Expectation for coming season

If we finalise these two deals I genuinely dont see why any Liverpool fan would walk into the season not thinking we should have a real and genuine tilt at the title.

Unproven keeper in England
No cover for LB
No meaningful cover at CB
Inconsistent CB (Lovren)
No back up for Firmino
Not enough depth to challenge in the league and Europe to close a gap of 25 points

Definitely we look stronger but not strong enough yet.

Unproven keeper in England keeper has to stop shots, geography doesnt matter
No cover for LB Milner/Moreno/Gomez
No meaningful cover at CB Matip/Klavan/Gomez
Inconsistent CB (Lovren) I disagree. Occassional brain farts are not inconsistency. He 9/10 is excellent. And certainly since the back 4 settled with Virgil he was almost always excellent.
No back up for Firmino agreed....
Not enough depth to challenge in the league and Europe to close a gap of 25 points bollocks. City turned round a similar gap last year.

Definitely we look stronger but not strong enough yet.

I expect Liverpool to have a strong title challenge this season. They should be close to the top or on top of the league coming into the remaining couple of months of the season.
Another good run in the Champions league, quarters or higher.
Winning something would be great.

Milner played 0 minutes at left back last season when Robertson wasn't playing.

The only player to play there was Moreno so it's safe to assume he's the cover again. Hence we have no cover, as he's fucking shite.

None of those CB have been good enough and Lovrens injury record means there is fuck all chance he's playing most games.

City have way more depth than us. Way more.

We still don't have the impact off the bench they do when our starting 11 are having an off day.

Patrick youre out of your element.
You lost ALL your credit last season.
Im not listening to any more of your bollocks.

You are NEVER right. Ever. You only inspire more confidence in me it can happen

Also......we bought a fucking DM!!!! An actual DM! How can that not make you excited? No team without a DM wins the title and we have a good one.
Fernandinho
Kante
Kante
Matic
Fernandinho
Carrick/Fletcher
Fucks sake you too oncy.....why does everyone keep forgetting the Shaq !!!

I hate this deafeatist "we have a 25 point gap to make up", its pure bollocks. We start level on 0 pts, we are not chasing someone 25 points ahead of us.

The chances of city getting as many points as last season are slim to none.

If you want to stick to the logic of "we have 25 points to make up on the current champions" then bear in mind that, by the same logic, last season we made up 22 points on the then champions, and that was with us taking our foot off the pedal for the last 5-6 games. So its certainly not an impossible mountain to climb.

Oh - and the previous season we made up 53 points on the reigning champions!!

Youre a right sexy wee bastard you.

I also think Citys squad isnt as good as people think.
They played Delph at LB all season. Their CBs are all pish except Kompany who will miss half the season again. They have fuck all cover in midfield, like nothing, no one, nada, their midfield options are shit. We could put (all being fit) arguably THREE midfield threes out.
The only point I would concede is that in Sane, Sterling, Jesus, Silva, Silva, Mahrez they have great options across the front three.

They got lucky as fuck last season with injuries.

Clyne has also played LB so we have 5 players who can cover the position! Move on. FB is not an issue. We've other fish to fry.

Delph will be ousted by Mendy this season, so that's an improvement

Otherwise....not much has changed?

The team had depth in spades last season, and we still beat them 3 times, and united beat them from 2 goals down

People aren't going to shit themselves anymore facing them because you just go at them and you can unsettle them

There is also the factor that other teams will see how we and Utd were successful in beating them, and try to copy at least part of that approach.
The lower table teams maybe wont be able to do it, but they'll at least alter their tactics a bit you'd think.

There is also the Guardiola factor. He'll definitely tinker with something that was working perfectly fine last season.

As Tombrown said, the chances of them getting as many points as last season are slim to none.
I reckon it will be close as fuck between us, City and Utd.

And Spurs.
And Chelsea if they keep Hazard and Courtois.

I think City benefited from a false air of invincibility for the first half of last season, if we'd have beaten or drawn with them in the Mane red card game, I don't think so many of the lower table sides would have approached the game as if they'd already lost. After the games when we and United absolutely dicked them, their games with the lower league sides were much closer, and they looked much more vunerable, over the course of a season, I think that would have made a difference.

