Philips is definitely good enough.
What is he good enough for? Being the new Arthur?

I hope we are actually looking around for some one better and not someone cheap.
Agreed, as if they've been provided a list from someone at the club. Nah...Tbf, Reddy and Pearce don't get any scoops any more. Unless it's a very public pursuit, most of the journos aren't really clued in.
We were told for the most of June that Thuram was our target, and Szoboszlai suddenly arrived out of nowhere.
27, had a year out due to a recurring fatness, would probably cost north of 35m.Philips is definitely good enough.
Agree, City signed him as backup to Rodri simply because they couldPhilips is definitely good enough.
I probably should have written "I naively hope..........."Hahahaha.

I cannot see the positives. I don't know whether he just fell off the wagon when he left Leeds, but whatever he had I don't know if it's still there
Both Reedy and Pearce with the same list of players to replace Fabs so they have obviously been briefed by the club.
None of the players come close to peak Fabinho which is what we need.
I hope we are actually looking around for some one better and not someone cheap.
I assume we are not interested in Caicedo because of his price tag.
I think I’m with you, but I do worry about the home grown situation over the next couple of seasons, particularly if Hendo goes.I would sooner take a gamble on a 19 year old lavia, than a 27 year old phillips.
Luis is 23 and has been in Benfica's first team for 2 years now, with more than 80 games under his belt. Last season, he clocked 3800 minutes, which is an impressive workload, and is statistically one of the best young DMs in Europe, and is now in his physical prime. There's a risk of course given that he's playing in a lesser league, but after Tchouameni and Caicedo, he'd be my favourite option.I don’t see how you can’t equate Florentino Luis and Lavia - both have just one good season under their belt.
He has a 107 million release clause btwThis one though might be an alternative:
Florentino Luis is a name previously suggested to Liverpool. -

Lavia is just 19. He may indeed be a very good prospect, but very players are ready for the physical demands of first team football (3000 + minutes) before they hit their physical prime (typically between ages 21-27). And that's not even counting the experience and understanding of the game you need to play the 6 at a high level.

PL:Can someone break down the whole homegrown deal again? Is it for the PL or Europe?
Yeah, I think you're right, but he'd played about 30 games for the Benfica first team before he went on loan. Just making the point that he's far more advanced in physical development than Lavia.you sure about that? Wasn’t he on loans before last season and didn’t play much or am I get mixed up?
Can someone break down the whole homegrown deal again? Is it for the PL or Europe?
So Scottish players don't count as homegrown? Both cap the number of non- English (and Welsh) to 17 so leaving 8 spots for ‘home grown’ players. Definition is slightly different between uefa and EPL. European definition is anyone who has been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21.
PL:
Max 17 foreign players
Rest need to be homegrown or u-21s.
You need to register squad of 25, so if you don't have enough HGs, you'll be forced to submit a shorter squad list (say 22 players). Of course, there's no limit on the number of u21s you can use.
Europe:
Max 17 foreign players
4 club-trained players (should be at club for 3 years before they hit 21)
4 association-trained players (should be at an English club for 3 years before they hit 21)
Again, your overall squad size gets reduced if you can't meet the HG quotas.
Practically, I think the issue isn't as bad as it is always made out to be. We rarely use more than 20-21 players a season, and the bulk of the minutes are taken about by about 15-18 players. The fringe minutes anyway go to u21s.
As long as you have about 5-6 HG players in the long-term, you're good. We have Kelleher, Trent, Gomez, Jones as all being club-trained. Elliott, Bajcetic and any other kids that come through will also be club-trained in the long term.
We might need to sign one good English player some time in the next couple of years, but otherwise we should be good.
Sounds like we need to start producing more players...Both cap the number of non- English (and Welsh) to 17 so leaving 8 spots for ‘home grown’ players. Correct …. And before you ask, no Norn Iron don’t count either 🙂So Scottish players don't count as homegrown?
Nope as they have a separate league and FA.So Scottish players don't count as homegrown?