Over half of Spurs first team won't be available for the start of the season thanks to the world cup, then they move to their new stadium, where obviously we'll fucking smash them. I'm really hoping this will be the year they fuck right back off to the obscurity they belong.

As Tom Brown says, Chelsea finished the 16/17 season with 93 points. Were almost unstoppable as they banked 30 wins in a brilliant campaign.
City finished on 78, 15 points further back.
That was just 2 points ahead of us that year.

All they did was sort out their defence and keeper.
We have done that too.

I dont think its anywhere near as simple as 25 points is too much to make up.
Leicester won the league in 15/16 ffs.

Our team is mustard. Its our year.

Nah, I dont think either of them will be in the mix at the end of the season.
Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal will fight it out for 4th.
Why?
Chelsea have a cracking squad, and Spurs have a great defence and the most consistent striker in the league.

Id be surprised if they werent there or there about.

I also think that with last seasons three promoted teams staying up the league will be even weaker at the middle/bottom and that Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, City, United will batter almost everyone and that the places will be decided in matches between.

Every year is different, so the 25 points difference is meaningless.

All it takes is one or two poor results for a team to lose confidence - and the whole air of invincibility will come crashing down.

We have as strong a squad as in years. Must believe that we can challenge for the league.

Do need another attacker though - as good as our attack is, it's too one dimensional. Relies on playing on the counter, or for our press to be effective. Tends to get nullified by teams who park the bus.

We had 12 draws last season. That's the main statistic we need to change next year. Can even afford to lose a couple of extra games, if we manage to turn those draws into victories.

Need more unpredictability in our attack - Shaqiri should help. He's got a wicked left foot, and will offer goals from long range, which would be a nice variety to add to our attack.

But we need more - someone with skill on the ball, and the ability to unlock a defence based on that. Fekir did seem ideal.

Also hope that Keita has genuine playmaking ability from the centre of the park. From limited viewing, it seems he's a very talented passer. That'll also really help our attack.

Chelsea; new manager. Will lose Courtois and most likely Hazard. Rumours about Willian as well. Will be a season of rebuilding is my guess, will need new players to deliver from the start. Jorginho, possibly Higuain? Dont have the biggest squad and will play Thursday - Sunday.

Spurs: Great first team, but not the biggest squad nor depth. New stadium and maybe not that much transfer funds to improve the squad further. Loads of players will miss the start of the season. Dependent on Kane. How will it effect them when playing at a new stadium? They got less points at Wembley then at WHL.
Alderweireld will leave (not that he played much anyway), Dembele rumored to be off. Will Eriksen stay one more year?
Think the rest of the transfer window will show if they can be title challengers. If they get a couple of players in, then maybe they'll be in the mix. But right now I can see them challenging for 4th.

Ha ha. Fair enough. None of that's bollox it's just facts.

Obviously I hope you are proved right. We've waited long enough. Just very unrealistic in my view to expect a challenge never mind think it's definitely happening.

City will have to fall a long way and Pep's team rarely do that in the league.

Fernandinho was superb last year and you forgot KDB and Ageuro.

So two teams got at them and unsettled them.

Teams will continue to be rolled by them. They blew 90% of the league away last season and didn't just win it they obliterated the competition in a way nobody else has for a very long time.

City will win it again this year. Hopefully we will be closer and finish second but that's about it.

Our best hope is a cup and a good run in Europe

If the season started in November they still would have walked it. Everyone has lost their minds.

City have actually broken the league. Take them out of it and it'd be a great season with 4 teams in the hunt.

As it is they'll win it again comfortably.

Like we win the champions league yeah pat?
*rolls eyes*
Youre done punditing.
Go and back a cake or something.

The last however many years have taught me not to expect anything from Liverpool.

The optimism is largely reliant on a couple of our new signings being as good as we need / want them to be and the front line staying fit.

Lot of 'ifs'.

It'd be nice to progress towards the final stages of the CL just to show everyone (including our own players) that last season wasn't a fluke and mount a meaningful challenge in the league without finishing in a scrap for fourth. In an ideal world we'd win something as well, of course.
